  • This video depicts the steps to replace a Camshaft Timing Position Sensor on the 3.6L V6 engine that comes in a variety of Chevy automobiles. This was performed on a 2014 Chevy Impala. The only tool required is a 10mm socket with a short extension. The part is available at most auto parts stores at a cost of between $20 - 40. There are two on each bank for a four total and all are identical. Be careful removing the wire plug as they are easily broken if not removed with care. Email me at jimrbell1@aol.com or through UA-cam with questions or suggestions for improvement. I hope this helps some of you as I did not find an exact video for this engine. Good luck!

      @@clsumjr Well that's good news for sure and hopefully it stays off until you get the oil changed. A little strange that it went on based on oil pressure if you weren't actually low on oil. Does it leak or burn oil? I always run full synthetic in all my cars and seems to really help with engine life, slows down wear that leads to oil consumption, etc. Good luck and thanks for sharing!

      @@jamesbell6765 MAYBE it was the oil's velocity and no it wasn't burning oil. I did had the oil pan gasket changed DECEMBER of 2020 AND the car dealer did tell me I got an oil change or maybe them idiots used the same oil that was already in the car.. I am using synthetic blend in it right now. I'll keep you posted and I did spend 3300 dollars for all wear and tare parts but it was worth cause I really did not want to get another car and the engine and trans are in perfect condition and still have the same original serpentine belt

    Special Update: This car belonged to my father before he passed away. After making this video I later found in the glovebox a letter from GM he had received that indicated this was a known issue and due to the problem Chevy extended the warranty to 10 years and 100,000 miles for this particular issue. If you encounter this code you should contact your Chevy dealer as the repair may be covered.

    R Skip and Others: R Skip asked an embedded question about what symptoms was the car showing before the change in the Camshaft Timing Position Sensor was done. There was no noticeable indication except for the Check Engine light stayed on. As it turns out, it appears to be an ineffective indication in that there is no actual problem with the engine operation. But, since you don't always know if the problem is more serious, it's important to try to address nevertheless.

    • @jamellbanner6498
      @jamellbanner6498 2 роки тому

      Hey Don, I don't remember exactly what code it gave but it was specific to then cam shaft sensor. However, I have seen where others said it affected the transmission shifting in 1st and 2nd gears which makes sense considering the engine and transmission work in harmony with one another. I'd start with the sensors first. You can get them on eBay much cheaper than the auto parts stores.

    Great video James. I just had our 2013 Impala LTZ fixed. It had two of these sensors replaced. Car not only runs better, it shifts smoother. Is there any connections about that sensor applying to the transmission as well as the crank sensor?

    • @jamesbell6765
      @jamesbell6765  2 роки тому

      Great news Simon! I have not heard about a connection to transmission shifting but would think it's plausible to have an impact given all the technology even in 2013. Out of curiosity, how many miles did your Impala have and was there any fuss with the dealer covering it if it was technically out of the original warranty?

      @@jamesbell6765 What a question. Here goes, The car had 101,028. The code kept appearing for the past 3 years. We finally got somebody who could accurately find it. Learned by watching you, there are 4 of those "Crank" sensors or Bank sensors. To pin point the bad ones, you need some real good techno experts. So there was one bad on each side, and the guy who fixed it said it does affect shifting from 1st to 2nd. Which is now smoother. I don't know if it's routed through the computer, or vacuum, but it made a difference. Mileage has improved too. Sorry I wrote a novel. Hope this helps.
