    Good video, I have the Old Country Gravity. Extremely well built, all welded I ABSOLUTELY love it.
    They stand behind it and they're customer service is outstanding.
    My only complaint is there's no cover for it.

    I have the Gravity 980, and that thing is an absolute BEAST! Best money I've ever spent, hands down. It doesn't come without it's flaws, however, but they are easily remedied with some ingenious aftermarket mods. If I had only one complaint, it would be that you have to lift the entire chute out to empty the hopper. I like the trap door feature of the MB for that, but would I trade my Char Griller? Absolutely not.

    For the char griller, the Lowe's one is blue and the Menards one is red.

    FYI… Home Depot has to price match Walmart on the MB 800 w/griddle for the 550 price. I got mines around Black Friday. For 50 bucks more, getting an extra 200+ sq in. AND the griddle AND the front shelf makes the most sense unless you just don’t have the space.
    Btw love my MB800!

    I was fortunate to find an O.C. in Oklahoma. They are scarce to say the least. I seasoned it with recommendations from a few UA-camrs, including Mr. Yoder. The cooker is built like a tank and built in Mexico. I ordered a temp guage for it and added larger wheels from HF. I filled the stack with professional grade briquettes about 3/4 full and used a large chunk of hickory and weber wax to light. Once it got going, about an hour, the setting of the air valve at half showed an internal temp of 280. Top vent door fully opened and grease drain plug removed. 18 hours later the temperature inside the cooker showed 210 degrees. No fans, no electricity, just charcoal, a large chunk of hickory, and outside air flow. Need I say more...

    I have the MB800 and it replaced my WSM, kettle, and griddle. I just love how easy and versatile it is. For $500 it is a deal. Chargriller and MB are owned by the same company. Will it last as long as my old Webers...no way, but the BBQ is way better as I get really clean nice smoke that I did not get from my WSM and with wifi I can watch TV and monitor my cook as I could never do before. If they eventually build one of these that will last at twice the price it would be worth it. I like to smoke my chickens starting at 225 and getting up to 525° at the end for nice crispy skin and even with a temp controller I doubt the OC could do that. I also love that I load the MB with splits and charcoal and the flavor and ease of use can't be beat.

    l had the large LONESTARZ IVC smoker for about 6 years now and the O.C. gravity smoker 8 months. Got to say for a no frills smoker the smoke quality is as good as the LONESTAR, just not as pretty and not the same quality. She's EZ to run and holds temp well. (central WI.) I know smokers and Q. Started with my dad 50 years ago. For the price your not gone to do any better. Planning to leave it to my son or grandson. Box store brands will just be a pile of rust dust in a few years being stamped out of thin tin.

    I like how you can put a drip pan under your meats with the OCB smoker, can't really with other 2

    I thought gravity fed was just a fancier pellet smoker. Now I'm more intrigued by the design since it is coals and wood

    I had the 980 and just purchased the OCGS last week. I had no issues with the 980 other than it ‘feels’ a bit flimsy. I don’t get that with the OCGS.

    All of those REQUIRE electricity to work EXCEPT the Old Country Gravity Fed. OC is my choice hands down.

    I wouldn't think the old country can reach the high temperatures the other models can. Now I know that may not be useful for a lot of things, but I have to imagine that fan is the reason why you can sear a steak on the Masterbuilt and the Char-Griller. What's your take on that

    • @SmokeMasterD
      @SmokeMasterD  2 роки тому +2

      I definitely think the masterbuilt and Char-griller are made to be used as smoker grills whereas the old country is a smoker only.

      @@SmokeMasterD the manifolds seem like they were set up with that in mind too. What do you think the compromise is going the route mb and cg went? Efficiency, or maybe accuracy?

    After having the masterbuilt 1050 for almost 2 years, I would for sure say do not go with masterbuilt or anyone that has a setup where you need things closed to work. Now you can bypass the switches (if you know what you are doing) so the doors do not need to be closed for the fan to still work, however, it absolutely sucks to rely on a system like that. For sure go with old country, myron mixon or stumps grills. I would rather deal with a system that is by itself, that if it breaks I just need to replace that system, then a system like Masterbuilt and I am guessing Char where the whole grill is one whole system and you are trying to figure out what is not working. I have gone through their controller, their switches, their fan, their wires, their plug in. I mean lucky for me most of it was under warranty, but you can see the problem you deal with, with all those things together. Spend the money if you are a serious smoker and get a one of the other 3 I said here or one that is like those. At least with those 3 if say the system you bought goes out, you can still cook with the valve. You can't do any cooking with MB without the system.

    Will the ash pan hold a full hopper or do you have to dump it during the cook..??

    • @SmokeMasterD
      @SmokeMasterD  2 роки тому +1

      Good question. I believe it will require dumping during the cook. This could depend, however, on the length of the cook and on what kind of charcoal you use.

    I’ve got a MB 560 and have used it just shy of 3 seasons. It is literally falling apart and turning into rust-dust in front of my eyes. Great concept but it is made of the absolute cheapest metal and will not last. I have never had a smoker or grill that is as low quality as this piece of disintegrating crap. I’ve got a $39 grill that I use as a backup to my MB and a gas grill that is over 6 years old, sits out in the elements, and is uncovered and is still like new compared to the Masterbuilt. Very poor quality Masterbuilt!
