    Fantastic detailed instructions. Thanks for the advise on adhesive type and what potential problems might be encountered. I replaced the battery in my Ipad Air version 1 and accidentally cut the flex cable while opening it up. With this video, I was able to order a new flex cable and resolve my problem for a fraction of the cost of a new Ipad. By the way, Xylol (or Xylene) works well to dissolve and remove the original Apple adhesive. I read several discussions and found scraping plus solvent was the only way to properly clean the glass and metal case. I would recommend your video to any aspiring amateur trying to save an older Ipad.

    Great video! Two questions. 1) In the vid you use T7000 but in the notes you link to E8000. Which do you recommend? 2) I don't recall your using Tesa adhesion promoter in the vid, only Primer 94. Did I miss it or is the Tesa offered as an alternative to something else?

    Hello,
    I changed the screen on my iPad and replaced the home button that came with the screen. The original home button doesn’t seem to fit on the screen properly. It’s a little wiggly and moves right/left. It clicks after pressing it hard. Do you know what could have gone wrong? Finger print is working fine so it doesn’t look like it’s damaged. Is it possible that the after market glass has a slightly bigger hole which isn’t letting the home button sit properly?

  • @zzzmon

    I wish I had seen this video before I replaced my screen. The screen replacement went well, but I didn't realize that the home button bracket need to be glued down. Fortunately I had enabled the soft home button on my iPad, so I may just live with it.

  • @TheVic18t

    Hmmm does the gasket need adhesive? You mentioned that it has adhesive but do not clean it off or replace it. My home button gasket comes loose and makes the home button rock and tilt, affecting its responsiveness.
    I am afraid to add adhesive to the gasket since it might affect the button mechanically.

    Thanks for this video. I appreciate all the extra details about things to watch out for. I recently had to replace the battery and the screen/digitizer in my iPad Mini 4. Had I known all the possible pitfalls, I would have just paid an expert to do those things for me. My problem is that I must have somehow broken my home button in moving it to the new screen and my iPad now says it cannot enable touch. It does retain the feel of the old home button as far as clicking properly, etc. When I first reassembled it, the home button seemed to work at first, but now it is not working at all. Are there things I can check or should I just try to install a new home button realizing that I will not have the touch available? Are there ways an expert would be able to determine if I have just installed it incorrectly or whether I have broken it and need to replace it?

    • @victorsam9871
      @victorsam9871 3 роки тому +1

      Facts. 1. Mostly chances are your Home Button is broken. 2. It can be fixed, but it will be atleast $80-$120 if You want Finger Print unlocking aka Touch ID on your ipad. 3. As You already closed your ipad, now, to open the screen, without breaking/cracking the outer glass screen is all together a very difficult and highly skilled task, since ipad mini 4 and mini 5 comes with fused displays, not like ipad 7th gen or ipad 8th gen. 4. As You said, Your ipad clicks, but that does not do anything to the ipad means, its completely broken / or may be it is not correctly put into the flex cable connector.
      To conclude
      basically, You fucked up your ipad mini 4, trying to save $30-$50. But repair stores do charge you a lot. That is also a fact.

    • @RosieCarl
      @RosieCarl 3 роки тому +2

      @@victorsam9871 I accepted the fact that I lost my touch ID, and I can live with that. I did reopen my iPad again, which was much easier now that I know how. I installed a much better battery. I was able to greatly improve the response on my screen. And I learned new skills along the way. Well worth the mistakes that I made. Definitely not worth the price to get the touch id resolved at this point on an iPad this old.

    After a home button fell off twice (after digitizer replacement, used gorilla glue gel) I was given this link , I have 3m tape 6mm wanted to buy the 94 Primer and found there are two, one is "3m Primer 94" in an 8oz can, the other "3m 94 Primer" in a 32oz bottle (way cheaper) . confusing or what? and is Tesa Tape better than 3m tape ?
