This video was such a revolution! It was in constant rotation on MTV in 1986. I’ve seen it a million times. The one and only time I ever did ecstasy, we ended up watching MTV at the end of the night and this came on. I never laughed so hard in my life when those chickens were dancing! If you want to see a video that took months to make, check out “Take on Me” by A-Ha from 1985!
LORD doesn`t every pretty lady want a sledgehammer they can call on or at least that was what Peter took such extreme cinematic lengths in explaining & along with his imagination IMHO the best of the 70s that meandered into the 80s MTV scene...we couldn`t agree more with your take on the whole affair, SO keep on rockin the reactions & giddyup A DOSE OF JOY
I really love how you enjoy videos all the way through and don't stop them every second - please review Queens I want to break free, that would be fun to see you do
If you've ever seen Wallace and Grommet or Shaun the Sheep or Chicken Run, this is pretty much the first work by the people that made those films. It was the most played video on MTV.
When Peter was on MTV being interviewed by Martha Quinn, she came back from the following commercial break blushing - Peter told her what "sledgehammer" was a reference to.
Great video. Great song. Peter Gabriel is a creative force. Something tells me that there may be several intended meanings for 'Sledgehammer'. The opening sequence gives us a hint. Sexual Innuendo? Oh, Yeah.
Hey Joy. 🤗 It's nice to see you back in the game! Ya know, I been pretty beat up lately with some cancer problems. But know this......re-watching some of your older stuff helped me get through some rough stuff. I'm glad you're out there! Respect 😇🤩🌹✌️
Yeah it could be interpreted about holding his partner down and being there for them. It's also has a sexual element to it as you could see with the metaphors with the roller-coaster, steam train, bumper cars, and honeybee reference.
BTW, if your up for suggestions, you will likely get mind-blown by Peter Gabriel, Secret World Tour, "In Your Eyes." I know you like live concert footage, that one is pretty and EPIC! 🌹☺️😁🌹!
A decent British art school boy suddenly climbing the charts with a song about penetration. Who would've guessed? (As for suggestions, I'd love to see you react to Amanda Palmer. Any song, really, but "Astronaut" might be a good start.)
One of the best baselines all time
was a good time to be alive - these vids were what us teens played to annoy our parents ;)
The amount of work that went into to this video is wild.

First big job by Aardman Animation who do Wallace & Grommit :)
I love this reaction so much. We danced to it, we sang along to it and loved the video.
We didn’t realize that the song was all about sex.

Thank you.
Please listen to Emmylou Harris; "Deeper Well" from her 1995 album "Wrecking Ball" is a personal favourite.
