When he gets to THE PART of the song it's really hard not to shed a tear.
I remember this song coming out when I was in middle school, and I really liked it. Years later, while listening to it in high school, I finally had the epiphany of "Holy shit, this song is about taking his gf to get an abortion."
This song does an amazing job of really pointing out that, even if it is your best option, it still hurts. You still have to wake up every day and remember the choice. It doesn't take a side on abortion at all and, instead, rides that fine line down the middle, like few other songs are able to do.
"Can't you see? It's not me you're dying for?" That line hits me straight in the heart every time.
Always a song that brings a tear from my own eye due to my own similar experience.

The song Lime Tree by Bright Eyes is also from the man's perspective and has a similar tone. Really recommend it.
