Do not let the bright colors and cheerful aesthetic fool you. Changeling: the Dreaming is every bit worthy of being part of the World of Darkness franchise. It is a game about the existential dread of losing your innocence, your spark of creativity. The threat of your experiences in the world transforming you from somebody with hopes, dreams and aspirations, into a person who is cold, cynical, and unable to believe in anything that can not be scientifically validated. Changeling the Dreaming is, in my opinion the most depressing game in the WoD line, which is also why it holds the place as my favorite game in the WoD line!
The part of becoming cold and cynical seems... bad, i guess? But... whats the problem with not believing in anything that can't be scientifically validated? Isn't that just... being logical?
@@lucaslima33 Because it kills humanity's capacity for imagination, creativity and expression. The death of the Dreaming will effectively turn humanity into a bunch of Vulcans, utterly incapable of having a single emotionally driven thought in their heads. Instead becoming a bunch of cold, logic driven beings, who only place stock in hard facts and secular rationalism. Yes, they would probably be a lot more productive and grounded in reality, but it would be a stale, dreary existence.
@@lucaslima33 You are missing the entire point of the setting. The bane of the fae, like vampires have the Beast... is banality. Banality is the thing that is equivalent to losing humanity in VTM, or turning to your shadow in Oblivion. Both have *deep* metaphorical meaning within the setting, and about society at large, because, yes, RPGs are written about the world as writers see it. Shocker. The loss of creativity, the loss of youthful nativity and innocence, is *deeply* depressing for anyone who has past the veil of it starting to happen. Especially those of us who are creative, who want to hold onto hope for something. To speak more broadly on World of Darkness as a whole, there's a reason why the antagonist (NOT Villain, that is a matter of perspective and a term that can only be such) is the Technocracy (for a good few of the settings at least.) The world is getting more and more connected, more and more ruled by rules and systems, but... that isn't always a good thing. Especially when those who are setting those rules and system have a deep disdain for the things that they are uprooting to do it. Couldn't be relevant at all to the Technocracy, not at all, especially with how it relates to the things that go bump in the night and mages.
My GM has been running a campaign where we jump between different groups of characters, each group is a different splat in the World of Darkness. We started with vampire and now we've moved on to changeling which I knew nothing about until just a few weeks ago. This is very quickly becoming a favorite of mine though, I almost don't wanna go back to my vampire anymore!
I don't have any system suggestions, but a challenge suggestion. Try to create the same characters archetype or concept in the various systems you've reviewed so far. Might be an interesting challenge or just frustratingly futile, depending on the system.
Aaah yes This works remarkably poorly in wraithe (not that I'd ever find a group to play the saddest white wolf setting, but still) I might consider it tho, got nothing better to do
I'd say mermaids are canon in every game I've ever run, Call of Cthulhu, All Flesh Must be Eaten, everything. The players just never bothered checking in the ocean.
In the setting you have Gangrel Mermaids, Weremermaids, actual Mermaids, Mage Mermaids, Cyber-Mermaids, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were demonic mermaids, mummy mermaids and ghost mermaids.
I’m actually super interested in playing this game now because I didn’t think there were mermaids in the WoD and I LOVE mermaids. I was looking into the fan game Siren: The Drowning and thought it was pretty good, but this one is also super viable for me now. Thanks for making me aware of this!
Every time a Pooka is asked a question, they must answer with a lie, or else they risk acquiring banality. Also, they can only shapeshift when nobody is watching them.
Well that's something I haven't seen a game based on before. Personally I've always thought Steam Powered Giraffe could be an awesome basis for a game.
@@zigmenthotep well they would fit right in to the setting, automatons are a thing the players can be, though the one expansion book has expanded rules for them.
Anything with the faeries, they go: Grumpin' ain't easy (Grumpin' ain't eeeeee-zyyyyyy) Twelve, thirteen, Childer's your age Fourteen-fifteen, Wilder on the stage Grumpin' ain't easy (Grumpin' ain't eeeeee-zyyyyyy)
Yeah, I know someone who's really into it, but never bothered looking into it myself since I'm more amused by the range of "VTM, but some other kind of monster" games.
It was nice for throwing together a quick NPC however a lot needed to be explained with what things actually were on the character sheet Instead of just saying I'm throwing X amount of dots in this and x dots in that. I do not recommend this video for someone who's starting to learn the system
I’ve always liked that cover...
Right?
I really don't get the video slamming the cover like that. What the heck?

@lucaslima33 The existence of Changeling is undeniable in Wod
I love that being a Hagfish somehow boosts your appearance.

I’d say mermaids are also cannon in my Chronicles so to break that somberness of the original setting an instead add a bit of light! :)

You are the only reason I could find the mermaid book for my wife thanks
Glad to help spread the knowledge of mermaids being canon in the World of Darkness
@@zigmenthotep much appreciated my wife's favorite creatures right here
This channel will be on Top one day!
Well for the time being I'd be happy with the middle.
I feel that something is missing..
"That is so Fetch."
"Stop trying to make Fetch a thing."
There it is. If you know, you get it.
I've never heard of this game, but it seems so odd and interesting. I'm gonna have to try and find the books now
Abney park's Airship Pirates! its the best licensed system I have seen in over a decade in this hobby.

They don't really care unless they're real, or presented in a sexual context. The specifics are kinda weird.
im in these comments!!!
also, you're a beautiful hagfish
Someone really likes first edition.
It is: the booba episode
thank you
Wonder what the rokea think of mermaids?
It might actually say in the book, I haven't really read the entire thing (got distracted by mermaids).
Thanks you!
Would you ever do a changeling the lost character creation?
Probably, I kinda want to be done with World of Darkness before I move on to Chronicle of Darkness. So after Mage, Mummy, and possibly Hunter.
@@zigmenthotep awesome. I always kinda don't get how to fill in the contract sheet.
Pls do Changeling the Lost!
so close... so close to Changeling the Lost...
Meremaids in most mythologies are evil bastards so I like you play one.
Have you heard of exalted? It's by the same people as changling and vampire.

Booba
Shut your mouth! The cover of this book and all the art in it is exceedingly beautiful 😅
I loved the idea of this game and don't really have any interest in Vampire, will I lose anything for playing it instead of vampire?
Other than Hunter, the World of Darkness aren't connected in a way that would have a meaningful impact on the average player.
Does this make him a scaly or a furry?
Is there a particular reason you didn't use the 20th anniversary edition?
I've been using the first edition for all these videos since they contain the least content.
