Ford F250 / Raptor 6.2 Coil Spark Leakage - Corroded Coil On Plug Causing Ticking Noise

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 31 тра 2019
  • In this video I'm investigating a ticking sound on my 2011 Ford F250 that turned out to be a bad coil on plug module. Corrosion inside of the boots leading to the spark plug can cause physical damage to the COP module. This is becoming more common as these trucks are getting higher in mileage. I replaced the faulty coil on plug module with a genuine Ford unit. Part number is Motorcraft DG-526. I also picked up a coil boot replacement from rockauto - part number Standard Auto SPP139E.
The best price Ive found on the DG-526 is here amzn.to/2YDiTLE

I know this is 5years ago ... But if anyone is looking to change out your coil packs, Denso brand on Rockauto is an actual FoMoCo part. They just slap their sticker on the coils. I paid 60 bucks per coil ... Also, mine were getting corroded, mainly the pellet. So I went crazy with dielectric grease on all coil connections and inside the coils and especially the area where the pellet goes in. I have a 6.2L, I even greased up the spark plug wires ... It's been 2 and a half years now and it's been running excellent... Hope this helps anyone
    Great video!

I just had this same snapping sound out of no where. 2014 Ford Raptor with 138k miles that I have had since 8k miles. Love the truck and will have it a while longer for sure. I may replace them all since it’s a more known issue. Great to know about Amazon versus the dealer price for the same part. Thank you for your video!

Update: after a while it stopped do it all together. You have to love a self-healing truck 😂. It sat parked for 4 days and then started the issue with the coil pack. It’s probably a good idea to get a few incase the Raptor decides to unfix itself 😏.

When I took it to my local dealership the mechanic said this was a first for him. I described it as an arcing sound. After looking it over with a stethoscope he finally caught the spark arcing just like in your video. I got all new coils today and changed them out. So far so good. They were in a pack of 8 pretty cheap so we'll see. I replaced coils last year on a mazda g3 with generic coils. One immediately failed.

My 2017 f250 with only 52k got an engine light. Took it to ford and according to them it was the fuel pump. They replaced it under extended warranty. The engine light popped up again after a couple of days. With that said, this is now the 3rd time I had to get my truck to the dealership. It seems like they “realized” that the problem is with the coil packs.
    Clicking sound just like yours.

I just installed all 8 TRQ ignition coils($200 for all 8) on my 2014 f250 6.2 94k miles . Half my original coils where all crusty or white bottom about 3 of them were ok. Seemed to resolve the issue at first. After three weeks I still have the same two arcing coils on the engine on the drivers side. I wonder if the new aftermarket coils are not good quality or something else is to blame.

Same problem with my 2016 F250 6.2L. 48,000 miles. Took everything apart, cleaned it , put dielectric grease on everything. Problem came back within the month. I’d bet if I had looked closer there are small holes or cracks in the coil itself.

Problem with these coils only lasting 50k miles is due to the fact that they weren’t installed with enough anti corrosion connector grease. They say your not supposed to use very much of it, but you should grease these bad boys down pretty good. And they will last a long time. Just use more grease 😂

Great video, I was having the same ticking but I was unable to locate the suspect coil. I started pulling on the plug wires that control the plugs on the exhaust side, all are loose enough to pull off with one finger and one was completely disconnected still sitting in the hole. I have never seen plug wires with such a loose fit. Really questioning the idea of going with FoMoCo parts again, I am no mechanic but the thought of using the same parts that are causing the problem concerns me. I had to put it in 4 low and just let it creep forward at idle to disconnect the trailer.
