    Honestly what I'd love to see is you two have a "beginner's DM guide" where you take products you give the thumbs up to and split it into budget ranges. Basically make the assumption someone just bought the books and what is the best products for an addition $50, $100, & $150 with all the pros and cons of each "tier"

      The Loke 2 sided battle maps are perfect. 4 part fold out - like typical board games. THey fold flat and provide a canvas to add the Dungeoncraft, flip tiles for reincarnated tiles. I have 2 to make a large play area. I store my DungonCraft in document protectors in a binder.

    You can get wrapping paper that's backed with 1" grid. And there are places with industrial laminating machines that do work for teachers. They'll often laminate anything you want for stupidly cheap. So for say a 2 dollar roll of paper and a 5 dollar lamination you could have a 25' x 4' laminated surface to play on. Or 2 10 x 4's and a 5 x 4 as well. You can dry erase on it. It's cheap as hell. Relatively durable. Just a solid to have a cheap game matt on hand.

      We agree 100%. It just doesn't make sense that the tiles pretty much make the exact same area as the fold out playing surface. It's such a bizarre choice. No clue how it made it through quality control!

    Unless you're okay just laying those unique tiles out randomly, it feels like a lot of setup time to get the right shapes in the right places for the map you want. Faster to draw a quick layout on a blank mat.
    Buying pads of giant gridded paper is an option to have multiple maps drawn out ahead of time when you're not sure where the party will go, and they're reasonably priced at any office supply store and can be found in the same grid size.

    First time to your YT space. Great video, and really enjoyable breakdown of products in a theme. I loved how honest you were, and how practical your perspective was. I think it would be very popular with RPG players (I only play Pathfinder 2e, for example). One bit of value that I see in the D&D Campaign Case is the case itself. It becomes a great organizer with flare and it seems a little 'up-scale' as a carrying box. But the rest I agree with; some of it was just plain weird like having the square mat be the same two surfaces as the linkable tiles. Again, great job! Subscribed!

    Thanks for the review. Best part is the competitive products.
    I think the concept is solid...some beefy interlocking tiles, clings so you can prep the rooms put them in the case and break them out quickly at game time, clings also lay flat so minis don't tip at all and can move for a dynamic dungeon.
    I think marketing dropped the ball. Razor strategy might have worked better. Lower price point and release some supplemental packs of clings or an adventure that included the creatures and terrain needed at launch and the value proposition would be more clear.
    As is, thanks for saving me some money!

    I actually have the 3 core sets of dungeon tiles for 4th edition, then got the 3 reincarnated sets and..... you can't tell me they didn't intend for people to do that. The punched out tiles from each of the matching sets is a PERFECT fit to a single box, and once the slipcovers are off, the actual storage boxes are identical from the original releases and the reincarnated sets, and there's actually a lot of differences between the old and new versions. So..... yeah, I spent about $100 in total between the old sets and new sets, but it's insane what I can make with them all. As a test one time actually, I took just the 2 city sets and built an entire town that covered my table. Market, multiple buildings, a canal running through town with bridges going over it.... the works! It's honestly sad to see how bad this new version is compared to the old boxes of cardboard.

    I have a couple of the Dungeon Craft ones , lol ya it took me awhile to cut it all out! I love that they are super colorful, but being so glossy it can be hard for players to see what they are. I also bought a ton of Fantasy World Creator, I thought I would love it but they are to black and white. Also I had bought all the D&D games for the minis and it comes with dungeon tiles you could use also. I always have my battlemats out on my table so they are flat (we use these alot). When possible I like to put on the table a few small room/encounters with all the dressing too so they look good, not all the rooms are for fights, this way it gives the players something to look at during the game and I dont have to draw out or build the whole dungeon.

    whats even funnier about the dungeon tiles reincarnated, is it's a carry over from 4th edition XD. Hell, if you could get a hold of those tilesets, you'd probably be even *more* impressed.

    • @BasicLiches
      @BasicLiches  2 роки тому +1

      Exactly...it's crazy how they haven't come up with a better solution in over 15 years! At this point they should just re-release the rest of the 4th edition tile sets.

    The Reincarnated set is just reprints of the older Dungeon Tile sets from 2006. That said in the 16 or so years sense they came out I only had one or two pieces go bad, spills at the game table happens. I have always said if they wanted to improve on them just make some of them interlocking and make the surface usable with markers. I don't see much use for bigger, all the same shape tiles.

    • @BasicLiches
      @BasicLiches  2 роки тому +1

      It's kind of sad that they haven't come up with a better solution since 2006. Also, they're still using the same art assets. We understand why the reincarnated tiles have the same 4th edition art...but that's no excuse for the Terrain Case. It's supposed to be a brand new/premium product! Maybe we'll get some interlocking tiles with One DnD! Thanks for watching and for dropping us a comment.

      @@BasicLiches I wouldn't hold my breath. Seems their virtual tabletop is what they are putting their effort into. What Wizards should do is focus on things that make the mobile DM Lives better with their already existing products. Like for example maybe have something a kin to a small parts bin. A backpack or side bag to hull around a book or two and a tablet. I am rather handy with a sewing machine to make my own bag and power tools to mod a small parts bin to fit my needs but not everyone is so blessed.

    The dungeon tiles reincarnated are pretty solid but the prob is that you need 2-4 sets to actually make something that makes sense. They give you roughly half of what you need. The other problem is that they are shiny. Any well lit environment will produce glare on the tiles. The variety is great but grab two boxes or you will find yourself pulling your hair out trying to create what you want.

    • @BasicLiches
      @BasicLiches  2 роки тому

      They can't be shinier or glossier than the tiles included in the Campaign Case Terrain lol. Those things are practically reflective! Grabbing multiple copies/sets of the Dungeon Tiles is probably a better idea than the campaign case. Thanks so much for watching! Is your avatar from the movie "31"? Wolf just watched that not too long ago!

    Why would you want the terrain clings to be opaque?? With the way they are now, they blend into the surroundings. Having white or black space around the edges and filling in gaps would look TERRIBLE. Honestly, just picturing that in my head looks cheap.
    I do agree that they could have used more variety in the clings and tiles themselves. And the tiles don't even lock onto the large map if you needed it to for a huge area, they would look weird sitting next to each other if you needed to use both tile types.
    I liked this video more than the Creature case video, keep it up!

    • @BasicLiches
      @BasicLiches  2 роки тому +1

      They need to do something with the terrain clings, because they look very washed out the minute you attach them. Perhaps not opaque, but they certainly need to tweak the colors on them. We found them tremendously unsatisfying once they were placed on the tiles. In dim lighting, they would be very hard to see. They should sort of POP and be noticeable to everyone at the table. Thanks for taking the time to drop a comment John. We always appreciate it!

  • @Pr0pheT77
    @Pr0pheT77 2 роки тому +1

    I believe that the tiles are not compatible with adventuring system tiles. That was a really lost chance. They could expand the tiles of the castle ravenloft, ashardalon etc boxes and the possibilities could be endless.

    • @BasicLiches
      @BasicLiches  2 роки тому

      Tying them into those boardgames that DMs probably own would make too much sense lol. It seems like they wanted to create these two crates as a stand-alone ULTIMATE SOLUTION. They missed the mark pretty badly!

    Really appreciate the thorough breakdown, guys. Any thoughts about whether you could use wet or dry erase markers on the Dungeon Tiles Reincarnated? Our group was thinking about buying both this and Dungeon Craft (for the clings) for our DM for Christmas. Or do you think the tiles function so well you really wouldn't need markers? Thanks!

    Dnd wise some of best starter sets for dm seem to be ashardalon/ravenholm/legend of drizzt board games. They all come with decent ammount of (mind you non-marker-compatible) tiles and minis plus some extra tokens you can repurpose for around 50-60 bucks. For beginner as far as im concerned they are far better deal.
