@@iancraig5415 i freaking love morgan agren but while i think he has no prob with this stuff, i think he won't have the intensity of thomas, especially not on the doublebass as he's usually only a single pedal player. That being said, him and Virgil are my drum gods so i'd be happy to see him play it any way just for a change lol
when it comes to ghost notes, it's more of an internal thing. My left hand will be moving in a ghost note manner whether the stick is close to the snare or not lol
Started to pass out during a Meshuggah gig once (empty stomach, alcohol, heat, exhaustion.. Also first concert at Bataclan since it opened again). Had some fresh water and decided to stay with some friends a little further back, I could barely stand. As soon as Demiurge started playing, rushed straight back into the pit !
Escpecially that part of the song. I've heard every song they've made countless times and that is by far the heaviest one of the most incredible parts of all.
can not believe this video is eight years old. Still feels like yesterday when i discovered this and got sent down the rabbit hole listening to Meshuggah
@@thurmanmerman6173 you're very right, the opening part of clockworks is actually pretty easy once you learn the pattern. excluding the left foot, your right foot and right hand both hit the same beats, and the ghost notes and drags on the snare fill the holes. of course, every third snare has that run on the bass and floor tom, but it's not too much of a trip.
No the best drumming video for beginner and up to intermediate and beyond is the Ray Luzier teaching DVD. Any aspiring drummer should watch this as it is a fantastic aid for learning.
Tomas Haake is an absolute machine when it comes to timing/precision. And Troy Wright? He is too. This is awesome and one of my favorite medley videos ever.
Brilliant, soulful-not robotic- heavy, intuitive precision that comes from mastering odd tempos and subdivisions. that Reference SNARE! you are an inspiration, thanks brother!

This is hands down the greatest drum cover/medley on UA-cam. Been watching it for years, and playing along to the RockBand remake of this as practice. The only place to go from here is a Dillinger Escape Plan medley, yet to see any decent DEP covers (for obvious reasons)
haha. Honestly it's not to hard to not screw up a lot of these songs. A lot of it is just straight forward patterns. The hard part is getting the timing :p
Well, he did, but that depends on how you define 'screwing up' I guess he really didn't, he's just simply not a 'God' He misses intricate double kicks and replaces them with single kicks right from the start. That's not a complaint, simply pointing that out. This guy is...friggin amazing. but 'PERFECT'? hardly. Perfect means setting a finite standard. If you truly strive to always improve, then why would you ever want to be perfect? Being perfect means you no longer need to nor desire to learn any further. Usually don’t leave comments, but dude you nailed it. An old video but it’s better than a lot I see nowadays. The transitions you picked were great and you hit every note. I’m beyond impressed. Never stop drumming
Ok, so I've watched this video on a daily basis since a friend showed it to me a few weeks ago. A) Meshuggah's drumwork is bananas; B) being able to play someone else's music is hard as balls; C) making a well done and flowing medley is also hard as balls. My conclusion is that you my friend are insane. Well done. I'll see if I can post a cover of this video in like ten, maybe fifteen years, depending on if/when I reach super saiyan. O.O

The sheer attention to detail and tightness is so impressive. I've played drums (for fun) for many years and even if I tried and practiced my very best I would never come close to this level. Troy hardly reached this competence level in his sleep, but makes this look effortless nonetheless. My deepest respect.
I've seen alot of drummers who can cover the technical bits of meshuggah, but I've never ever heard anyone capture the Haake groove, awesome man, I'm blown away.
Great medley as always. Your choice of song and play style is phenomenal. I've got two questions though: What was the hardest song to learn to play from Koloss? And last I heard as far as bands go, you auditioned for the spot in Animals As Leaders but unfortunately, that didn't end up happening. That was a while ago, so I was wondering if you've found yourself in any other projects. I would definitely be willing to give it a few listens. So I guess it's more like a question and a statement. Thanks for the awesome upload though man. I love these things!

I am very upset you haven't made a Violent Sleep Of Reason medley yet.
Mr. Putrid I need the clock works cover and born in dissonance medley
I mean, drum wise, nostrum and clockworks is way harder than any song from this album

I dont even see how you write a song like "I am colosuss" or even play it. Such an unorthodox song. So crazy.
