Mel Gibon said they couldn't put everything he did from his Medal of Honor citation because, "people wouldn't believe it." Jeez. Something so true and powerful no one would believe it.
What a fucking movie. My fucking god. If Andrew Garfield doesn't win MULTIPLE awards for this, it'll be fucking unreal. I really didn't like him as Spiderman, but after seeing this, fuck. Amazing performance.
Andrew Garfield no fue solamente Spiderman. You can see him in Silence (Martin Scorsese), 99 homes, The social Network, BOY A (for this he wins a BAFTA for Best actor), Never let me go, The red riding. He's great!!!! And his next movie will be "Breathe": Based on the true story of Robin (Garfield), a handsome, brilliant and adventurous man whose life takes a dramatic turn when polio leaves him paralyzed.
OompaLoompa211 He didn't win any awards because radical SJW's don't like Mel Gibson or Christianity. Andrew Garfield missed out on an absolutely deserved win for best actor because he's a typical white boy playing in a war movie. Which is utter bullshit.
ABSOLUTELY....PERFECT PERFORMANCE...i fully agree. By the way this is THE BEST MOVIE i've seen in ...easily ten years...not because there were not movies on theaters...but because NONE I LIKED TO SEE....but this one absolutely moved me ...and what's more after what i heard about the almost ten minutes standing ovation at Venice,...i turned crazy earlier in 2016....so,ABSOLUTELY AMAZING MOVIE,PERFECT. ....the oscars??...we all know that was a total Hollywood manipulated MAFIA.....we know this master piece was THE WINNER.
As a veteran I have so much respect for this man who saved so many lives without firing one single shot to protect himself. He relied on his faith and the support of his unit. Truly awesome story.
CPT America does exist...BUT... His rank was not Captain His rank was Private First Class He did not wield the shield of adamantium He wielded the shield of faith He did not say "I can do this all day" He said "Please Lord, help me get one more"
As an Atheist this scene completely changed my life. To see that faith is so much more than Church, believing and God. It gives you strength in the heart to do so many things and to survive all your trials and tribulations. I'm glad I saw this, it was this movie that inspired me to find faith and become a Christian and enlist as a an Army medic.
I was an atheist as well before. But now I'm leaning towards Christian. Through strong determination of keeping faith has gotten me thinking that there is a God. From the sounds of it, He was there to help Doss. Not only did it get me thinking about an idea for my book but also for myself. I still can't believe Doss saved seventy-five men.
Faith can move mountains, this scene is truly a remarkable example of it, just imagine the actual pain the Private would have been through... faith kept him going... Lord help me save one more
What a wonderful song, fits this scene perfectly. Desmund saved 75 people up there according to wikipedia, he also took determination to a whole new level. Respect.
my grandfather fought against the japanese and one of the most traumatic events that he has told us about was seing his friend's legs get blown off by a grenade, he ran to his friend and dragged him out he and a medic were there with him and while the medic was tying up his legs he pulled a gun from his holster and shot himself right in front of my grandfather, i was at the theater with him when we watched this and when desmond was dragging the people without legs around and stuff my grandfather keeped having like flashbacks and stuff because he would cringe but only when someone got dragged away without their legs, he actually had to leave the theater
I got chills during this scene. Such a good movie. It made me search his documentary I think it was titiled christian warrior or something like that, it was like an hour long but it covered a whole lotta stuff the movie left out like the number of people he saved in guam before okinawa. And when he prayed for his team none of them were touched. And when he was wounded as he was being carried away he saw another guy wounded, so he threw himself off of the stretcher to go help him and gave up his own stretcher and then was wounded again and managed to crawl back to the aid station by himself.
*Lord, please help me get one more* This is the ideal attitude for any Christian. the faith that you are willing to do what is right while acknowledging beforehand God's will before all else. And not asking for more than is appropriate.
it is "Please Lord help me get one more." things that are impossible to man are possible with God. witness statements said he did even more heroic events than this... watch his documentary
This scene teach me like you have no more energy to keep up... So he keeps going and praying for like he did every time. I feel like going down like tired and cant breath anymore I'll put this on and keep pushing my breaking point or I fight until I'm dead💪 1000% give it all you have
Whats even more incredible then what this man did is that he has always given 100% of the credit to God as the reason how. Completely selfless and thats so rare
Look, I am not a believer of Christianity, Islam or anything like that. but religion can do some damn beautiful things. Tell an atheist to do this, try and tell me he would do a quarter of what this guy did.
TeodrosKing I'm agnostic, and I would do the same because all these people are people like me who are living the joy of life. All these individuals are not just expendable cogs in a clock, they're all alive like me.
TeodrosKing You're right. In war, you are not guaranteed to survive and anything could kill you. As the arrogant cowardly man I am, I would save myself in this hellfire. But then, I would regret it a lot for leaving people to die.
Yeah, if you remember when the guy said to him "Just leave him, he won't make it back." To a guy who had lost his leg. I would have honestly stopped right there. Hell, by then or before that I would have been dead. But I certainly would love to believe I would do what he did and insist he comes down.
Religion did not accomplish what desmond doss did God is who he was praying to get one more live saved he was not saying please seven day adventists help me get one more, he was saying please Lord help me get one more.
I mean the filmmaking. The score is so cheesy and Mel Gibson went for Hollywood emotion at the expense of realism. For example, Andrew Garfield still manages to look attractive in the face of war, with a single strand of hair carefully out of place. There's also that courtroom monologue about saving lives that was extremely cheesy. Compare this to Tom Hanks's schoolteacher speech from Saving Private Ryan, and it's way more genuine. And the difference there doesn't come from their performances, because both actors were Oscar nominated for those roles.
I would agree with you,but the thing is these cheesy events actually happened.Well..except Andrew Garfields Perfect hair but I mean this is a movie after all.
thing is Romil, This is based on his memoirs, some scenes are over the top, but they are 98% accurate just slightly( and I mean slightly) done up a bit for drama, like the sled scene, he did use a sled and they were chased, but only four japanese were killed as the rest gave up pursui
When a Japanese grenade landed in the hole with him, Doss tried to kick it away, but the explosive blew and peppered his legs and back with 17 white-hot shrapnel wounds.
Y'all ever see that one comment of how they reported from the other side that there rifles had eyes on this man but multiple times the rifles and guns jammed God truly was watching over him that day.
I wish the medics in battlefield 1 would be like this. Players in battlefield 1 be a medic just because of the weapons. They just run past me like I'm not dead.
I like this movie, reason one because Andrew Garfield is in it and Omigod I love him so much like Peter Parker yes boi and reason 2 Desmond saved so many people because he believed god would help him.
Yet he couldn't save Gwen from falling .... should've asked the lord to help him then . This is a reference to the movie spider man please do not take this as a literal thought I don't care what you believe in , keep it to yourself and just smile if you ain't got nothing but negative things to say
Island Streams What kind of sense of humor do you have? What is funny about Desmond Doss risking his life to save these wounded soldiers? He went into a battle without a weapon and showed bravery in spades.
Mel Gibon said they couldn't put everything he did from his Medal of Honor citation because, "people wouldn't believe it." Jeez. Something so true and powerful no one would believe it.

And Andrew Garfield in Silence es absolutely brilliant!!!!
ABSOLUTELY....PERFECT PERFORMANCE...i fully agree. By the way this is THE BEST MOVIE i've seen in ...easily ten years...not because there were not movies on theaters...but because NONE I LIKED TO SEE....but this one absolutely moved me ...and what's more after what i heard about the almost ten minutes standing ovation at Venice,...i turned crazy earlier in 2016....so,ABSOLUTELY AMAZING MOVIE,PERFECT.
....the oscars??...we all know that was a total Hollywood manipulated MAFIA.....we know this master piece was THE WINNER.
because he didnt acted anything like this in those movies!
Andrew Garfield absolutely shined as an actor in this movie. Simply stunning.
I was a sobbing mess during this scene in the theatre.

As a veteran I have so much respect for this man who saved so many lives without firing one single shot to protect himself. He relied on his faith and the support of his unit. Truly awesome story.
Thank you for your service.
CPT America does exist...BUT...

What a wonderful song, fits this scene perfectly. Desmund saved 75 people up there according to wikipedia, he also took determination to a whole new level. Respect.
VtotheK his officials said he saved 100 people but he insisted they were just 50. So the movie went for something between in
Dudes, I hope I'm not the only one that was shedding some hard ass tears during this scene.
Stannis The Mannis right here with you
Same
The most touching scene.
75 lives saved with no gun.
Desmond Doss was a true hero.
Yes, They were all true heroes.
This had me choking up.
my grandfather fought against the japanese and one of the most traumatic events that he has told us about was seing his friend's legs get blown off by a grenade, he ran to his friend and dragged him out he and a medic were there with him and while the medic was tying up his legs he pulled a gun from his holster and shot himself right in front of my grandfather, i was at the theater with him when we watched this and when desmond was dragging the people without legs around and stuff my grandfather keeped having like flashbacks and stuff because he would cringe but only when someone got dragged away without their legs, he actually had to leave the theater
Another one. And another one. No. Another two.
I got chills during this scene. Such a good movie. This impacted so many people
This film made me cry, Desmond Doss is a true hero, a true hero throughout the world for what he did, saving 75 lives like that, he is a hero.
This guy deserves 2 MEDAL OF HONORS
um, more like 75
Give him all of them
I loved this movie and this scene made me cry and i couldn't believe that he did all that without a weapon
So powerful
I love that he doesn't differentiate between US soldiers and Japanese soldiers. He helps all.
Please do not compare this amazing film to battlefield. Battlefield is good, but this movie is amazing and easily the best film I have ever seen.
Jacqueline Poole I think they’re joking :/
This hero has my deepest admiration and respect. He went about his business - saving both allied - and enemy life, without a trace of fear.
One of the greatest scenes of all time. Also im not a religious person and that was one inspiring ass line.
This scene teach me like you have no more energy to keep up... So he keeps going and praying for like he did every time. I feel like going down like tired and cant breath anymore I'll put this on and keep pushing my breaking point or I fight until I'm dead💪
1000% give it all you have
amazing
True courage is knowing not when to take a life, but when to spare one.
-J.R.R Tolkien
This applies to him so well.
I still cannot believe he didn't win the Best Actor Award.

No disrespect, but in under these circumstances I'd heavily doubt it.
TeodrosKing
You're right.
In war, you are not guaranteed to survive and anything could kill you.
As the arrogant cowardly man I am, I would save myself in this hellfire.

The way to not cry while watching this is to cry so much beforehand that you need to catch up.
What Desmond would say on Christmas: *One more person, just one more..*
Great rewatch for Memorial Day weekend :)
The life of a medic "please let me save this life, just one more"
This really needs to be brightened.

*CHRIST IS THE BREAD OF LIFE. THROUGH HIM, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. HE IS THE ARMOR, HE IS THE LIGHT THAT SHOWS THE WAY. HE IS THE LIGHT.*
This movie is definitely gonna show its age over time.
