Congeros have come and gone but Giovanni is still here and still the master. He is like a master chef knowing which spices to throw in, when to do it how hot the fire should be when to let it simmer. His playing is many many years of practicing many hours per day. He does it with humility too. Respect for the master.

Amazing how clear he sounds even when he plays fast, even timing. I've heard others do it and they are good, but the clarity and timing, Hidalgo has it on them. Just saying

Giovanni is amazing, as always. He is using the Latin Percussion "Giovanni Galaxy" tumbas. They only make four sizes (Requinto, Quinto, Conga and Tumbadora) but there are six in the video. It would be helpful if they listed which ones he is using. Obviously, duplicates are tuned to different notes. I wish Latin Percussion would make a Supertumba in the Galaxy range. The Palladium range has a Supertumba (but then lacks the Requinto), but I think it is ugly. The Galaxy ones look great. A Supertumba would give five notes. One could also add their 9" WB Caribe Conga, as a "Requintolito", which would add a note higher than the Requinto. (It is a different color, but would not clash.) The Caribe and a Supertumba would give six notes. Anyway, Giovanni has got six notes here.

Those are the SHURE Beta 98 D/S with the new LP Mic Claw (LP591A EZ-Mount Mic Claw.) The Audix M44s are much smaller and stubbier than the Beta 98s D/S. It looks like the basket holding the SHURE mics is the Audix M44 basket-which would make sense as the new LP claw doesn't come with a basket to hold the mic. Reply
