The true man of the household. The farmer man. I must say i could watch this on weekly basis. I always wonder who's behind the camera. Would love to see that person tho😊
Hey Dane the garden looks great! I’ve heard that breaking up the roots is good practice when transplanting plants from a pot. Not an expert in gardening by any means but thought I would pass that tip along!
it's still beyond me how this series came to life "i mean i make a lot of hearthstone content but you know what would be a nice addition? FUCKEEN PLENTS" and it's an instant hit can't wait for the next update
I'm very careful about the cats around small birds and hedgehogs. Any signs of hedgehogs in the garden they will spend time outside in the front. The cats go outside with me every morning / evening supervised because of that.
Lovin the garden videos, makes it a little more personal. PS. We use compost for fertilizer to our soil, highly recommended! Too much though and you kill the roots.
not sure about the types of pollinators in your area but another easy and effective bee hotel idea is to fill the inside of a brick or cinderblock with mud or clay and poke various sized holes with a stick before drying. very cheap & some native pollinators prefer this.
I love your enthusiasm so I'm going to look like a cow and I'm sorry. I run a rescue. The log roll is dangerous to hedgehogs and we think the third biggest cause of broken legs in hedgehogs after rat traps and predator attacks, their leg slides between the slats as they walk over it and it becomes stuck. You have pebbles everywhere and plants in pots so they can't access any insects, you do however have a real lawn which is great. That hedgehog food is bad quality (I know its marketed as hog food but they are just trying to make money) cat biscuits with low grain content are cheaper and better. If you turn your hog house to the side they are more likely to use it. They are an edge animal so if they pootle along your fencing they would find the home 'by accident'. If the entance is in the lee of a bush so the doorway seems covered a bit they are more likely to use it. I've put some advice about pets under a different comment so hope that helps. I love your hedgehog highway gap in the fence and the bowl for water which is essential. You've used a pic of an African Pygmy Hedgehog the pet type instead of our beautiful wildies which is a shame because, in my biased opinion, our wildies are way better 😉. Thank you for caring about our hedgehogs please consider changing the lawn edging to be safer and having an insect dig spot where there are no pebbles and weed block sheeting. The bug hotels are great and the lavender top notch. Hedgehog populations are in decline in the UK. If everyone supports their local rescues that do the life saving work and have their contact detsils on hand for emergencies that would make a huge difference. The rescues are the best people to support to make a difference to hedgehogs. 🦔🦔🦔🦔🥰🥰🥰🥰
I'm getting rid of the wooden edging soon and was planning to getting railway sleepers to enclose the pebbles (is that a good idea?). The back of the garden is bushes with wood chippings and grass that's where I get the most insects so I've put their housing and food there.
@@DaneYT yeah unless there's no gaps between. It looked to be the flexible type where the slats move. Most people use it as lawn edging or to hold pebbles back. If the slats don't move it's all good. Hedgehogs are cute but stupid (they'd make great Love Island contestants) they don't think about sliding their leg in the opposite direction of how it got in the gap they just keep pulling forward. Like they don't move away from the sound of a strimmer they just curl up. They don't understand that the strimmer isn't scared of prickles. I wish I could give them all a good talking to at birth. Speaking of which, we've had a birth here this morning, seems to have gone well but we try not to disturb them too much so not sure how many hoglets 🥰
Phew 😅 “Domestic cats usually ignore hedgehogs and do not pose a big threat. Dogs can attack hedgehogs, and young hogs can be killed, however the spines are usually enough to teach any dog a lesson to not try that again. Cats are curious but not a big threat. They will usually leave hedgehogs alone after investigating them.”
Cats tend to only be a threat to hoglets. Dogs can attack adults. The type of dog and the vigilance of the human that comes with it depends on the damage that is done. Dogs that shake their prey cause huge damage. Dogs with powerful jaws and strong hunting instinct tend to cause crush injuries. The hedgehog tends to need a rescue centre visit at least for a check. Severe injuries will need euthanasia by a veterinarian. It is recommended that cats are not allowed out at night which is when hoglets have to be left alone so mum can hunt and dogs are taken out on a leash first so there's a hedgehog check before they are allowed unsupervised access to the garden. 🥰🦔
If you actually want bees to settle in there, dont bother with the small pre-built ones mate. You can slap a waist high one together yourself, those do a much better job at it from my experience.
man really topdecked a beehive INTO a bee hotel, absurd luck
Imagine watching this video, only getting it recommended because you watch a lot of gardening content, to see these comments 🤣
Dane retiring after a decade making hearthstone content to be a full time gardener
Feelsgoodman
This is just a gardening channel that also uploads gameplay of a card game and I will not be convinced otherwise
First time i notice he has 2 cats lol
Hearthstone content: Chaos and destruction
Gearden content: Peace and tranquility
Just wanted to say that the garden content is such good vibes for me to go and experience at this time of year. Truly the people’s champ.

Best danehearth content! I enjoy the real life videos

Only do that if the rootball is constricted. If the plant is young and not rootbound, not a good idea to break it up.
Hedgehogs are the best and they keep your garden clean of all sorts of pests
I'm happy he's happy

I'm concerned about the cats eating the headhogs

@@DaneYT you are an absolute chad
Cats will not eat hedgehogs. They give them a wide berth. Hedgehogs and cats are OK together. Badgers are their main predator!
Still not 100K with this quality content? Outrageous!

Zoning laws. Hedgehog towns are all about zoning laws.
If you want more bees/pollinators, don't mow your lawn for a month ;) lovely garden
I'll give that a try
Love it man , I want to do a similar thing with my garden

Thanks Steph, I'll get rid of that hedgehog food and have a good read of all the advice you've given and have a re-arrange of the garden.
@@DaneYT 🤣 the hedgehogs will love you. The birds will love that hog food. Go for it. Wildlife is fabulous

Is the log roll the wooden boarders I have? If so I'll rip that out of the ground ASAP so they don't get injured.

Are the cats cool with the hedgehogs?
Question, do I have to be a hedgehog to visit the village?
Didn’t realise there were gardens in Liverpool….

Please do a garDANEing channel mate. I need that in my life
so are cats kind to hedge hogs? I dont see them moving in if the property is "Protected"
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

If a hedgehog does take up residence, the cat's aren't allowed in the back?
I'd sit with the cats in the front supervised if that happens, although Hedgehogs are nocturnal I'm not sure they would cross paths.
Where are hedgehogs?
Get on beechgrove garden lad
