    I love this plane. Wish i could afford one. I would quickly accumulate many hours in this type. As far as safety is concern, i believe this plane to be one of the safer ones out there. Its a shame of the bad press its getting. IMO just because you can afford to buy something it doesnt mean you have the restraint not to abuse the aircraft. The same with Tesla. You have a car that is as fast as any gas car out there and have semi autonomous features and still they get crashed often. Its not the fault of the technology but the fault of the operator. Just saying.

    • @codmott286
      @codmott286 5 років тому +2

      We're not placing fault on the technology but rather the manufacturer recommending advanced flying techniques to amateurs.

      @@codmott286 Van L and you both make sense. I know they want to sell planes but they have to project a less carefree attitude. It seems like the safest plane but unfortunately some ppl take too many risks.

    Roy Halladay must of learned to fly the A5 from Jon Karkow as it appears they both just turned off or ignored the AA safety system.

    Can a person pay for a ride with you? I would love to go flying in your plane! I’ve had my eye on the Icon A5 for a long time, but definitely hard to locate one. What a wonderful machine.

    Enjoy your videos very much. You have obvious pilot experience. How long does it take to learn the pilot jargon, that so easily flows from you when taking off and landing in particular, conversing with, and understanding the tower?

      Thanks NFL. It doesn't take long to learn proper ATC communications. There are good educational sources and just listening to live ATC will help too. When first learning though, the "mic fright" is real. :-)

      Thank you so much for your quick response! Your GoPro set up, and editing is fantastic. Just curious, have you reviewed the Icon A5? I bet there are many that would appreciate your thoughts based on your experience with more sophisticated aircraft. Also, is this product going to make it to market in decent numbers? To me the concept is amazing, but they may have priced themselves strictly for the very wealthy. I have decades of marketing experience, and I think they should've built the lower priced models first, instead of the "Founders Edition" at a whopping $400K!

    • @love2aviate262
      @love2aviate262  5 років тому +1

      The Icon in the video is one of the 21 original pre-production aircraft intended as sales/trainers. Official production began this year and the first 100 are "Founders Edition" aircraft with all the options included. They've produced about 50 so far I believe. I bought one and have a delivery scheduled for November. I suppose it's like most things; they could have sold more at a lower price point, but it would have had a lower build quality. This is an amazing aircraft, outstanding design, and built with incredible attention to detail. There's nothing like it. So I'm sure there is a market for it at this price, but likely a narrower market than it would be at a lower price point. That said, there are already lower-priced light sport amphibs available to supply that market.

      Yeah Bill. Good comment. I've got a new Icon being delivered next July, and I'll make some more videos that will be devoted to demonstration and communications - sans music. Thanks for the input.

      I believe in the Icon A5, despite the bad press. There is nothing wrong with the plane. The problem is with Icon's marketing showing the acrobatics and low level flying. The common denominator in the A5 accidents has been pilot error. Enjoy you new Icon. It is my top pic in this category of personal aircraft.

    • @love2aviate262
      @love2aviate262  6 років тому +1

      Fully agree Bill. And I've frequently echoed your exact position. Low level maneuvering is no game. It reduces the margin of error and requires an entirely different level of skill set and mindset than typical flying. And I can personally attest to the fact that this is one amazing aircraft. Extremely well designed and near perfect for its mission. There's nothing like it.

    Be careful in that thing, dude. It looks real awesome but, I bet Roy Halladay's wife wished she never heard of an ICON A5.

      You mean Roy?
      He went down in the Gulf. I don't think he knew that it was pretty shallow were he was flying..did you see the videos of him flying then diving and skimming the water pretty close to the water?
      They said he had 700 hours of flying, is that considered OK, or not enough?
      My dad thinks he was practising maneuvers, or do you think he was "hot dogging"?
      They said it will take up to 2 years for the FAA to release a report about it. Seems like a long time for a small plane. I could see it taking that long if it was a huge jet!
      I'm not gonna say I know a lot about flying, but with 2 fatalities in a short period of time doesn't look good for future sales.

      I know. I am still just sick about it. I was born in Philly and grew up a Phillies/Eagles fan (Eagles Superbowl Champs!!!) When they traded for Roy, I think everyone in Philly became a Halladay fan. I would figure out the pitching rotation and me and my friend went to either him or Cliff Lee pitching. I was so devastated when he died. He was gonna work with the Phillies pitchers this year and when he died, it left a hole in all of our hearts.
      When the tox report came up with all that, I couldn't believe it! He was the LAST person I would ever think would be taking all that! It was such a shock. Maybe his retiring so early took a greater mental toll on him than everyone thought. He seemed so happy to go and coach his kid's games, but when you are a competitor that long, you can't just shut that off. I wonder if his wife knew he was taking those meds? It's funny, the news about his cause of death and the toxh report came out for a day or so, then died, no real follow up about it, no explainations as to WHY he took them. I guess the powers that be didn't want him to go down like that. We thought of him as a hero, but forgot he still was just a man.
