What They DON'T Tell You About LEXAPRO | What I Wish I Knew Before Therapy & Anxiety Medication

  • Why is No one talking about how HARD it is to actually go to therapy and get on medication. I wanted to share my story in the hope that it helps someone out there struggling. I was on Lexapro (Escitalopram) for 14 months, and it's changed my life. While I'm not advocating for this medication, I want anyone struggling with their mental health to get help whether it's through therapy, a doctor, or medication. I think it’s important to talk about not being okay, and getting the help you need to feel better. Just like any other body part, your mental health is just as important.
Take care of yourself, and speak up when you don’t know how. You don’t have to struggle alone.

Good for you! I have been on lexapro for a solid 20 years, therapy for about ten of them, and have finally accepted that I am probably a lexapro lifer. I lead a pretty normal life on lexapro and off lexapro I lead a miserable and abnormal life. After all this time I don't have any side effects aside from some intimacy issues, but I am also 40 and perimenopausal after being pregnant for much of my 30's, so it could very well be that too haha. Great vid.

Oh but if I forget a few doses I do get brain zaps, and if I titrate up or down (I may o between 10-40mg over the course of the year) I feel a bit icky for a few days. Attempted many times to come off them but my anxiety becomes uncontrollable when I get below 10mg.

I got a prescription , and it's been sitting on my desk for 3 days. Medications terrify me...ironically, I am anxious about taking it, lol. Why do I feel so confused about all this?! Hearing great outcomes gives me hope, though. I feel like I'm just trying to pull the band aid off, but I need to build momentum.

I take it in the morning, and the only thing I am noticing so far is I wake up around 2-3am and cannot go back to sleep for about 2 hours unless I take a Xanax then I will fall back to sleep within 30 minutes.

After one week and upping to 10mg yesterday, I already see changes. Small, but I see them. Yesterday I had a trigger and I didn't spiral into my dark, aggressive thoughts and my body didn't clench. My anxiety is very defensive and damaging to my body from all that negative thoughts and it was a miracle to me that I was able to rationalize and let go. After one f-ing week!! Yeah, why didn't I do this before? 😅 Can't wait to see more positive changes. 😇 As I'm writing, I'm about to go to work and I feel my stomach and my heart, but it's a little bit lighter than just few days ago. And it makes me hopefull this thing is going to make changes I need. I'm not capable to do it myself and I needed this help from this little pill. Who ever invented it, bless you, my man. 😁
