    Bought all the kit and downloaded lite version of Motoscan. Then asked Motoscan support which level of their software I needed and they told me Professional which I bought for £21.80 but when I went to do the Coding bit that Albe says is required to extinguish the service light, it came up with a message to tell me that Coding was not possible in that level.(Abe does say you need ultimate level). I messaged support again in high dudgeon and they responded to say very emphatically that Coding is not required after resetting the service and it is WRONG! Then turned the bike ignition back on to find service light gone, so reluctant as I am to criticise, it would appear that Albe is incorrect in the last bit and that you do only need the Professional level software which is not too pricey. So total outlay if you already have an Android phone would be around £65 for the OBD LX, £15 for the cable and £21.80 for the software. Total around £100.

    A few comments from my side:
    I've got F800 GS, year 2008.
    During resetting the service interval, found out the date which was set in the motorcycle was 20.8.2100. :-) I changed it to current date.
    I also changed the next service data to new mileage and date. After that I did one ignition cycle and the Service Light was gone. No coding needed.
    In the coding I found that the unit for fuel was set to gallons, even though the other units were metric.
    And BTW the bike comes from UK. In the BMW workshop in Dresden they told me they can't change the units in settings, they need to reflash brand new firmware :-D

    Hey Bud, Times have changed I bought the small cable and obd lx on amazon for 101. plus 27 ap and then another 27 for ultimate app runs now about 155. cleared the light on my f700gs. I was having problems because I kept putting in 8000 km which was 5k in miles. Bike has 35407 miles on it...because I want to change every 5k miles on oil. but service light kept staying on...so duh you need to put in overall miles in KM so 35407+5k = 40407 convert to Km =roughly 65000km so thats what i SET IT TO and wallah it worked! I assumed all you had to do is put in 8000km for every 5000 miles....but its at your next interval so 40,407 or 65k. Duh.....I was telling the bike I wanted an oil change at 5000 miles when I was alreay at 35407 NO WONDER IT WOULD NOT GO OUT HAHAHAAH, Thx for the great video!

    Great video. Regarding costs, MotoScan isn't stupid. If you could reset the service indicator from the free app, they'd never actually sell anything. I already had an OBDLink LX, so that wasn't an expense, and my G310GS has a standard OBD 2 socket, so no adapter needed.
    Even if my dealer did a free reset, the ability to do it at home and avoid the trip is well worth the money.

    Thanks Albe - that was a great demonstration. My 2017 F800GSA already has an OB2 plug. I will look for the Link LX as I don't like having to go to the dealer for something like this. Also I like to do a minor service on my bikes every 5000kms anyway so may as well set the indicator to suit my needs. Paul

    Manufacturers should let us purchase their OEM diagnostic tool/software especially to those who own multiple bikes.
    My K03 is a real hassle to DIY since we have this Limited Access Highway Act on motorcycles below 400cc on our freeway. As if putting a motorcycle on a Trailer isn’t a hassle enough.
    200KM trailer hitch to the dealer just to reset that damn service light.
    Great Vid. I’ll look into this.

    Hey Albe, thanks a lot !!!!!!!!!!! That is perfect for me. In Argentina the 10.000 kilometers service cost me 326 dolars, so the OBDlink is a great option.
    I think...... that when you change the service to 20.000 kilometers, the service light will come on at 31.656 miles in your odometer, or 08-08-2019 (what happens first). I mean, when you set 10.000 (miles or kilometers) i believe the service light will come on 10k from now on. Because the BMW service odometer counts backwards. The reminder says 1000 then 900, 800 to service.
    No more chitchat. Thank you very much for having tried the OBDlink LX.

      Any 2017 or newer model in Canada has the OBD connection standard as well. The dealerships in the Ontario region will not reset the service light unless they have completed the service. I am going to look into this solution. I think it makes a lot of sense based on how much a GS911 is.

    Hey Albe, I have an issue with the gear display suddenly disappearing when changing from 5 to 6, starts after about an hour of riding and then appears again after a change down. The BMW garage told me that the error code disappeared after a error code reset so a new gear sensor was not necessary, but I told them change it anyway for a new one. Sure enough the problem is back even after the new part is installed - any thoughts ?

    Hi. Thanks for a excellent video. After watching it, I bought the cable, downloaded the App and purchased the needed levels of the software. Thanks to you, I did not have to learn how to do the hard way and it looks to work just fine.
    However I have a F650GS 2010 (Twin) and I have to admit that I gets a little bit unsure if I did the reset fully right.
    Last official service km on my bike is 44000km e.g. I did leave to service at 34000 at Motorad the last time, couple years ago.
    Since then I have made the basic service my self and have hated the service indicator since then.
    But know when I have +60000 on the odometer I wanted to set next service to 70000km. I don't know if I should set 10000 and restet or if I should set 70000. Tried a lot and found out that I can set existing ODOmeter km + 5000, else it goes back to the 44000km :-(
    I probably figure out anyway and normally I do not drive more than 5000km in a year.
    So my question is, if there are a max setting on 5000km to next service or if I did this wrong and should set 10000km and push reset for getting 10000 more km?
    I know that you don't represent Motoscan but I have googled and have not found anywhere to ask/find out.

      Hi Peter, every time I dealt with the app it acted in a completely different way, the only thing I can suggest is to try with 5000 first and see what happens and if it doesn’t do what you want, try again the other way. Sorry I can’t be of more help. Good luck 👍

      @@AlbesADV Problem solved it was a pure RTFM error and I sitting here feeling like a loser :-D
      I did send a mail to Motoscan asking for any 5k km limitation and the answer I got back in few minutes was:
      Don't change any value, just reset the 3 button....
      Nothing wrong with your video, nothing wrong with your written instruction but I got stuck that you changed the 10000km to 20000km.
      Conclusion: if you run the service request at that same day, you actually does the service, you just confirm that actual date, confirm the amount of km in the service interval and finally accept the predefined date e.g. don't touch anything else except the 3 reset button and you are ready to update your bike.
      Tested and of course it worked just fine :-)

    Since you have a Garmin virb, I wonder if you can Bluetooth the motoscan to the virb and overlay the tach and other performance on to the motovlog videos

    Albe, do you think is possible to change the odometer from miles to kms? I bought my gs800 in USA, but moved then to Argentina and our system is same as in Europe. Thanks!

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  4 роки тому

      I think it is, I seamed to remember seeing an option about it, but I can’t remember if it was to set the service reminder or for the odometer itself.

      You're welcome. I emailed Motoscan and they also confirmed it. Wladimir Gurskij at Motoscan said the "ultimate" level of software is required for that function.

    Hello!
    I have a bike workshop and I am looking to invest in obd scanners. Do you know if there is a universal obd2 cable or if I should just buy one from each maker?
    Thank you!

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  5 років тому

      Hi there, each bike manufacturer has a different kind of plug, and you will need one cable per maker.

    Hi Albe, I just bought the OBDlink and cable. I have a 2013 F800GT and it's approaching 12k miles which is a $700+ service at BWM of Riverside, CA. Do you have a video on the 12k miles service?? Or, know a place that isn't a complete ripoff?

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  5 років тому

      I don't have the 12k video yet, and unfortunately I don't know any other place to do the service, if you are mechanically inclined you might want to take a look at at a service manual and see if you are up to the task before taking it in.

    • @robprov8766
      @robprov8766 5 років тому +1

      @@AlbesADV I do pretty good in the DIY realm, and the price they want is motivation in it's self! Thanks and I will watch for your 12k video... I still have 600 miles til it's due, but I have 3 bikes I ride so 600 miles could last 6 months.

    Hi Albe, thanks a lot for this video (very enlightening) I've checking out other videos and they say that is necessary to have the "pro" or "ultimate" version of the motoscan app, is this true?

    • @rtauler
      @rtauler 6 років тому +1

      I've rechecked your video, you indeed need the "pro" at least

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  6 років тому

      Unfortunately yes, to reset the service date you need the "pro" version, to reset the service light you need the "ultimate" version.

      As far as I know there is no danger of damaging the ECU, because you are not flushing it or anything, the program mimics the BMW tool.
