      Here I was sitting in the Midwest thinking it sounded more like the New England. We're generally known for being overtly friendly here. Children are to be yelled at in the privacy of our homes. If you bump into another man on the street, you're more likely to get an "Ope, let me squeeze by you" than a yelling match.

      They truly are! I think even the adult fur seals are adorable...the females more than the males. Not only do they look adorable but their inquisitive & playful personalities mean they often act adorable as well! Although they still fall far short of the extremely adorable(& often hilarious) personalities of their cousins the seal lions. At least in the wild that is. In zoos...which work hard to train both sea lions & fur seals in order to keep their minds active, improve their quality of life & perhaps most importantly to allow their caretakers to check for any signs of injury/illness & be able to treat any such issues...both fur seals & sea lions show very similar levels of intelligence & playfulness. Regardless both are really adorable to me. With sea lions being more so in personality & fur seals in appearance.

    "Just imagine if 95% of the forest in your hometown had been cut down in the last 20 years."
    The "Hambacher Forst", one of the last diverse ancient forests existing since the beginning of the holocene in Germany, once spreading over 4100ha prior to clearance by energy giant RWE starting in the 70s in order to access brown coal resources below, now spreads over only about 500ha anymore. The energy company had planned to cut down the remaining area in 2018-2020 and the local government granted them to do so. Only an extended legal dispute by conservationist organisations and mass protest of 50000 people end of 2018 in front of the forest put their plans on halt until the situation is reassessed (court decision from early 2020). Although admittedly, I only moved somewhat close to it in 2013 and hadn't even heard about it before, sometimes one doesn't have to imagine.

    • @FumbleSquid
      @FumbleSquid 4 роки тому +9

      And you know what's the worst about germany's energy situation? They are anti-nuclear. If they had just gone with that and stopping shutting down the ones they already have, there wouldn't be a need to mess up stuff like that.

    • @littlerave86
      @littlerave86 4 роки тому +9

      @@FumbleSquid I know that as I'm German, and I'm anti-nuclear as well. Yes, it is certainly better than the brown coal we use instead but many of the nuclear reactors are ramshackle and less safe than people believe (the reactivation of the reactor in Tihange in Belgium has been heavily critisized). There is a wikipedia article listing nuclear accidents in case you're interested. Also, while it might be a somewhat clean form of energy, no-friggin-body knows what to do with the radioactive waste it produces. Despite almost 80 years of using nuclear power, nobody has come up with any long-term solution to the waste problem. And I honestly doubt there will ever be any. But nuclear power aside, the worst about Germany's energy situation is actually that the government is subsidizing dirty fossil fuels and reducing subventions for actual green energy, which we should expand much more and invest in clean energy research.

      Honestly she really should have thought that statement out. Since most towns/cities remove 95% or more of the trees inside town/city limits. Now...has she said county, state or regional area then THAT would’ve been far more significant...not to mention more accurate. Yet even then...in many places 95% or more of the natural forest or other type of habitat HAVE been destroyed. Often within far less than 20yrs. Which is something she should be aware of in her job. I think it was just a poor choice of woods.

    Daaaaw 🥰 I love seals, they look so goofy and cute and then they're so skilled at hunting - what's not to like about that. We only got two domestic seal types inhabiting our Baltic Sea coastline and those are harbour and grey seals. Those harbour seals are actually called Seehunde in my native German and that literally translates to sea dog :3

    Every time I argue with conservationists, we end up stuck in this loop. It's comical. Reminds me of that oil tanker accident. The one where the front fell off.
    The conservationists are worried about the environment.
    Me: What environment?
    Them: This one
    Me: What's wrong with it?
    Them: It's changing!
    Me: Into another Environment.
    Them: That's bad.
    Me: What wrong with the other environment?
    Them: We're not talking about that environment, we're talking about this one.
    Me: So what's wrong with this one.
    Them: It's changing!
    Me: Changing to what?
    Them: Stop changing the subject!
    I just don't see what makes one species or eco-system more valuable than another. Species go extinct all the time, new ones form as quickly as they die out. I don't see why we need to protect nature from itself. So what if the earth is warming. The planets average temperature is still lower now than it was through most of life's history. The Ice caps aren't even supposed to be there. They're remnants of the last ice age, that ended ages ago. Bio-diversity seems to thrive off of heat and water. The only problem with global warming is it's making dry places dryer. But it's also thawing out the more inhospitable parts of the world. So all in all it's a give and take. Some species die, some thrive moving into newly accessible areas. I don't see the problem. This isn't a mass extinction event, it's not even close.
