3:08 - 3:35 Is probably my favorite part to play of any Meshuggah song. The flow and groove is so satisfying that sometimes i loop it and play just that bit for 25-30 minutes.
Yeah I love that part. The Nothing album has so many great grooves, I wish more recent Meshuggah stuff had that kind of lazy yet energetic groove and the more natural instrument sound from Nothing.
This is unbelieveable, I don't even drum but I'm pretty sure that rhythmically, this is one of the hardest songs on the planet. I'm not sure if people appreciate just how precise you have to be with this song - if you're not EXACTLY on time, the song will sound like sh*t because it is so syncopated. This is incredible man, amazing job.
My transcript is not dumbed down. The version that I have available on my website is what I use to read and learn the song myself. In drum notation you very rarely see ghosts etc. Ghost notes and especially the 8th notes on the left foot are an optional addition the drummers add for feel etc to drumming and should be somewhat automatic so I do not need to write all of that in. It will also make the part a lot messier and harder to read.
I have some connection with 'Shuggah and I am most def going to urge them to play Spasm live. It's an awesome pievce of dark, sinister fucking groove. It is the song that made me look deeper into the wicked minds of Meshuggah. Great cover man!
I remember that one day I was so in the mood for this track that it was playing for about 24 hours straight on repeat. Listening to it now feels like breathing, subconscious and fucken amazing 🦾🤖
Add an 18" floor tom and the auxillary hithats that we've seen in earlier videos to the setup, and the perfectness of the kit would be impossible to explain using the human vocabulary. Friggin awesome cover, Troy is probably one of, if not THE best drummer on UA-cam.
Your covers are too almost too good. It's on another level that all other youtube drum covers. Your playing makes me look bad. The abilty to combine feel and technicality is a very hard thing to achieve but here I am watching a flawless Meshuggah cover by Whrightdrums. MAD PROPS!
Completely agree with this guy here. Imagine a cover of "I" by you on youtube. I'm pretty sure a large amount of us Meshuggah fans would probably die or start kicking everything over in pure raging happiness. DO IT.
Man, is an absolute pleasure to watch you play. You're always so profoundly focused into your rhythm that rhythm itself seems to tremble into its own axis. You're definitely an inspiration to keep playing and understanding music.
Perfect cover, sir. Outstanding. Couldn't agree more with your feelings on this song as set out in your description. Some of their very best syncopated grooves, characteristically off kilter but also with a wonderful swing to it somehow, and yeah, THAT snare solo. Fantastic!
The main 'issues' with this track is the bloody tempo and then the quick 'kick-snare' part of the intro and verse that falls right before the hi-hat accent. That part can really screw you up ^^ But the snare solo...oh man! When you get it right is just feels like heaven :-) Can't wait to get my own version up, once my studio is done. Excellent work man!
To level of control you posses with your hands is phenomenal... I need to practice sooooo much more... Your ghost notes are fucking perfect. Im super jealous of your skill level.
Awesome work Troy, there's a roll you missed at around 0.47 secs, where your on the high tom. Not that it matters greatly. Your videos are always a pleasure to watch, thankyou.
this video has only been up for less than a day and we already cant help but argue. i think this was sick, loving the snare throughout the whole song. id like a video briefing whats going on exactly. what polyrythms are being used and break it down a little.
All of your covers are amazing.... getting to the point where with guys like you out there why do I even bother hahaha. Can't see myself ever getting near that level... Great job again!
people who complain about newer meshuggah (Nothing - present) not being complex enough need to get their heads out of the sand. the speed that's not always there anymore has been replaced with technique and groove and that's what keeps Meshuggah on a completely different level than all metal bands
Tomas is a terrifying drummer but you kill it. Andy James is without a band right now, you should look him up. The two of you together would be insane. Yo!
Thats mad impressive dude. The thing that impressed me the most was you being able to keep a steady pace on the hats with your foot while doing intricate kick patterns, as well as your hands..... Fuck man... Coordination at its best.
yes most opportunities for playing ghost notes lie in between the right hand.. ghost notes aren't limited to just single strokes on the left tho... i actually play quite a lot of doubles in this song

how do you loop it? plssssss i want to do da sameee
Yeah I love that part. The Nothing album has so many great grooves, I wish more recent Meshuggah stuff had that kind of lazy yet energetic groove and the more natural instrument sound from Nothing.
@@ericluque6573 drop the song in a DAW and use the loop tool on which ever DAW you use :)
NOTHING is definitely the grooviest Meshuggah's album, Thomas Haake is a fucking machine
One of the best sections in their entire discography. Just nasty

Believe it or not but besides that awesome snare drum solo, this is actually one of their easier songs!
no actually this is one of the easiest meshuggah songs to play on the drums
My transcript is not dumbed down. The version that I have available on my website is what I use to read and learn the song myself. Do you already make an "I" drum cover?? If not, you should, you rock dude!!
+Rafael B. Yes, It's the only way to beat the all mighty Tomas Haake.
In the words ot Tomas Haake himself, "No one kows how I goes"
Congratulations bro! It's really inspiring to watch you playing!
Olha o Betão aí!!!!
Amazing how much it costs to get things that sound good when you hit them with a stick.
Such a great player man...2:57 I just laughed at how complex that part is. Awesome job!
I have some connection with 'Shuggah and I am most def going to urge them to play Spasm live. It's an awesome pievce of dark, sinister fucking groove. It is the song that made me look deeper into the wicked minds of Meshuggah. Great cover man!

As some one who's listened to this song far too many times- every note was perfect dude
Thanks mate. I've been playing for about 15 years
I love the fills you do with the Cymbals :O
SO glad your ghost notes are finally audible. i could never hear them thangs before!
That part at 2:40 always drives me crazy,. So great man!!!
Add an 18" floor tom and the auxillary hithats that we've seen in earlier videos to the setup, and the perfectness of the kit would be impossible to explain using the human vocabulary.
Friggin awesome cover, Troy is probably one of, if not THE best drummer on UA-cam.
nailed the snare solo. NAILED IT!
Still my favorite cover you’ve done so far. To say fucking phenominal would be an insult.
My favourite part 2:40
you have the best drum covers on youtube, period.
Your covers are too almost too good. It's on another level that all other youtube drum covers. Your playing makes me look bad. The abilty to combine feel and technicality is a very hard thing to achieve but here I am watching a flawless Meshuggah cover by Whrightdrums. MAD PROPS!

This ridiculously good!
I seriously can't get enough of your playing!

love the snare sound
Man, is an absolute pleasure to watch you play. You're always so profoundly focused into your rhythm that rhythm itself seems to tremble into its own axis. You're definitely an inspiration to keep playing and understanding music.

Perfect cover, sir. Outstanding. Couldn't agree more with your feelings on this song as set out in your description. Some of their very best syncopated grooves, characteristically off kilter but also with a wonderful swing to it somehow, and yeah, THAT snare solo. Fantastic!

OMFG....just no words to explain what u`ve done there....absolutelly amazing!!
The main 'issues' with this track is the bloody tempo and then the quick 'kick-snare' part of the intro and verse that falls right before the hi-hat accent. That part can really screw you up ^^
But the snare solo...oh man! When you get it right is just feels like heaven :-)

Excellent work man!

freaking amazing troy. you are the only drummer on youtube who does tomas justice. insane groove.
To level of control you posses with your hands is phenomenal... I need to practice sooooo much more... Your ghost notes are fucking perfect. Im super jealous of your skill level.

Nice sounding drums and great playing!
this video has only been up for less than a day and we already cant help but argue.
i think this was sick, loving the snare throughout the whole song. id like a video briefing whats going on exactly. what polyrythms are being used and break it down a little.
This still amazes me!
Damn awesome job Troy!
Thanks for all the videos
You nailed it - and great choice of track for a drum cover.
All of your covers are amazing.... getting to the point where with guys like you out there why do I even bother hahaha. Can't see myself ever getting near that level... Great job again!
This is probably one of the more challenging meshuggah tracks
people who complain about newer meshuggah (Nothing - present) not being complex enough need to get their heads out of the sand. the speed that's not always there anymore has been replaced with technique and groove and that's what keeps Meshuggah on a completely different level than all metal bands

Great cover as usual.
yes most opportunities for playing ghost notes lie in between the right hand.. ghost notes aren't limited to just single strokes on the left tho... i actually play quite a lot of doubles in this song
Very vivid drum mix, very good everything on this. Congrats man.
