A fine and comprehensive review. I ordered the RF over the soft top primarily because living in the UK, most of the year is crap weather and rain is a constant feature. Also, the lack of off road parking for me right now means I'd not sleep well knowing my purchase was out there defenceless. Where I live, theres plenty of odd folk and some downright crazies knocking about. These real world considerations will always kick the youthful childlike aspirations in my ageing head into touch. It's a pain but such considerations are the bane of middle aged motor enthusiasts. Therefore, I'm happy with my choice and grateful cars paying respects to the past are still being wanted.
Remove that plastic wind deflector and the buffeting is reduced a lot. Worked wonders on my RF and feels more like the soft top allowing more air to flow. Plus the visibility is better with it off.
Everyone keeps forgetting that passenger seat and footwell is also a usable storage space. I keep all of my daily luggage there like the water bottle, Messenger bag for laptop and other stuff. Since the trunk in my car contains mostly audio system, I rarely use it, I just put whatever groceries or other shopping stuff on the passenger side.
That's great if you're alone all the time. It's not so useful when there are 2 people. Of course, if it is just you, & you need to carry something larger, the passenger seat is often the only real option.
Mr. Mazda Fair enough but one or two of those would close the sale for many. All I want is a door pocket for my drink and some napkins. We already gave up a bunch of little things in buying this. Ps I fucking love this car.
Way too much of a compromise in my opinion. No telescoping wheel are unforgivable. Then consider the price and I choose BRZ all day. The Miata is just too impractical for a daily and too expensive for a weekend toy. Fantastic review

hello, i want to know which part you mean? the transparent plastic behind the head rest? 4:49 ?
Yes, the plastic piece. It pops out, and while it allows more air to come in on the back of your next it seems to do wonders to reduce buffeting.

A very informative and balanced review
Good questions and good answers . The ideal 2 seater ! Why pay more for a Z4 or SLC 200 for half the pleasure ?
is it me or does he make this car look gigantic
You forgot to have the essential debate - that soft white, the machine grey or the red? C'mon guy!
I bought this white mx5 rf i jus love it traded in my other mx5 too which i loved but this car is even more fab
That machine grey is nice. Was looking at it myself
Room, trunk space and cup holders? Hmm ..not what I would normally look for in a car of this type.

In our Why Buy series, we evaluate those on every car we review - whether it's a minivan or a two-seat roadster.
Still no CarPlay or AA
It's available now as a retrofit.

This debate has been killing me for a few weeks. The 86/BRZ is definitely more practical, but convertible!
