@@edharm8446 Turns out it was those e-tec fancy high pressure injectors. They have very small margins for error in pressure & temp. @@matthewthomassen6127 Hey Matthew, was talking with an Alumacraft/Evinrude dealer yesterday and for the first time I heard a dealer admit what was one of the main issues with early Etec's. This flaw has been corrected since and new routing implemented throughout the engines. Combine the mentioned issue with the injectors and yeah there were issues. Second the injectors are precision instruments, so the days of careless fuel handling, storage, fuel life, and water in the fuel system are critical to proper injector performance.

Robert Diehl Two strokes are history. 4 strokes are becoming lighter, faster, and have always been more reliable. EVINRUDE went out out of business once and if they don't build some new 4 stroke engines it will happen again.
+DYNO DON Two strokes beat four strokes hands down for performance. The Evinrude Etec and Merc Optimax are the best engines on the water, no 4 stroke can touch them!
That extra weight makes no difference on my boat, its like having a child with me. The evinrude e-tec takes less gasoline than a four stroke because it has less moving parts but the four stroke is steadier and will last many ours more than the two stroke ;)
Weight at the transom is very critical because it causes stern drag and affects the handling and ride of the whole boat. So for most people, having a lighter outboard is a major advantage. In terms of reliability, Evinrude really has their engines dialed in the last 6-7 years. So the longevity going forward will be increasing....and as you mentioned the Etecs have a lot less moving parts to fail. They don't even have a belt driven alternator or compressor like that in the Merc Optimax. In addition, the all new Etec G2 engines were designed from the ground up as a direct injection power head. Thus their reliability in the long run will likely be quite strong.
That's changed from "Why you should buy an Evinrude E-Tec" into "Run away as fast as possible". Parts support is drying up fast for the E-Tec motors and the remaining support will be to meet warranty obligations they have. Once the warranty period expires on the 2020 motors, BRP will sell off/stop parts support on all Evinrude areas that is not consistently profitable. Dealers for Evinrude the certified shops are trying to figure out when and how they want to stop servicing them.
