I agree. I know there are a lot of issues these days with people not being able to take a bit of a joke, but this is just not appropriate. These 2 fighters are serious in what they are doing. Comments should not be lewd, and in reference to the fact that they are different sexes.
I used to watch a lot of street beefs but stopped a month or so ago. There was a scenario where a fighter got injured/KOed, they stopped the fight, and for like 2min they're screaming "MEDIC MEDIC MEDIC" while he was just lying there. That's so unprofessional and dangerous. It's an honour to be able to fight in a controlled setting where you can be reasonably safe and test yourself, and the fact that they didn't even have a medic just on the sidelines for quick access is gross and wrong. That referee was absolutely horrible and should never ever officiate a fight again. Kudos to these two fighters.

I love that you brought up the difference between a fair fight and an equal fight. Getting into watching sumo wrestling and watching no weight limits combat sports has been eye opening.
She has great distance judgment though, at 10:10 she walked straight through that punch and voided it without flinching, I'm not qualified to state facts here but that looked beautiful.

She came all this way, (which ain't cheap when considering flight, lodge, food, ect) and won with little damage taken. Props to her! But that ref's energy was like he placed a huge bet of money on her to win. The guy really didn't know how to fight, but was trying, so he was legit. From the vid, he did what came natural to him which was swinging wildly hoping and praying. Didn't seem out of shape either. If he had a great cornering or a different ref, I still think she would have still won. Would I like to see him grow and learn more? Sure do. Do I want her to be in another fight? Damn right!

Thank's for sharing this fight. The awesome part for me is that this a very achievable level of fighting skill. I don't want to take away the dedication and practice it took. But I think this can be inspiring, because it is not the highest professional level, but a level that is achievable for the average Jane.
This was significant for several reasons, but he literally ruined almost all of them. Like, I’m comfortable saying she was gonna win anyway, but a ref should never be yelling random instructions. I don’t even know why he said that. And then reducing the whole thing to genitals is worse than pointless. I don’t even wanna mention everything that irritated me because I don’t wanna get more heated, but you can tell he doesn’t understand or care what a ref, or even the hype man he acts like is supposed to do. He has no interest in boosting either fighters up, it really is just all about him. The best ending would be if the two fighters just jumped him. I’m just kidding of course, but this is now one of my least favorite people.

While biology absolutely is a major factor that probably accounts for most of how things shake up in a man vs woman scenario, I love that you also injected the nuance of how someone is raised. How we culturally view girls fighting more negatively than we do boys fighting. I know you didn't go super in depth on your personal opinion, but I appreciate that you mentioned and acknowledged that its more complicated than what someones dangly bits are. You don't always get that kind of nuance, and its appreciated.

As someone who learned martial arts (karate, judo) for a decade or so from when I was a teen, and am approaching fifty after several physical activities all the way to my late thirties, I find the attitudes toward women fighters really horrible. I didn't experience this when I trained. Not sure if it is cultural or just the world being nuts these days. I was obsessive about Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan and such, and boy, did I train. None of the women could beat me, so I sparred with the men - not like competitions - practice. Did I always "win"? Not a chance. Did I always lose? Might surprise UA-cam, but nope. I won almost a fourth of the fights I was in - not easy, but I'm stubborn. I had to work hard even when my opponents were basically phoning in their fight. But if we were to believe UA-cam, every time a man goes "men are stronger" it is like breaking news. Any woman who's fought will yawn. But there are no medals for being born male and great technique lets you get results with far less power, which a cunning fighter will back up with strategy for max leverage. Great technique can be trained. Also, personal opinion, women may have better endurance and pain tolerance, though they also end up receiving more pain, so it kind of helps rather than proves an advantage. But a few rounds in, I think it was much easier to beat the men. At least any wins I got happened after we'd been fighting for a while. Can't recall winning the first fight of the day, ever. Been decades, so this could be off. I was just a local hobbyist, but many of the women champions are great! This woman deserved better than the moron referee.
I think I've heard women do better in extremely long distance swimming so maybe an endurance advantage, but I'd also be willing to bet you just trained harder and for longer than your opponents so could fight harder and for longer too.
@@KingdomOfDimensionslol. I was pretty obsessed. I'm not so sure about harder and longer. I think the trick was different focus of training. Technique, for sure. I was fast, I was accurate, I had good balance but strength stuff, nope. I was sore and done long before them. lol. I trained to prevent/weaken hits and conditioning to take hits and keep going. You have to strategise to get around the strength gap. Get too close, too far, outside their guard on the non-dominant side, move fast, use kicks effectively, more sideways movements to tax balance, look to attack balance when they kick (if you're moving sideways to make them turn more, their kicks WILL be more unstable and less powerful unless they are really good - react in ways that tax balance - works superb in real life too), and of course, practice accurate kicks while turning yourself. Most people will practice going forward and back or sideways, but not turn 60 degrees and kick. Practice attacking in the middle of moving back - this happens a lot more with women-men than men-men or women-women. Being prepared for it never hurts - the person advancing is rarely expecting the person backing away to get aggressive, tricks to tire them out... hacks like that rather than strength. Tricks. Surprises. I always wished I could coach women on this, but in those days few women got into martial arts in our area, and the older I grew, the smaller that already small number got and it doesn't work like a quick training session - takes time. This stuff mainly works against men and probably not with highly trained fighters who will expect such things - with a woman, I could just rely on strength. Good to train strength, but if as a woman you're relying on strength to fight a man, you're already in trouble. Let them provide the strength and body weight. Be very strong in areas they don't tend to train as much. Just mentioning, given that you often comment on these things. If it helps anybody.

If you look up Rio Heroes and other vale tudo promotions from the 90's-00's, you will see more women vs men fights. In Rio Heroes case it was both the woman and the man being trained fighters, if I recall correctly the guy also lost for the same reason as this one: he wasn't aggressive enough.
Oh man, I just went and watched the Rio Heroes fight you mentioned. I couldn't finish it, from my completely untrained perspective, it seemed really clear that neither of them was actually fighting. They weren't even sparing, again, to my untrained eye. Watching her punch pushed me very deep into an unfortunate pool of cringe. I left after her "head butts". I didn't check, did they let the guys do that to each other, or were they real fights?

I see dudes all the time on social media who are so threatened by the idea that a woman might be able to beat them up that they honestly think an out of shape guy with zero training can beat a woman who is a combat sports athlete in a fair fight. To probably like 90% of people that's obviously ridiculous. Being an athlete, being in good shape, having combat sports training, those things all contribute to closing the gap. In this video it's clear that Stormborn is in better shape than Jake and better trained than he is. The only time Jake had an advantage was when he outmuscled her, but he didn't have enough skill to follow up.
Obviously wish we could get more content but there's probably stuff going on behind the scenes, most likely with UA-cam not paying people money. But keep up the good work, much love & respect, God Bless...

Thank's for sharing this fight. The awesome part for me is that this a very achievable level of fighting skill. I don't want to take away the dedication and practice it took. But I think this can be inspiring, because it is not the highest professional level, but a level that is achievable for the average Jane.

This was significant for several reasons, but he literally ruined almost all of them. Like, I’m comfortable saying she was gonna win anyway, but a ref should never be yelling random instructions. I don’t even know why he said that. And then reducing the whole thing to genitals is worse than pointless. I don’t even wanna mention everything that irritated me because I don’t wanna get more heated, but you can tell he doesn’t understand or care what a ref, or even the hype man he acts like is supposed to do. He has no interest in boosting either fighters up, it really is just all about him. The best ending would be if the two fighters just jumped him. I’m just kidding of course, but this is now one of my least favorite people.

I appreciate that you bring up the social and cultural factors when it comes to women in combat sports and women fighting. While biology absolutely is a major factor that probably accounts for most of how things shake up in a man vs woman scenario, I love that you also injected the nuance of how someone is raised. How we culturally view girls fighting more negatively than we do boys fighting. I know you didn't go super in depth on your personal opinion, but I appreciate that you mentioned and acknowledged that its more complicated than what someones dangly bits are. You don't always get that kind of nuance, and its appreciated.

As someone who learned martial arts (karate, judo) for a decade or so from when I was a teen, and am approaching fifty after several physical activities all the way to my late thirties, I find the attitudes toward women fighters really horrible. I didn't experience this when I trained. Not sure if it is cultural or just the world being nuts these days.
I was obsessive about Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan and such, and boy, did I train. None of the women could beat me, so I sparred with the men - not like competitions - practice. Did I always "win"? Not a chance. Did I always lose? Might surprise UA-cam, but nope. I won almost a fourth of the fights I was in - not easy, but I'm stubborn. I had to work hard even when my opponents were basically phoning in their fight. But if we were to believe UA-cam, every time a man goes "men are stronger" it is like breaking news. Any woman who's fought will yawn. But there are no medals for being born male and great technique lets you get results with far less power, which a cunning fighter will back up with strategy for max leverage. Great technique can be trained. Also, personal opinion, women may have better endurance and pain tolerance, though they also end up receiving more pain, so it kind of helps rather than proves an advantage. But a few rounds in, I think it was much easier to beat the men. At least any wins I got happened after we'd been fighting for a while. Can't recall winning the first fight of the day, ever. Been decades, so this could be off. I was just a local hobbyist, but many of the women champions are great!

I think I've heard women do better in extremely long distance swimming so maybe an endurance advantage, but I'd also be willing to bet you just trained harder and for longer than your opponents so could fight harder and for longer too.
@@KingdomOfDimensionslol. I was pretty obsessed. I'm not so sure about harder and longer. I think the trick was different focus of training. Technique, for sure. I was fast, I was accurate, I had good balance but strength stuff, nope. I was sore and done long before them. lol. I trained to prevent/weaken hits and conditioning to take hits and keep going. You have to strategise to get around the strength gap. Get too close, too far, outside their guard on the non-dominant side, move fast, use kicks effectively, more sideways movements to tax balance, look to attack balance when they kick (if you're moving sideways to make them turn more, their kicks WILL be more unstable and less powerful unless they are really good - react in ways that tax balance - works superb in real life too), and of course, practice accurate kicks while turning yourself. Most people will practice going forward and back or sideways, but not turn 60 degrees and kick. Practice attacking in the middle of moving back - this happens a lot more with women-men than men-men or women-women. Being prepared for it never hurts - the person advancing is rarely expecting the person backing away to get aggressive, tricks to tire them out... hacks like that rather than strength. Tricks. Surprises. I always wished I could coach women on this, but in those days few women got into martial arts in our area, and the older I grew, the smaller that already small number got and it doesn't work like a quick training session - takes time. This stuff mainly works against men and probably not with highly trained fighters who will expect such things - with a woman, I could just rely on strength. Good to train strength, but if as a woman you're relying on strength to fight a man, you're already in trouble. Let them provide the strength and body weight. Be very strong in areas they don't tend to train as much.

If you look up Rio Heroes and other vale tudo promotions from the 90's-00's, you will see more women vs men fights. In Rio Heroes case it was both the woman and the man being trained fighters, if I recall correctly the guy also lost for the same reason as this one: he wasn't aggressive enough.
Oh man, I just went and watched the Rio Heroes fight you mentioned. I couldn't finish it, from my completely untrained perspective, it seemed really clear that neither of them was actually fighting. They weren't even sparing, again, to my untrained eye. Watching her punch pushed me very deep into an unfortunate pool of cringe. I left after her "head butts". I didn't check, did they let the guys do that to each other, or were they real fights?
@@pocketlama Rio Heroes was very real, to be honest, way too real (watch the fight where one of the fighters gets tackled onto broken glasses for context). But yeah, many of their fights weren't the best.

I see dudes all the time on social media who are so threatened by the idea that a woman might be able to beat them up that they honestly think an out of shape guy with zero training can beat a woman who is a combat sports athlete in a fair fight. To probably like 90% of people that's obviously ridiculous. Being an athlete, being in good shape, having combat sports training, those things all contribute to closing the gap.
In this video it's clear that Stormborn is in better shape than Jake and better trained than he is. The only time Jake had an advantage was when he outmuscled her, but he didn't have enough skill to follow up.

Been watching Streetbeefs for the past few weeks. Reminds me of the early days of UFC, which is good and bad. Fun for the freakshow aspect but it feels like eventually someone will get seriously hurt considering the amateur quality and lack of proper care when it comes to fighter safety. The amount of potential CTE when these people aren't getting paid is wild.
