  • In this video, I get to help my good friend Val install a 4.5" Rough Country Long Arm lift kit on his 1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic.
    This is a fairly comprehensive video, if not the longest on my channel yet. The goal is to show the step-by-step process and reveal tips and tricks while working on a 22 year old vehicle.
    In the future we intend on showing the tires, wheels, and additional components that were necessary to optimize this 4.5" lift kit.
    Stay Tuned!
    We finally got to go off-roading in the XJ. Check it out: • Jeep Cherokee XJ | Off...

    I learned the famous Harbor Freight Rule back in 1999 when my socket wrench broke.
    I had loosened the bolt tension with a breaker (never with a socket wrench if it has too much tension), then used the socket wrench to finish loosening.
    Then in mid-rachet...hardly with any tension, the damn lever pin inside the Harbor Freight rachet broke.
    But that was back in 99, maybe they improved on their build quality since then.

      I personally love HF for certain items, and at the same time avoid other items. Just depends. Even lifetime warranty can be useless when the tool breaks on a monthly basis.

    I did myself in a day and change but i lucked out that nothing was rusted and every bolt came off with ease. Which was a super win.

    You should put some anti seize on the old bolts before you reinstall them

    Question do I have to doo all the other stuff like control arms,track bar n all with a 3inch lift ?

    • @YevZakharov
      @YevZakharov  6 місяців тому +1

      I don’t think so, because most 3” lifts claim you don’t have to. Anything above usually benefits from the additional changes, like we did in this video. There’s a follow up video where we go off-roading and explain some of the additional parts.

    Was a slip yoke eliminator needed? Sorry if I missed it in the video

    • @YevZakharov
      @YevZakharov  4 роки тому

      Yes. I plan on making a follow up video to explain everything else that was needed. Corona kind of got in the way of everything.

      even if its not really needed, it will make ur jeep cruise so much smoother its crazy. im at 3.25-5 and i noticed big time. i also was able to get away with a stock front driveshaft shoved in the rear with the SYE and at my height.

    I'm on the fence of what kit I want. Do you feel like this kit is comfortable for daily driver use ?

    • @YevZakharov
      @YevZakharov  3 роки тому

      So this Jeep is actually my friend’s. He uses it as a daily driver, so he thinks it’s comfortable. In my opinion it’s a little bumpy. But that’s because of the high lift.

    • @kevinc9934
      @kevinc9934 3 роки тому

      @@YevZakharov yeah I'm debating on this or a 3 inch. Also was wondering if the long arm made it better on the road or not. So hard to decide haha

    • @YevZakharov
      @YevZakharov  3 роки тому +1

      Another consideration of the 4.5” lift is the driveline vibration. If you watch the off-roading video I posted, we mention the parts we had to add on to make that go away. So a 3” lift may be easier in that regard.

    Did you have to put an extension on the sway bar ?

    • @FreAkLeFtY555

      Sway Bar Relocation Brackets....lol

    • @YevZakharov
      @YevZakharov  4 роки тому +2

      The rear use all the original sway bar parts. Which is confusing initially. But somehow works. Front end, as you can see in the video, has the new links and brackets.

      get rid of the rear sway bar, it does absolutely nothing!!

      The 4.5in long arm suspension kit from rough country is $1300. But as they showed you will likely want a torque wrench, grinder, sawzall, jacks, stands and the basic hand tools.

    How does the back of the Jeep ride mines really stiff

    • @YevZakharov
      @YevZakharov  4 роки тому +1

      It does ride more stiff. I think that it will ride softer after installing a metal bumper and adding the spare wheel/tire on the back end.

      I was told I needed to add shackle relocation brackets but personally I don’t want my Jeep looking like I did a 6 inch lift in the back and 4 in the front

      get rid of ur rear sway bar, it might help. I've had mine off for years, and i drive highway, offload, city driving, even go 85mph sometimes and its just fine with out it.

  • @69sound81
    @69sound81 8 місяців тому

    Loved it, but the jeep simply looks ridiculous 4.5" higher on stock wheels and tires. It is like watching a lowrider all the way up. I'm sure it will look just like it should once you thow the right tires there
