I think personally that this was possibly meant to be some sort of example of what Stasis was actually like for Gordon, a constant loop of trying to escape a surreal and horrifying twisted version of reality
@Sidni Snigniggles G-man is always struggling with speech even in the retail games. He stutters in random places and it seems like he always runs out of oxygen while speaking
The idea of the tutorial stage going nightmarishly off the rails is honestly really cool and unique. Some horror game should take that idea and run with it. Also, I like the tricks you did with the pacing and presentation of this video! Fits the map quite well
I'm just glad you didn't include a jumpscare or a screamer, and for that, THANK YOU. Most of your uploads are late at night for me in the uk, so I appreciate it alot that with these videos you didnt put one. Unlike 1 beta video which is one of if not the most popular beta video.
One of the tracks in the Half Life 2 soundtrack is called "You're Not Supposed To Be Here" so maybe that track was named after this or made for this level?
At 6:06 one of those images actually looks like a different version of the Gman area in Hazard.. Pretty sure that red circle behind him is a recolored hazard eye!
"Cleverly done, Mr. Radiation Hazard, but your not supposed to be here. As matter of fact, your not. Get back where you belong and forget about all this. Until we meet again."
to be honest, hazard 1 is one of the few beta things that would still work in half-life, you have things like the combine assassin, and the cremator. stuff like the cremator is to edgy, the combine assassin wouldn't work with the lore, bullsquides and houndeyes wouldn't fit the setting post 7 hour war. hazard 1 dose a good job at exploring a concept that is very under explored.
Bullsquid and Houndeyes are implied to still be around, so I see no reason for people to be against discussing them. Wish they were in the game as is, probably in specific areas. Meh, Cremators just clean the streets, they're about as dark as everything else. With how dodgy HL2 lore is, The Combine Assassin could easily exist somewhere. We don't know.
in way . i am glad we didn't get the training mod in half life 2 . in HL1 it make more sense when come to the lore . in HL2 the first chapter is the training mod . so no one will miss on any information on their first play through and it put you in the heat of the action .
I agree. It wouldn't have made sense. But, a Hazard Course set in Black Mesa East would have been cool (I guess). Like, Kleiner and Eli guiding us through a very rough looking training course. But how HL2 teaches the player while in the starting chapters is pretty good too.
People seem to think of unused content as creepier than the final, regardless of whether it is or not. This is a perfectly justifiable example of it being horrifying.
Great video as always. This is one of my favorite maps. The music choice was pretty good too! Although the editing in some parts was a lil rough around the edges, but apart from that, I enjoyed the video!
due to some of the sprite files having the word ‘psychedelic’ in them, i believe this map is based loosely off of an lsd trip. other things that make me believe this are how in the map you hear strange voices and the walls start to move, aswell as the strange breaks in reality, all of which can be experienced under the effects of lsd.
@@totallynoteverything1. it honestly does, but the level creates amazing ambience you dont usually see in many games, let alone a game that never was intended to be a horror game.
This was a very well made and informative video! I find stuff like this sooo interesting. This particularly I find very fascinating. Shame it didn’t make it into the game tho.
This map was made to show what it looked like when G-man was manipulating Gordon's perceptions of reality. Marc refers back to it in his story outlines and vignettes seen in the uncorrected Raising The Bar proof available online. He originally intended for the opening train ride to be a lot longer and have segments where the g-man was to show the passage of time to Gordon
Would be cool if hazard was actually the intro for half life 2 I mean you start like is a hazard course , then things happening, after that you Fit it in with the dark interval intro in the borealis , that would be perfect
this map maybe Marc Laidlaw trying the new fancy source engine and seeing how to tell environmental story . it got horror feeling to it . or he just checking the engine .
As far as I know, it was created in order to see if surreal elements could be implemented in Half-Life 2 and the new engine (at the time). Gabe liked the map so much that he wanted to make something similar for the HL2 presentation at E3 2003. And so, Psyche was born.
honestly i kinda wish they made some sorta noncanon game where its like, a half life themed horror game like this with the main story being that gordon has some sorta brain problem or whatever that one fast moving image in the maps ending implies
Hey rad idk if anyone else has discovered this or I'm the first probably not but when I replaying hl2 I was on the chapter "Water Hazard" when the screen with breen glitching out you can see gman if u can pause it fast enough it's the same image as the one in the thumbnail it creeped me out thinking about that they kept that in like a shiver but please do check maybe make a video about it remember it's the screen with breen glitching out in the water hazard chapter

Sorta makes it seem like G-Man is making Gordon re-run the hazard course in his imagination over and over while he's in stasis.
