Carole King, songwriters and friends Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, music critic Anthony DeCurtis and others describe the music business and work of songwriters in the 1950s and 1960s. As a 16-year-old living in Queens, King would bring her music to two publishers in Manhattan and get paid $25 for a composition that would be given to a recording artist. She soon paired professionally and in marriage with Gerry Goffin. Many of her hit songs were written for Aldon Records, with office in the famous Brill Building.

Carole King is one of the most successful female songwriters in the US, she wrote or co-wrote 118 pop hits appearing on the Billboard Hot 100 over the latter half of the 20th centuryr. King scored her breakthrough with the album Tapestry, which topped the U.S. album chart for 15 weeks in 1971 and remained on the charts for more than six years. King has made 25 solo albums, the most successful being Tapestry, which held the record for most weeks at No. 1 by a female artist for more than 20 years. Her record sales were estimated at more than 75 million copies worldwide.] She has won four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She has been inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a performer and songwriter. She is the recipient of the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the first woman to be so honored. She is also a 2015 Kennedy Center Honoree.
I remember seeing Grace Of My Heart and what her "Character" went through was so sad. Her Friend was on The UK Soap Opera Emmerdale.

She shwoed that Women can be successful Songwriters. Her and Ellie Greenwich (RIP) kicked the door open for Pam Sawyer (Love Hangover), Linda Creed who Co Wrote with Thom Bell Hits for The Stylistics and of course Diane Warren.

I hope she gets royalties from those huge hits she wrote. It would suck to only get 25 dollars for Locomotion.
She wrote in her memoir that Kirshner got the lion's share of royalties and even for songs she wrote way after she left Aldon music. It was in her contract.

@@loganwendt778 Yeah, she never produced a record as far as I know as Brian did. Not to take away from her accomplishments, it's just that her talents lie elsewhere.

@Day Plus, as Lou Adler pointed out, King arranged and directed the recording of her albums. Adler handled the business part of the the albums. King also arranged many of the early recordings of her songs, but she let her then husband Goffin take credit for producing her records. Another point is that the drummer Russ Kunkel said King deserved some part of James Taylor's success for helping him out during those early years and adding her signature piano work to his early albums.

She was an incredible song writer; however, I still contend that she could NOT sing.
