This is fundamentally unsettling, it's like the composer discovered some ancient musical formula designed to illicit intense primal tension, anxiety, and fear.
this is a recording of cthulhu sleeping.
When you get a chance, google "Devil's Tritone," also known as the "Devil's Interval" or "diabolus in musica." This was once banned in Christian music as it was suggested that the devil could control people this way.
@@Suprasylph Very interesting, thank you for sharing.
@@Suprasylph They didn't really avoid it because they thought it was evil, they did it because it's dissonant as hell + generally sounds like shit when you're following voice leading rules of the Baroque Era. "Devil's tritone" comes from an aphorism used by old musicians to remind themselves that the tritone sounds real shitty--"mi contra fa est diabolus in musica" (basically, "the tritone is the devil in music"--but they didn't literally believe that).
The composer did a good job for sure but he didn't reinvent the wheel.
human ears and auditory processing system instinctively associate certain frequencies and rhythms to certain feelings and impressions. The "tritone" (basic part of the main motive heard at 3:14) is an interval that has a very complex ratio (square root of 2 in the equal temperament system, was even more fucked up back when people used multiple temperaments). Humans perceive intervals with simpler frequency ratios (such as the octava) as "consonant" ones, which sound more pleasant and calm in comparison. Musicians work with those contrasts in sounds frequencies, just like painters play with colors and textures.
To me the scariest part of this music are the slow and repetitive knocks surrounded by noise (around 2:00), this kind of mechanical effect is used in other horror soundtracks

It's hard to find good horror movies, so when I told my girlfriend about this one I just walked in the room and started playing this song for her. She actually made me turn it off because even completely out of context the music still manage to make her so uncomfortable she couldn't listen. 11/10 this composer deserves more recognition.
it's pure genius this piece
ShankStabington she is a genius composer indeed.
Sure...
:D
I dont even like the movie but the soundtrack is insanely terrifying
music in horror movies make for 80% of the scare. Change my mind.
It's MY sleepover and _I_ get to pick the music!
r/distressingmemes.
Here thanks to asmongold->datamosh->
Years later, and I'm still seriously addicted to this soundtrack. This track in particular is disturbing and yet there's an undeniable sexiness to it.
I think that it’s just embedded with Scarlette Jo, she looked so dark and sexy in this scene, like a sexy anaconda (jungle book heh)
It has this vintage feel of 60’s - 70’s type horror, exactly like A Space Odyssey type vibe.
Try the alien annihilation soundtrack, I think it actually might be scarier if not giving off the same tone
Mica Levi's been doing great stuff for 15 years now, doesn't show any sign of stopping
The high notes actually sound like a weird scratched singing of a female creature.
@@leonardomedeiros355 This soundtrack reminds me of the violin in the film "Full Metal Jacket." However it's a better soundtrack in my opinion, a more updated version of it.
This is the soundtrack to me driving around town at night doing my Lyft / Uber runs.
O-o

@@isaiahphillip4112 Hahahaha, omfg.

Apparently the upcoming Alien movie needs a composer. Ridley Scott should get Mica Levi on the phone.
Oh my God, yes.

Lexically Ambiguityness but the soundtrack was amazing
this soundtrack had me at the edge of my seat the entire movie.
what key is this in? i want this played at my wedding reception
What the hell?

Kkkkkk
This OST has always stuck with me, Its just pure unsettling eeriness perfected.
crazy I just looked this up and Jax is here! Actually wild!
It’s obviously unsettling but I like...enjoy it? Is that weird? Like the sort of thrill you get standing on the edge of a building

This feels like a lost Silent Hill track. So unsettling.
How does someone wind up in the frame of mind to compose something like this? I would piss my pants every time I'd try to work on it.
BTW 3:15
Holy shit.
Someone got a message on steam.
KNIGHTWHOSAIDNEE2542 u just gotta detatch urself from the art bro lol nice username btw!
What about 3:52 :o.
I've made spooky ambient tracks like this before and it's not so bad. If you make it, it's almost like you have control over those feelings of fear (which is why making music can be such a good coping mechanism for anxiety and anger and sadness and such -- kind of makes you the master of those feelings, at least for a bit). ... As long as you don't work on them at night.
great ASMR song to fall asleep to.
Agreed

3:15 -- Good luck sleeping tonight.
This music would be perfect for the Lovecraft mythos.
Jeremy Brown My buddies and I are playing Call of Cthulhu and this track is actually on our ambient playlist! It fits so well!
@@toxicinfinity6504 No shit, I'm doing the same! This and the Annihilation soundtrack work extremely well for cosmic horror settings.
And Bloodborne, of course. ;)
Try Prey as well
Note to self: Do not play this when you're all alone in the dark, even your bed won't feel safe
I like to play this all the time when I'm alone, and I love it.
Why did u fucking have to say that!? now I have my phone flashlight on!! I was feeling fine!
Veronica Agnelli haha XD
Its real music not those terrible with colors
Wanna bet
The best soundtrack I've heard for the last couple of years
Like "Love" from "Under The Skin" too
Lol stranger things. I think annihilation’s soundtrack compares pretty well
I mean creepy and terrifying and beautiful:
Annihilation
Sinister
Mr Brooks
Under the skin
Hereditary
The servant ( apple tv show )
Silent hill
Mindhunter S2 ( silk drape )
Platform ( netflix movie)
C'mon people, don't forget Jóhan Johanson's splendid Mandy.
I think it is truly incredible how the music can make feel uncomfortable.
I watched this movie only once and it made such a strong impression on me, that I've intentionally been avoiding watching it again (and I know I will) because I want to enjoy the feeling of wanting to watch it again. Because I know how great, strange and chilling it will be again
Everytime I get the chance to see it - rarely shows on 'cable' - I do it, just like Mandy, Blade Runner I, Shining, I'm addicted to these perfect horror/syfi movies.
The novel's even weirder. You should check it out if you enjoyed this flick.
If a Cthulhu movie was getting made, this is what the soundtrack should sound like.
I think it should be more god like but keep the creepyness
5:25 Dramatically unsettling. Almost terrorizing than terrifying
this song is just perfect for the "hunting" scenes...it sounds so alien ...you can hear the anxiety in the "breathing" ....100% good
this is the scariest piece of music ive ever heard
Out of all the nasty soundtracks, this is actually makes me uncomfortable. I could listen to Lavender Town, and The Mantis Hymn all day, but this track is absolutely terrifying.
i feel you, this is scary as shit
Check out the track 'Meltdown' from Clint Mansell's Requiem For A Dream score. That gives me the heebie jeebies.
Also "BBQ" song from Sinister
that's the idea.
Want another one? Look up the song "Red Sex" by Vessel. Got under my skin for months.
This music is genius. I usually dont find dark ambient music to be scary but this is an exception.
Yeah this score nails 'creepy as f*ck' atmophere.
This is the first time where music has genuinely made me afraid. I live with my dad, but it's night-time and he went out with a friend for a few hours.
Listening to this alone and in obscurity. It feels primal, as if you weren't supposed to see something so far removed from any species we've known on our planet.
And it knows you're afraid.
masterpiece - film and score.
Holy shit, very ominous... got chills. Much like the ones I get when listening to "the alien" from annihilation
it sacred the shit out if me.... till now I never once completed this song...
After 3:15 this stuff escalates to a new height of eerieness
5:40 horrifying
Oh man fuvkin hell
Stanley Kubrick would of loved this movie...
I know the grammar Nazis lost grammar world war 2 and everything and I know your comment is 7 months old. I also know you don't care but it's "Would have" not would of"
Before his death Kubrick claimed David Lynch's Eraserhead was his favourite movie, gotta say its quite a shame he went at that point in time, just when the real weird shit was starting to get made...
totalement d'accord !
The most fitting soundtrack ever. Fundamentally alien and disturbing.
I think what makes this so unnerving is that it’s a glitchy version of the type of music that would play in older movies when a seductive character would appear on screen.
Agree, it has the alluring vibe but drowned in these unnerving ambience, just like the character itself
Es la canción que le pondrías a una araña acercándose lentamente a su presa que está ya en su telaraña.
i'm listening to this at 3am and it's totally fine :)

Holy shit watch out for this guy everyone
this is absolute torture lmfao. I'm in daylight in a room full of people and I'm fucking scared. Well done Mica person
I just heard a voice in the track. It almost sounds like alien nonsense. This is undeniably the most unsettling OST I've heard for anything. This is also the only movie that's ever actually made me feel fear before.

Hereditary ruined me. I've been watching horror for nearly 13 years and nothing terrified me more than that film.
this is what plays when the dubstep monster is searching your house for you
Goosebumps. I don't find this song scary but rather mysterious and makes me thing of a beast searching for its prey, like in the movie.
I always listen to this as I sharpen my Cutco knives
:D:D:D
Lmao
One of the best horror themes of the early 21st century.
When you on a date with Bill Cosby.
This is my paralysis monster's ringtone
This is the anthem of existential, cosmic-horror dread.
This is the most unsettling shit I've ever listened to yet I can't stop listening to it. Scared the crap out of meself.
Most underrated movie I know, specially the score ❤️
Perfect score for a very curious film.
Every time I listen to this theme, I tear up a little from the feeling of intense dread. It's like they captured humanity's deepest most primordial fear and turned it into music.
I feel like ive wandered into some ancient temple buried in the desert and i hear some ancient evil breathing within and echoing through the halls as i pull myself deeper in
If you watched this movie you would never think for a second that Scarlett would be in it 😂😂😂💯
This song is my lullaby🙂
As if this film's visuals weren't creepy enough, they had to add an extra layer of nauseating brilliance with the score. When I randomly think of this movie, I think of the music.
I walk around at night listening to this. Makes me feel like a bad individual
I thought I'm the only one who does this. Listening to this while looking around makes me feel weird emotions.
When ur father started using ur phone
BAT ASS Lmao.
Both the soundtrack and the movie was truly unsettling 😱
I listened to this with headphones, while walking naked through the forest at night. A life changing experience.
Honestly feel like this is some sort of music from another part of the galaxy, im not joking. Never been so unsettled by a track in my whole life, this song is creepier than some horror movies and its just a song.
This shit makes you feel fucking weird like god damn bruh it’s 2am I’m playing this on my speaker smoking and it’s just something else dog doesn’t feel like I’m on earth
You are entering primal fear, helplessness. It's a space that's within all of us. Just imagine feeling so helpless while something cuts of your limbs and your crawling for safety that's only inches away, screaming your guts out but your vocal cords are busted. No way to control, total helplessness, and you can't do anything about it, hide behind a thought, think yourself to unicorns and rainbows, repeat a mantra. Just surrender to the fear and you'll see infinite bliss, infinite love, infite expansion. Or so called non duality, or unity.
Primal fear at the end of the day is just sensation and thought, not real but that can't be use to ease the experience of hell, or infinite contraction
My favorite film, and Mica Levi's score has a lot to do with that. It's perfect.
Outstanding soundtrack.
This music disturbs me so much, I'm serious when I say it. This is the only music that unsettles me.
HYPE ZODIAAQ XO You should listen to Ancestors by Björk and think again.
HYPE ZODIAAQ XO Bob Ostertag - The Surgeon General is pretty unsettling imo
Quien viene por Karchez y su roleazo con Greco??
Carola y Kar son unos dioses.
This reminds me of the Aztec Death Whistle, the same feeling of uneasiness and apprehension.
I tried to listen this soundtrack without thinking about the movie, found out that the music on its own is errie.
Fits under the skin perfectly 🎶
"Look at the book names"

A very similar motif was used in the last episode, first season of Mr Robot when Elliot met Mrs Welleck on her doorstep. Judge for yourselves ua-cam.com/video/5emIozWzPb4/v-deo.html
Its odd that I hear the footsteps of something absolutely massive....it adds to the feeling of anticipation and dread

Fantastic film score. Haunting , yet sublime.
okay yes it’s a ‘scary’ song but tell me why I just smiled and got SO excited when the strings kicked in with that sting halfway thru!!
I remember finding this song at night and got so freakin creeped out, its just one of those songs. Some songs try and sound creepy and it somewhat works.. but this one omg it’s so unsettling.
Echoing other folks, this reminds me of Akira Yamaoka's music from Silent Hill, makes me feel the dread of Ep. 8 of Twin Peaks S3.
Bro after 6 mins must be what you hear on your way to hell
I know what I'm playing from our house this Halloween.
I'm still trying to imagine what someone dancing to this would look like
One day in college, i was just sitting on a chair, wearing earphones, listening to music. I think the volume was loud enough to hear for anyone sitting nearly. There were around 4 or 5 girls who were sitting on the same chair as me and the one in the close front. They were talking very loudly, bothering me. so when this song came randomly, after like 3 minutes, they all just stood up from there and went to sit on some chairs away from me. I think its because they could hear the sound of the creepiness this song has and now I'm gonna play this whenever I don't want people to sit or stand near me.
How do 4 or 5 girls pile onto the same chair as you?
why the fuck did this come on randomly? do you just like nonchalantly listen to shit like this
Everyone watch out for this guy
Im scared.
When you come to the wrong neighborhood
I've never been freaked out by a piece of music. Even though I have problems with the film, any time this music kicked in it really made me uncomfortable. EASILY the best aspect of the movie
so creepy, i love it.
The soundtrack made this movie
For anyone who enjoyed this film and the beautifully haunting soundtrack. Watch the movie ‘It Follows’
True. It's the best horror movie i've ever seen
Another amazing horror movie with another amazing soundtrack
It follows sucks
I only got here because I just watched Monos and the score blew me away, had to find out who was behind it and lo and behold it was the great Mica. And in this film it's hard to work out what was scarier, Scarlett's performance or Mica's music.
Holy Shit this is Profoundly disturbing and Chillingly evocative all at once.
This film is amazing, and the soundtrack perfect.
