    I was a Mercury man up to the tower of power, I had a 115 on my 17' closed bow run about and it blew away similar boats with the v-4 evinrude or Johnson 135-140hp, both cross flow or Looper. When Mercs rep changed (to me) and archatecture followed they lost their dominance in the outboard world, in my opinion. The next boat I had was also a 17' but a cobia with a 88hp evinrude and I got it cheap as the guy needed money, $2000. It was rigged crappy, mounted much too low, the top hole which meant the cav plate was a good 6-12" under the water. Prop was banged up and the motor was running weak. I had it rebuilt as a 115, new block, pistons, OMC SST prop, and the proper mounting height. That thing was quick, ran 48+ mph at 5900rpm and other than normal maintenance it never gave me a problem, large or small. The sound was totally different from the Merc 115 I had, a lower, more pleasant sound at speed, but I preferred the wailing racing motor sound of the Merc, while everyone else thought the evinrude sound, even wide open, was quieter and easier to deal with on speed runs. I've been in the evinrude camp since, and the e-tech's are outstanding motors, the 150hp HO is really a 165hp, there's a 10% difference up or down on stated hp, this motor and the new 150 and 150HO e-techs are ahead of the pack and the perfect motor for the 16'-18' outboard runabout or center console class and will run easily in the mid 50's, which in boats that small is hauling butt. Being a 2 stroke is a bonus, no belt or valve adjustments needed, rather than 100hr service intervals the e-tech is 5 years or 500hrs. They're better motors in every way to any 4 stroke. To anyone who may think I'm in Evinrude sales... I'm not, just a happy and satisfied of their ease of ownership and reliability, not to mention their 2 stroke acceleration over ANY 4 stroke power out there.

    Buddy of mine has an evinrude on his 1995 20 ft pontoon! The engine is nicer than the boat itself lol

    Nice clip. Nice engine.
    Seams that the prop is ventilating when at 5000 rpm, and 55% trim. Better not to pass the 40% point with the trim...

      you own a 135 ho? I want to purchase one can I ask you some questions?
      how much weights your boat fully and empty loaded?
      which propeller have you got?
      how fast have you gone?
      average fuel consumtion?
      average cruising speed?
      if you could answer those I would thank you so much!

    Thank you very much for your help.. I have another engine. evinrude etech 30 hp coils are not receiving energy. We tried 3 ECUs. It is a steering system, but it is not connected to the steering wheel at the moment, we are just connecting the cables to the battery and trying it. They say it will not work without connecting the ignition key. Hello, good day my friend..

    Hi Ricky. The stutter in the video was the editing but I know exactly the stutter you are talking about. Ours only did it intermittently, it had a moments hesitation then went for it. I just put it down to something in the electronic throttle mechanism. I dont think it is a mechanical problem (note im not an outboard mechanic but the motor ran fine in every other way).

    Curious to hear your opinion on this.
    I have a new to me 2008 E-Tec 150 (not HO) with 115hrs on it.
    Its on an 18ft Ranger bass boat, pretty light. Ever since the day I bought it, when I go to get on plane the motor stutters/hiccups for about 2 seconds and then proceeds to come on plane like a bat out of hell. But I noticed in your video when you go to get on plane I heard a stutter. Was that the motor?
    Should I be worried about my issue? It hasn't gotten worse, its not too bad, the motor runs fantastic except for that 1-2 second stutter. Thank you in advance!

      +Ricky Taylor Check your plugs to make sure they're clean. Also check your fuel system (including filter) because these engines need very consistent fuel flow.

    Its an Evinrude Viper 19", apparently not as much bow lift as the Raker series.

    • @gonzaloviglino2305
      @gonzaloviglino2305 5 років тому

      so purchasing to a raker series will lift up the boat?

    Raker 19" with a jack plate would eliminate the bow lift.

    Hate to burst your bubble. There is no oil to change. This is a two stroke. No maintenance for something like 300 hours of use. Their could be a problem if the oil mixture fails. Most people seem pretty happy with them. I reviewed all the manufacturers. These are the lightest motors for the power class, and the fuel economy is almost as good as a four stroke. You can get 150, 175 or 200 HP for 418 lbs. Pretty impressive IMHO. A 150 HP Suzuki is 65 lbs heavier.

    • @NightSailor
      @NightSailor 10 років тому

      Those weights are not for the HO version which is larger displacement, heavier and the fuel economy is not as good as the HP version small block motors--a better choice, IMHO.

      NightSailor 100to 1 ratio scares me I put my engine on the tcw-3 setting I have a 08 300 etec. The only way to get a good use engine is through the evinrude dealer mine was a trade in with 329 hrs on a new power head full dress in 2010 love it Craig's list engines are junk and OfferUp no warranty no buy I learn the hard way by by 3000$ save a long time for my 300 and 10000$ seven yrs ago thanks David at markey marine researching this motor through evinrude it was in port saint Lucy 100 miles away made sure it was covered JT 🇺🇸🐟🎣🙏🏻🌴⛱🛥

      @@NightSailor 150 ho is the same displacement on the gen 1 motors, the 200 ho is when you get a bigger block, standard 150, 150 ho, 175 and 200 are all the same

      Gary Wilson all in how you treat it. I know a guy that’s on his second one cause of hitting the sand bar or something in it and took a chunk out of it but all the gears were perfectly fine and switched to another one. Then he fried 2 water pumps for doing what I see a lot of idiots do and that’s pull up to a beach then floor it to push the boat up more on the beach while sucking in all that sand. I have 9 years no problems!
