I never understood why sum ppl try to tarnish Aaliyah's name based on gossip. Even if Aaliyah got down , so what the girl was 22 in her prime , and having fun. At least she had a career on the up and up. Most ppl still living off their parents at that age with no direction.

I agree but I think it's because her mom, her uncle, R Kelly, and Damon Dash... it's just a lot of sexual stuff going on with her way before she was 22. Plus Jay Z (especially back then) didn't have the best reputation either. I don't think they should trash anybody, she has passed so let her rest in peace. It doesn't matter, let her music be her true legacy.

I think the main issue is when people talk about her innocence is due to the fact we’re not used to a celebrity of Aaliyah’s caliber that treated everyone she met with respect and made to feel they were not below her. As someone else said in the comments, she was private she never claimed to be anything else but herself. Even when people tried to come for her for not writing her songs she literally said she had writers she was more than transparent about that. Tell me how many artists in todays world are so open about having writers I’ll wait.
That’s it, Aaliyah’s so called “innocence” stemmed from the fact she was a sweet person who treated those around her well. The narrative that she was fake nice, as though she was a saccharine, cookie cutter artist with a nice girl image only, is a recent revision of history.
It’s literally based on nothing of substance.., no evidence whatsoever. Today it seems like all it takes is a misinformation based Twitter “Hot Take” from a Gen Z’er who wasn’t even alive at the time, to go viral and it’s then treated as factual information thereafter🤦🏽♂️
Aaliyah’s public image was edgy, smooth and subtly sexy. This began in AANBAN (independent of the mess involving You Know Who) and remained all the way through to the Red Album. Brandy, Britney, Beyoncé and early Xtina had those “America Sweetheart” problems, not Aaliyah💯
I don’t care who “hit it first”, she died in a very tragic accident and her family, friends and fans loved her. I appreciate the focus on her contributions to the entertainment world and that’s all that matters. She is greatly missed!

I hate when people say, “She acted innocent.” No, she didn't want us in her business. Aaliyah did not seem conservative with her sex appeal or singing sexually charged songs. So, to me, that says she did not act innocent she was just private. She was just herself.

That 4.0 GPA thing is hard to do, she still gets my props to this day. In terms of the discussion, looks and having the IT factor played a major role in scrutiny over her love life. If she was unattractive by society standards, along with making major noise in the industry at such a young age, no one would/would've cared.

My unpopular opinion is this: Although Jay Z and Aaliyah had a tight bond before her passing, I can’t look over the fact that he worked with her abuser. People in the industry keep saying how much they miss her, while still aligning themselves with a predator. It’s weird..

Thank you for making so many videos on Aaliyah, it’s nice to still hear about her in 2022! She was such a beautiful talented lady and her passing was so tragic, I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news as a young teen. Dame dash confessed in a interview that Aaliyah only saw Jay as a friend and that when He(Dame)started dating Aaliyah she made him wait a long time before they were intimate(6months). But yeah, I feel like things like this will never change, a lot of people will continue to do this with a lot of artists in the music industry. The biggest one right now imo is the "rumored" relationship with Chloe Bailey and the rapper Gunna. It feels like fans love to already think these artists are having affairs on the low, when really we don't know the full contexts or details about her relationship.
I appreciate the fact that Aaliyah remained mostly private throughout her career, whereas most artists nowadays are starting to become lil bit too open. Luckily Bey is one of the few artists left to be completely private.

Aaliyah always been very secretive about her dating life but I never believed that gossip about Jay-Z, or Ginuwine or DMX. She was beautiful and a lot of her male friends were in love with her even Timberland. Great video T! It irks me that people still believe and spread misinformation about Aaliyah & Jay-Z. I wish people with major influence who speak on this topic would be more responsible with their messages. Jaguar Wright is a perfect example of this. I've watched two recent videos with her flat-out saying Liyah was in a sexual relationship with both Jay and R. Kelly. Any true Aaliyah fan knows that is untrue. The whole male & female friendship I very rare. My best friend (now lover) and I were great friends when we first met in college. A lot of people thought we were together, but we said no we're just friends. My mother and his mother said in this sad world, a man and a woman can't be friends.
The media always make up some story. Including these stan and fan pages feed into it. Not everyone has to be in your relationship business. Whatever is going on between a couple is their business. I'm glad Aaliyah kept her romantic relationships to herself.

What both struck and stood out to me when I was younger, was that Aaliyah never did that self-deprecating thing a lot of people (both celebrities and regular) do. She was always publicly confident in her abilities as a singer | performer, as well as in her burgeoning sensuality | sex appeal.
She wasn’t salacious with it but also never downplayed it. Eg. Other stars typically reject the idea of themselves as a sex symbol (even if it makes no sense re: their image), whereas Aaliyah was always very at ease to the point of agreement, with the idea of herself as a sexy young lady in tune with her sensual self. Whether that involved a sex life or not was none of our business and still isn’t💯
What was different with Aaliyah though is while she teased and hinted at it, she kept the details, as well as the source of her sexual confidence private, believing the private expression of that part of her life were her business alone. The furore of the R Kelly situation likely played a massive part in that. Having that much attention on something so personal (truth be damned), so young was a trauma in itself.
I’d like to believe drawing the velvet rope between the public and her romantic life in the assured confident way she did in the years that followed was how she healed and took charge of that. That said, although she never publicly claimed Damon, she didn’t hide him either. He was like an industry secret that everyone knew about behind the scenes.
It would’ve been interesting to see how she might’ve navigated her relationships as the years went on had she not passed. Would she have become more open or stuck to her guns until marriage? Or would she have become even more extreme, fans finding out years after the fact about a whole secret husband, kids and grandchildren?😭
Interviewers seemed to understand the reasons behind Aaliyah’s public mystery and learned not to go there with her i.e. Angie Martinez Interview. For example, it’s obvious Angie knows about Dame in that interview and could’ve blurted it out Wendy-style had she been less respectful but instead she chose not to cross Aaliyah’s unspoken boundary much to her clear relief. It’s a funny moment tbh.

I really don't understand why fans are so invested in the private lives of celebrities. Honestly, what does it do for them? I can only imagine how irritating it must be for the celebrities after a while.
A person's private life is just that: private. I don't care who is dating who. That's THEIR business. What I personally _really_ care about is the art they make. I fell in love with Aaliyah's music and artistry. That's what I remember her for. I didn't know a thing about her life until a few years after she passed - only because I watched the DVD that was included in the _Ultimate Aaliyah_ compilation.
Hell, even in high school I didn't pay any heed to rumours and gossip about others (celebrity or not) because I know from experience (I myself have been the subject or tons of the most ridiculous rumours) that 95% of rumours are made up. Conjecture. And whats more: The broken telephone is real.
