Kim - your confidence is so impressive. I remember a couple years ago, you struggling to make calls in the Baron on the radio. Now you sound like a PIC and taking command of the aircraft. For what it's worth, I'm so proud of you! RE: your traffic debrief, I agree with you - it's situational. To me it depends on how close the traffic is according to the ATC or ADS reporting. If it's in close proximity, you aviate if you have the room - clear yourself of immediate conflict, then get a sighting. Always err on the side of safety - that's way easier to explain and justify than taking risks!
We all went through these things in our training, but we never had cameras recording every decision, and mistake we made, to later be broadcast on UA-cam. We are all behind you!
Kim, your vulnerability in publicly sharing your challenges has been instrumental to helping me reach the successes in my own aviation journey. So many people don’t reveal the mental challenges that are real for many. The feelings, doubt and anxiety that I’ve experienced many times since wanting to be a pilot in my 20s have delayed me getting into GA aviation, but now at 38, finally the last 6 months I’ve been able to clock up 50 hours, push through the fears and are now genuinely excited to go flying twice a week. Thank you, don’t stop sharing, it’s powerful and enjoy light winds blue sky’s. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
This. This is exactly why we did what we did. It’s not about “fame” or another video to put out, it’s about showing the rawness of how training can truly make people feel, even though society has tried to act like it’s all unicorns and rainbows. Thank you for sharing, and I’m excited to hear you passed your check ride❤
This is amazing. In addition to all the other compliments your are so justifiably receiving, your willingness and ability to share your experience in such a truthful manner, just blows me away. What an example for would-be aviators, especially young women. 🇺🇸👍🇨🇦
Thank you, I really appreciate your kindness. It is hard to put yourself out there, but if you worry about what people say then you’ll never see the positive things either. ❤
Very well said about the process of learning to fly. I had those same feelings and at one point, almost quit. Thankfully my flight instructor gave me the space then encouragement to continue. It is very sad that more positive videos don't rise to the top over the disaster/crash views. It is human nature to be drawn to those things. To date one of my most popular videos is on the stall recovery I made, ironically on my first long solo cross country. The upside to that near miss was all the comments thanking me for putting that out so others could learn from it. So good on you Kim, you will have a long and wonderful flight career.
Kim Great job, I have done both, but I am a sailor for 55+ years, very similar in theory with the exception of one being vertical and one horizontal. Your planning, your thinking, your actions and your execution of all things are spot on. You should be extremely proud of yourself and your community. You are 100% correct that people need to stop living on sound bits. It is not real. Many, many groups, clubs, NGO's and others are still working hard to make this world a better place and support the ones that want to make it happen. It is NOT about one F up, in the news and dwelling on it, it is about learning about that issue and continuing on. (news clip, FAA report month later, much different). Understanding that; Yes so much love and support does happen in the world, and yes the negative is front page way to often. Point is: real support is happening everyday, not BS. I can't wait to see you back in the Baron LOL. Thanks for letting us into your life, many support you and learn form you! Always keep moving forward.
Your concerns pre flight tell me your not stupid enough to think this is easy, it's not. You are doing great staying ahead of the plane and talking to us at the same time, don't get cocky and your going to be great, I'm sure Chris is proud of you, hang in there, best wishes.
Well, everything we`ve been seeing on Kim`s flying achievements only confirm what we (we😁 - as I was speaking on other people`s name than mine), already knew about the capacity, tenacity and determination of this lady. Kudos for Kim. On the other hand Mr. BP, we also love (we again) to see videos from you and you both on that lovely Baron. Till next videos, keep my best regards with happy landings from Portugal.🥰
❤ Kim you're confidence is way up. Loved the smile on your face. I would fly anywhere with you. You'll be flying for many years and I hope you will take us along with you. SO PROUD OF YOU. ❤
Great job Kim, I would not be afraid to fly with you anywhere! You're confidence And your training skills have gone to the next level. You can only do one thing, Just be proud of your accomplishments!
Great job Kim. I was holding my breath for you on those landings but you did great! Congratulations! You ROCK girl! Living my dream to fly through you! Keep going!
Brings back memories of my cross country in 1968, flying a Cessna 150 from Liverpool in the UK. No GPS or autopilot in those days. Loved watching your ups and downs through your training. You're nearly there. Next is your instrument, then twin ratings. I know you can do it. You'll be flying jets before long. ❤
really great to see you feeling all the same emotions as I did and still do when I fly (low time PPL here) - inspiring honesty and you're reminding me of the excitement/exhiliration/disbelief that it's me doing it when I fly...thank you for sharing - you've inspired me to get back in the saddle after a long time out for family/kiddos etc reasons
Well Done and I love how you are promoting general aviation. Solo cross country was, for me, the moment I truly felt being a pilot in command and watching your trip...man the memories. That I could fly again...I miss being up there.
Great job Kim! Have very much enjoyed watching your growth as a pilot. One small suggestion look into upset recovery training to further your growth and safety.
totally get that "cotton mouth" feeling. I got it in training and in the hours after it- my subconscious brain was obviously feeling threatened, even though I wasn't feeling anxiety or surprise.
Yeah, look at you now, Kim!!! You have come so far and it has been a pleasure to watch the whole story of your journey. Be sure to save the best pie for yourself and bring back the stale mincemeat for BOB 😁.
Have been watching your confidence build in this series from the start. Thanks for sharing your experiences and keep up your great never quit attitude.
What a treat it has been to come along with with you on this ride to your pilot's licence. It is something I have wanted to do for years and may still do, but for now I am concentrating on paragliding. Love to see how you have progressed and really thankful for your honesty in the difficult times.
I am not a pilot but have been watching Kim and her progress. You have done an amazing job! Great work. You inspire me to keep pushing forward in all things in life!!!! I am sure Baron Pilot is so proud of you!!!!
Right on about the aviation community. I have been SO fortunate to meet great people in this space. I have had the pleasure of working with several absolutely awesome instructors at my home field and other vacation fields for checkouts. As to dry mouth, well I get the jitters a little before every solo trip. Still a low time PPL working on IR. Say "Hi" to Baron Pilot for me.
Good Question on traffic spotting. It is situational. Most of the time, I would leave the autopilot on, so I can concentrate on scanning for traffic. One exception is entering the traffic pattern. I want to be hand flying. Great to see your progress.
I agree that it is situational. If the other traffic is at the same altitude I’m very vigilant but leave the autopilot on as it is easy to over power it if I need to take quick evasive action, as it is one less thing to deal with when the autopilot is maintaining my course and altitude. It is easy to creep up or down, left or right, searching for traffic.
Kim & Kris, as I have watched your channel and the way you, Kim have taken to flying in 75W, it could be seen that you Learn fast and liked contributing to the flights. It also showed me , that you would be a GOOD pilot after getting all this IFR time with Kris and learning procedures. Kim, please don't take my " Center Line" comment as Negative or Insulting, that is just an observation of your Landings, that I think, when brought to light by we, your audience and followers, can help make you a Better pilot. Work on the SIGHT picture, about 3 feet to the Right. Love you Guys !
No offense taken! I’m super critical of myself and learned that while important to perfect, there’s more critical things to focus on. I hate that I do it but if you really look at all my landings I’m consistent in exactly where I land left of center, so in pilot terms, I’m exactly on point 🤣
Kim you are killing it, I have been watching you from the start in the Baron when you first started on the radios, your skills are growing by leaps and bounds. Bob is chatting for his pie LOL It's nice to see you not in thous cast any more, I hop all is well with the arms now.
Best video yet (and they were all awesome)! I loved watching that. Reminds me of my own flight training days in the mid 80’s, and interestingly, also of my Instructing days from ‘89 to ‘91. Great memories. You’re doing SO well, and I know ow Chris is reminding you of that. Bravo! 👏
Well done Kim. You're lucky to have autopilot on a longer flight. I didn't have it back in the 80's and 3 hours flying manually was knackering, but exhilarating. Looking forward to the pie tasting and results.
Another great video. Thank you so much for sharing your journey - mine was 23 years ago, but many of the things you're saying transport me back to my own training. I hear you about focusing on the negatives. It’s human nature that negative news gets our attention. That won’t change, but those with a serious interest in aviation will place those negative reports in context with the big picture. Fwiw I’ve found your PIC series fascinating. You seem to be progressing very well. My interest in flying came a bit too late in life to make it a reasonable goal, however I can still learn from watching you and others like you enjoying the experience.
Thanks a ton for sharing your story! I've only been up there twice and kinda worried I won't remember everything. But hearing about your ups and downs has really given me a boost, knowing I'm not the only one feeling this way. Just gotta deal with this motion sickness so I can hang in there longer and catch more of the vibe!
Great job Kim. You’re looking and sounding like a pro every video I watch you in. Can’t wait for that PP check ride video, (if the examiner will let you video the check out). Can’t wait to see that little white square paper in your hands.
Great job Kim! For the autopilot question, it depends on your planes capabilities and how stable the traffic has been. The plane I fly, when I give it a higher altitude, pitches and climbs quickly by using indicated airspeed climb versus foot-per-minute. Keep in mind, that may also obscure my view which is bad. A normal 500 FPM climb may not be enough oomph in a short time to warrant the change. If the traffic has been stable, sometimes it is best to leave everything alone, or climb on IAS (no stall) autopilot and focus on watching for traffic. That was a real good flight, stayed ahead of the airplane all of the time, nice control and on it coms, the landings were fab too, especially with the wind being off 40 degrees and blustering 14 knots, not usually easy to master but you had a greaser on the second one!.
Your doing great Kim !!.... 4:20 ...I have the same problem and even after 30 years. I like to take baby carrots along if I travel far and long. A little moisture for the mouth and some crunch to keep me busy. Thanks for sharing with us.
I tend to eat every flight I’m SIC and yet when I’m PIC, I either don’t “feel” hungry or just too focused on flying to remember to eat. I guess that’s a good thing? lol😂
Great job Kim. In the 70’s, I had 4 hours in a 150. The only thing I remember is “keep your hand on the throttle, save the hand on your knee for your girlfriend “.
Very nicely done. I used to get a really dry mouth while I was doing the external preflight inspection. Once I was actually in the aircraft I was fine though.
Kim it's normal to have nerves on your first long country, it means you are human. You are doing a great job honestly.
Kim - your confidence is so impressive. I remember a couple years ago, you struggling to make calls in the Baron on the radio. Now you sound like a PIC and taking command of the aircraft. Hi Kim, it's all normal what you're feeling. Just always remember to fly the airplane and don't let it fly you. Wishing you the best. 😊
We all went through these things in our training, but we never had cameras recording every decision, and mistake we made, to later be broadcast on UA-cam. We are all behind you!

Kim, nerves or nor, I enjoyed the entire flight! And would happily fly with you anytime. Especially if pie is involved.
Position CHECK right after radar contact phrase, I love it that is a really good practice.
Absolutely fantastic episode! Congrats on that great long flight FlyingPIC! :)

Good job Kim I'm proud of you girl!❤
Loving your series. I flew out of Cincinnati Lunken for 25 years, and trained right there at Claremont County. Keep the post coming Kim!
Your concerns pre flight tell me your not stupid enough to think this is easy, it's not. You are doing great staying ahead of the plane and talking to us at the same time, don't get cocky and your going to be great, I'm sure Chris is proud of you, hang in there, best wishes.
So glad to have the real star of this channel have a solo performance. Thanks for sharing! See ya later!
Knocking it out of the park!!! A+!!! 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎

Thank you Kim for sharing your journey, you are truly an inspiration for us on the road to PPL!
Misses a few episodes. I must say that you sound much more comfortable in your voice and situational awareness. Congratulations my dear. You rock!

Awesome flight. You are definitely an example of persistence and determination. Thank you for being transparent.
Kim I was getting nervous to the set up to land and the relation to the runway always gets me.. Great job
Long Solo Cross Country is reeeaaaly dificult task to acomplish. Well done. Congratulatios you did awesome!
I am so so proud of you. I can’t wait to see you flying the Barron soon.

Nailing it… but…. Do you ever think BOB might just be using you for pie delivery???? 😂😂 👍
lol if I deliver- he pays🤣🤣

cinematically, you are right on target! very inspirationally encouraging!

Hey great flight Kim all the best for the rest of your training good job 👍
you are one gutsy lady Kim... it has been great watching your progress... loved every minute

Grats!! Ya landed on wheels! Ya'lls INTRO is EPIC!! Congrats to BOB. I love this series.
Thanks! 😎
Always a Rush...the best feeling being challenged and all that training comes in to focus....well done..
Keep plugging along! That was a greaser! I got my PPL last January. It just keeps getting better!

Sounds like you prepared well, without outside interference of influence. I would be the same. Well done. It shows a good responsibility level.
Good job, Kim! Hope the pie was good. 😄
Kim you are killing it, I have been watching you from the start in the Baron when you first started on the radios, your skills are growing by leaps and bounds.

It's nice to see you not in thous cast any more, I hop all is well with the arms now.
Good morning from Minnesota! Great job!
Bravo! 👏
Congrats on your pilot training progress and bringing us along with you. Great channel.
Wow! The last time I watched she was a new passenger. Excellent work.
Well done Kim. You're lucky to have autopilot on a longer flight. I didn't have it back in the 80's and 3 hours flying manually was knackering, but exhilarating. Looking forward to the pie tasting and results.
You Did Great Kim ! You are correct about US out here sending LOVE out to you! Just remember to stick to that CENTER LINE .
The damn centerline.. it always moves on me!😂
Another great video. Thank you so much for sharing your journey - mine was 23 years ago, but many of the things you're saying transport me back to my own training. Since then I've gained an Instructor's licence to pass the joy onto the next generation. You're doing great, and seeing a wonderful example for others to follow.

Kim, I am proud of you we don’t know each other, but I am proud of you like you were my daughter my little girl how cute you are
Congrats on your long xc, nice job as always!
You go Girl!!!!Nice job and remember to have fun!!!!!
Great job,Kim!
Great flight & congratulations on your aviation success.✈️
KIM, I am really proud of you for doing this. Well done. AND, not everyone can even drive a car well?
If the traffic has been unstable or inconsistent, disconnect, do a notable course and/or speed change to generate a good bit of distance preferably behind the target, then once clear you can realign to destination/altitude and resume normal flying.
This plane’s AP only has ALT, VS and APR vertical modes, no IAS (or VNAV).
Personally, I’m not changing altitudes unless the target is maneuvering, which is rare at cruise altitudes. I’d rather turn behind them and stay level. But either way, I’m staying on AP so I can keep my eyes outside.
So very proud of you!! Thank you for the video!!! Very inspiring!!
Congratulations!
You got this. See you guys at Sun N Fun soon.
It was nice landing! I have wanted to see the pie. I fly and have it by myself sometime.
Great job Kim
Nice work on those landings Kim. Butter.
I may be left of centerline, but they’re slick😂😎
You are doing awesome girl
That was a real good flight, stayed ahead of the airplane all of the time, nice control and on it coms, the landings were fab too, especially with the wind being off 40 degrees and blustering 14 knots, not usually easy to master but you had a greaser on the second one!.

My home airport, very cool 🥰😎👍🏻✈️
Nice! It was fun flying there, much more eventful than flat Florida
Your hard work is paying off!
Great Land❤
nice job, Kim. 👍
