- Jean-Nicolas Gérard was born in Brazzaville (Congo) in 1954 and returned to France in 1961. He started studying ceramics in 1978 and was Jean Biagini’s student at École des Beaux-Arts in Aix-en-Provence. He also trained with Claire Bogino. Often labelled the potters’ potter Gerard’s work has a spontaneity that so many strive for.
Gérard’s work has now gained international acclaim and he has exhibited all over the world, including America, Australia, China and Japan. He is one of those rare potters who brings genuine life and gusto to contemporary slipware, investing the tradition of terre vernissée with a fresh and expressive energy unlike any other. goldmarkart.com
So beautiful. I would love a tour of his whole house and garden to see all the beautiful elements
Bonjour Jean Nicolas,
Gerard's philosophy on art and life is very comforting. And his ceramics so expressive.
He is truly my mentor - his calm sure sense that simple and spontaneous will give the best results, is my mantra. But, how does he fire his pots - gas or wood, or? it remains a mystery to me?!
That was sheer delight. Such lovely, natural yet expressive work and a delightful individual. Thank you Goldmark, yet again!
I love his platters.
Jean Nicolas, you have become my inspiration. So much Freedom and Joy in your work. Thank you
We agree!

Please, how to prepare this clay, what materials are added to the natural clay when kneaded to become soft?
Water is added.
