    Hands down the best tutorial on the hand work and finish work on utube Ive seen so far.. For all beginners you have helped many.

      Aww thank you! I don’t really style my videos as tutorials but I try to include as much of the process from start to finish as I can! Sometimes the best way to learn is through simple observation ☺️ Thank you, that rooster is still one of my favorite pieces!

    Thank you so much for these videos. I am another woman artist and I have wondered about this craft. You see people carving at fairs but usually they are doing the basic work. I now see how many expensive tools it takes to accomplish these works. You work is fantastic. I don't think I can afford to take it up as an art. But your are an inspiration to this old lady

      You don’t need all the dance tools, most of mine are the cheap ones from Harbor freight! I started out with only two tools and stayed that way for awhile! One $90 electric chainsaw and a $10 angle grinder! I was able to achieve a lot with just those and only recently expanded my tool collection this past winter :)

      There is actually no paint on him at all! Just fire side cherry timber oil on his comb and the rest of the body is torched, sanded, and sealed with Spar! I do almost always thin my paints though! ☺️

  • @jrich240h

    Awesome job! Random question. When you get green/wet logs in and you know you're not going to carve them up for a while, do you do anything to preserve them and keep them from cracking and splitting? Like do you seal the ends with anything until its time to carve them?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому +2

      Nope, I don’t do anything, just chop them up into smaller chucks (anything from 16”-48” long) and put them upright on pallets so they can start drying. Where I keep them is shaded all day, they never see direct sunlight. I try my best to get as much bark off as possible too. I like when my logs start checking prior to carving them, let’s me better plan where to put the faces. The wood is going to crack no matter what you do, so I just find it best work with the cracks instead of chasing them. But I think the 100% shade is the key, most of my logs have barely checked by the time I’m read to carve them and most have been sitting for 6 months or longer!

    Hi, that turned out beautifully. The chicks seemed to think it was real :) You mentioned you no longer have it. If you don't mind, can you say approximately how much a perfectly detailed piece like this would sell for?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Місяць тому

      My prices change based on martial costs and demand, but to give you an idea, today something like this would run around 500 and up depending on the level of detail desired! I'm always pushing myself for each piece to be better than the last and evolving my skills :)

    Nice, great work yet again Tay. Hows the petrol saw workign out for you btw? bit easier to block than the electric you had?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому +1

      I still love my Oregon saw and often use it for texturing and what not! It will be used a lot more during the winters when I’m trapped in my shelter! But the gas saws are actually a few pounds lighter and a bit faster so I find myself grabbing them more often! I’ll be adding to the collection soon too! Need a larger blocking saw for some big projects coming up!

      @@TayMarie23 good point, ive got a cheap make electric saw and recently acquired a battery saw, which is good but i really need another battery for it. haha theres always things to add to collection, ive had my eye on that really small echo saw, and a 80+ cc saw for the big logs like u say. plus id love to try those manpa tools. expendable money is always the issue though. keep creating Tay!
