I like recommendations like these but I'd love some advice about complete "combinations" of fish... like "in a 20 gallon long tank you can keep these species together and the amount of each species" just as a help as not all fish go together /need the same things. And sure, it's all a matter of taste, but with a "XX gallon recipe" you could also mention what you could replace certain fish with... and it could be different difficulty levels too. I'm sure both beginners and pros might appreciate that.
You should check out aquarium co-op's videos. I was watching one of those when this came up in recommended. They have vids with different tank size scenarios with plant and fish combinations.

I love Glowlight tetras. I highly recommend them. They are hardy and have some real personality once they have been in your tank for awhile. So amazing to watch them mate. Way easier than neons.
huh, interesting because i've had glowlights before but mine attacked my sparkling gourami and even my cories. but i didnt have any problems with keeping them alive they were just mean for me.
@@chriscasan some people say that cardinal teteras are small enough to fit in the angelfish mouth and that angelfish are to big for a 29 tall but I still for sure wanna get an angelfish though
@@cameroncarter1739 Eh, I think an angelfish would be fine in a 29 tall. I've seen full grown ones in standard 20 gallons. You might be right about the cardinals.
It's funny you brought up the hardiness of the black skirt tetra. I lived in Virginia in 1994 and an ice storm caused power to go down for over two weeks. The Black Skirt tetras survived until the second to last day of the ice storm. At this point several of them were getting close to 6 years old as well. As far as fin nipping I have observed them doing it sadly. Tore up a blue Angelfish I had in with them. Overall I love this list. So many great tetras to pick. The only one I thought shouldn't have been left out is the Lemon Tetra. Also super hardy and yellow body with a red eye just like the red eye tetras... they just have a yellow tinted body.
Great content. I'm keeping or have kept all these guys. Nice list, and I appreciate the fact that when fish have similar parameter requirements, you still restate them. Sometimes repetition makes a point, and if someone is skipping to see if a fish they're interested in, they wouldn't have those pertinent facts, if not repeated. Personally my favorite is axolotls they technically aren’t fish but they should be treated as them they get up to be about 9 inches long but you can put one in a 20 gallon aquarium. Sadly you can’t put them with other fish as they will eat them but it’s okay since they are just so adorable and have so much personality. I’m thinking about getting 2 and putting them in a 30 gallon tank. I’d highly recommend looking them up if you don’t know what they are it’s almost a guarantee that they will become you obsession.

Great video, just redid my 29 gallon and one of the fish are serpae tetras (10 of them). Also added 10 dwarf neon rainbows and lots of plants. A combo that makes a pleasant and active tank. Again thanks for the video and the other videos you provide.
Not on-topic but, I have seen a lot of complaints about hang on back filters draining during a power failure and burning the motor out when it comes back on. I think I have a solution...a 3/4" check valve added to the intake should prevent the draining. I have one ordered and will try it out. If anyone is interested in trying this, it is part #200-C07.
As a teenager I had a school for years and ended up getting angel fish (it was a 55 gallon aquarium). They started dying of old age and finally one old one was left and ended up schooling with my angel fish. I joked that my angel fish had a mini me 😂

I want to have 6 corys, 6 rummy nose tetra along with at least 2 from Ember Tetra- 6 Lemon Tetra- 6 White skirt Tetra- 6 Guppy- 6 Amano Shrimp- 6 Please tell me how many can I stock in my tank and which of above will be good..
X-ray, bleeding Heart, black phantom and congo tetras are all great and close to all these tetras....also glofish work great (yes I know you guys aren't a fan, but they take attention away from painted fish, so to me that is a win)....p.s. 10 things is probably my favorite series!

My 70 gal discus tank just produced the following results at the same time Nutrafin 8PPM; Waterworks Nitrate strips 10PPM; Salifert 25PPM; Seachem 25PPM; API 40PPM plus. As you can see there is only one consensus, and I'm not sure what to trust. Any opinion? Tom

I have a 20 gallon with 15 Neon Tetras, 3 Bamboo Shrimp, and 2 Danios (originally had 7 but 5 died over the span of a couple months for unknown reasons and I’m planning on donating the remaining 2 to the lfs soon). The neons never seem to school unless it’s time to eat. Is there any larger fish I can get that’d be safe for the Shrimp but also make the neons school more?
i have to build community tank around mollies. I got one that has been passed from fairground prize booth to kid to my brother-in-law to me. upgrading tank size every step of the way. but still stuck with just him in a 10 gallon... but will be moving into a 60 gallon after i can get it all set up and i will be hosting a community with a school of mollies for him.

i bought a 5 gallon aquarium recently..... i have 3 glofish tetras which are the same thing as white skirt tetras and 1 is fin nipping the other too. Only difference is that these fish have jelly fish dna in them. But first tank ever, 5 gallons, first three glofish/white skirt tetras and one already fin nipping first week, seems like a highly probable thing in my opinion. however i did get three so maybe its bc of the odd number?
Why do you recommend flake food over pellets? I’ve had great success with small community fish with the 0.5 mm pellets from Northfin and NLS and I’ve consistently read that pellets are generally superior to flakes.

I added stress coat and nitrifying bacteria readistart The next day later I added 5 peppered Cory cats then a few days after that I got a loach (4 inch max growth) he’s either albino or a golden dojo not sure. And 3 zebra danios I plan to buy 3 more. Guy at the pet store told be to only add 3 at a time... anyways I tested my water today and it all came back good besides NO2 level is 1.0 was wondering if you had any tips on how to lower it and also am I overstocking or you think I may be able to add something more would really appreciate your helps thanks
No. But i recommend investong in a bigger tank if you want alot more. Something you can get for you tank is a centerpiece fish like, German blue ram, bolivian ram, kribensis or Apistogramma
Dont think so. That would be very overstocked. You should invest in a bigger tank. You can try with zebra danios, galaxy rasboras and other small schooling fish
Need advice on how to keep a single betta alone in a 5 or 10gallon tank ALIVE for more than five months!!! I've had 2 so far at different times that both died for different reasons. It was VERY upsetting.
I'm taking over my guy's kid's aquarium while he's in college-- he's got a ratag group of fish, including (2) black skirts. My LFS told me to trade them out, that they are very aggressive :( I was thinking instead of moving them to a separate 10 gallon and adding like 2 more fish.
I had 2 Dalmatian Balloon Molly fish in with one of my betta males and they were the biggest bullies ever! Then when. They got tired of picking on others the one decided the other was a snack and took some bites out of its fins. I had to finally separate them and now they are terrorizing BOTH my 5 gallon tanks!
Depends on the size of the fish and temperament of the fish themselves. Also depends how you want to do the ratio of bottom dwellers to mid/top swimming fish

Aren't serpaes agressive fin nippers??..are they suitable for community tanks??
Yes they are, not good community fish
My serpae tetras don't bother anybody in my community tank. I love them!

Actually mollies do better in brackish water or at water with higher salt content. If I remember correctly they can strive in saltwater environment.

No! The platys will bil fins. The betta will attack. Do your research

Had to isolate our Dalmations, they were total a-holes.

I had 2 Dalmatian Balloon Molly fish in with one of my betta males and they were the biggest bullies ever! Then when. They got tired of picking on others the one decided the other was a snack and took some bites out of its fins. I had to finally separate them and now they are terrorizing BOTH my 5 gallon tanks!
