MX 5400 What Would Make A Good Counterweight

  • The focal point of today's video is the repurposing of an extremely heavy counterweight off of an old salvaged Baker forklift to fit the three point of a new Kubota MX 5400 tractor. The old forklift was a 3,000 pound two stage machine from the late 50's or early 60's. I have the original flathead Continental engine from the same forklift stored for future use as well.
    At any rate, heavy materials are used to make the adaption to fit the category 2 three point lift only to find near the end of the project what I built was not ergonomically compatible with the tractors lift. A few minutes of thought remedied the situation and will be explained right after the video ends ebruptly....because of data loss. I recorded an addendum with the explanation just this morning, the day of uploading this video.
    Enjoy the vid... #salvage, #Kubota, #welding

    That should work out well for you. I am like to save almost every thing.. Then when I do decide to get rid of it not long after that I dream up something and kick my self for tossing it out.. Can’t tell you how many times this has happened…

    Both rear tires are loaded but I forgot to swap my weight box from one tractor to the other.. You know exactly what happened.. hahahahah

    That's pretty much the way I sharpen bits.
    Lot's of practice over the years.
    I'm the same way with buying new for home use. I have but I try not to. At the auction I could buy a five gallon bucket of bits for what a single 1" bit with a #2 taper shank would cost new.
    I have problems when the battery goes dead the file doesn't close. Without the checksum on the file the computer can't verify that the file is good so it won't read it.
    There are ways to recover the file but after going through all the steps and spending several hours trying to recover the file, I figured out even if I was successful. Which was only about 3 out of 4 times I could just do what you did. Explaining what happened will get you by.
    If I think it is worth the time I will just reshoot parts and pieces so I could do the voice over while showing the locations and point out problems.
    Most of the time it is just, "I put in the oars and started rowing."😁 😎

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  3 місяці тому

      Oh I know. I've bought tons of bits for literally pennies on the dollar myself. Then last year a buddy had me help him with drilling a block on a '39 Chevy for adding an external oil filter. When finished he gave me a set of 31 out of 32 MT2/3 bits that were NOS. It was only missing the 1''. I think they started at 3/16 and had a few 64th's interspersed in the middle.
      Data loss is usually my fault. Actually all of it is. I couldn't re-do the video because of all the welding etc. and I'm sure the problem was having not pushed the button correctly. I've done that before. Its got a ridge around the button that's bit me in the butt before.
