I remember en la calle lealtad en casa de el congero, tu llegabas con Benji el bajista tu llebabas la congita y cuqndo la Banda practicaba tu tambien tocaba tu pequena conga, tatin el cogero te dejaba tocar las conga en un solo de conga llo siempre estaba ay, mi tio marselino el salsofonista, mas viviamos dos casas mas abajo.

But as my playing and my ear developed over time i came to realized that what giovanni is doing on the drums is showman ship "tricks" and at the end if the day it has no musical value ...
@@kalprao Complete nonsense. All the best players of today have been influenced by Hidalgo. Logically when he gives a drum clinic, it's usually filled with tricks and rhythms that few can replicate, but if you check him out playing within an ensemble my friend, there are few, if any that are as musical as Giovanni.
@@cycleof7s438 Yeah there's bunch of giovanni's wannabes that he influenced in the 90's till 2010's. but that era is gone . While those guys were busy copying his style and styling in UA-cam ,a new wave of young Cuban player started to emerge on the scene specifically in NYC and west coast, these guys brought some new finesse and flavor that it wasn't long enough that they took over as the preferred percussionists ...look ,Gio is Gio for the Solos that he does and some other stuff that I think is genius ,I got to give it to him .but musically ,I think that's up for debate

There have been great cuban drummers as well as drummers from NY, PR, Venezuela, Colombia etc. I respect your opinion, but don't agree with it. Especially about Gio and his musicality. You can debate it, but i think you'll have a terribly hard time trying to convice people that he is not a musical drummer.
@@cycleof7s438by takeover I mean that the Cubans are getting all the gigs . I'm in NYC and this is what I have perceived in the last decade,I know a couple of them and some good Cuban bassist . they're getting most of the studio recordings as well .

Uno de los aportes de Giovanni Hidalgo a la tecnica de la conga es tomar la tecnica drummers e incorporarlo a la conga.
