Which part is the critical part on a home button as to the Touch ID function? Where is the actual Touch ID component? Is it imbedded in the sensor surface part (the round thingy) or is it somewhere else on the ribbon? Under the square metal cap? I ask as I have had several damaged iPads that have either torn of the whole thing near the connector on the mainboard - but also had cables that are torn out right at the edge of the button - but both give the same error message saying Touch ID could not be activated.

So I found another video of a repair of a home-button where the cable was torn out right at the edge of the button, and this kinda makes me thing that the "active part" may in fact be the in the sensor itself. It appeared that they only replace the ribbon cable intact and only kept the original button.
A job well beyond a DIY-er sadly so the iPad I have is more or less junk.
Is it possible to use a non-Touch-ID button from an older iPad and somehow bypass the activation prompt?

I accidentally ripped the Touch ID flex of my iPad 2017. Then I saw the section where Touch ID is soldered on the flex cable. So I ordered a replacement flex cable but it came with a premounted Home Button, that is one part with the flex cable itself BUT the flex cable also has the solder pads on it. My question: Could I cut off the Home Button and solder the original Touch ID onto the solder pads? Would it work?
