I'm having a little flashback, re: the person who asked you about her boyfriend who wants her to wear certain things when they go out together. For me...this was a red flag I didn't recognize in the early stages of a relationship with a controlling partner. Once I caved the slightest bit on what I wore around him, he tried to control me in other ways. Fortunately it didn't take much more for me to realize what path we were on, and then to head for the nearest exit, but I would have saved myself some scary moments by exiting sooner. I'm not saying this is what's happening with the person who asked the question, just putting it out there as something to be mindful of.
I tend to agree as well but with a grain of salt, some people will try to push you around in this world just to see if they can, it can just be a headstrong person that doesn’t mean much, but it can also be a sign of some evil on its way too. It’s hard to tell sometimes 🤓

Great questions (and answers!) regarding your/our style choice vs the opinions of others! Yes I was given a lot of advice on how I should dress by first: my mom, then my sister (my father just laughed (gently) at my fashion ideas/choices) then my friends and I felt different from the others in my youth (but still sticking to my own sense of fashion).Now I don't give a hoot about what people think! My partner likes a more boho style but not me! However he respects my choices. I am not sure what my style is but I know what I will definitely not wear: girly and boho!
Hi! I can totally relate to u. My mom and dad like to see me wear colorful clothes with decorations while I love neutrals and simple and stream-lined designs. Sometimes I have to comprise and wear some bright colors during holiday seasons.

Talking about other people's opinions - I don't have a husband/boyfriend/live in lover (this does not make me sad lol!!) but possibly because of this I often get remarks, usually from women, regarding how I dress like "oh, you look lovely, who's that for?" or " who's benefit is this for?". I'm not a provocative dresser, so it's not from a too sexy perspective (I sometimes wish I was a bit sexier), I'm in fact quite a conservative dresser overall but with "a look". Anyway, my point is with regards to other's opinions I used to let it influence me and now I just don't. What I wear is for me, how I dress and how I put myself together each day is for me!! It makes me angry that people assume it's for others benefit rather than mine. If someone else appreciates it, great!! But if it's not to their liking I don't care!! I'm in my mid forties and I'm too old and selfish to care what others think!! It took a long time to get here but it's a happy place!

I have many classic clothes that are over 10 years old. Leather: black jacket, a maxi coat, red leather, black suede. Linen: Black suit, short black jacket, white duster. Boots: leather black low heel, high & ankle, leather belts, many, Coach bags. Hats: all types. Dress up: silk duster. I love it all. It is all quality. Current. And I feel good I. Each item

There is nothing wrong for boyfriend to express his opinion on how he likes me to dress. It’s up to me to communicate my preference with him, instead of getting irritated by his opinion.

I'm not a woman who would simply ignore my boyfriend's preferences: if I love someone, I want to please him. But not at any price, not on every topic, not everyday. Maybe you can ask your boyfriend to explain why he wants you to dress a certain way. There will be something in his answer you will agree with and something you won't agree, and maybe you can find a way to please him and still be yourself and feel good. Let's imagine he likes your curves: if you feel good with showing them, then maybe you can find an outfit that shows a little more than usual without being too much. Maybe he wants a more feminine style: you could explain and show him that there are many ways of being feminine instead of a dress you don't feel good in etc. But whatever comes out of the discussion, if you don't feel good in what he wants, it's a NO. You are a woman , you don't become a doll when you go out!

We don’t want to totally sacrifice ourselves for the loved ones while in the meantime want to please them and make them happy. It’s up to us girls to find the balance and make everyone happy.
I would just ask a few questions about someone who asks me to wear something I don't feel great wearing when we go out. If I tell him I don't feel good in outfits like that and he keeps asking, I wonder why he doesn't care more about MY feelings. I wonder why he wants me to dress that way when we go out. What other things will he start wanting me to do or change. Already he is telling me my style isn't right, what else will he think isn't right about me. When you tell someone you don't like something and they keep asking you do to it anyway, he's telling you his feelings are more important than yours. Why waste your time on someone who doesn't value your feelings. Look for someone who loves you just the way you are and find someone you love the same way.

About the T-shirts, have you tried knitted linen tshirts? I love how nice they drape, they are fresh and airy and wear well. I have 2 in white and they look like new out of the wash.

I hope Minneapolis is full of happy family moments soon enough! I have the same situation with my style and my husbands opinion. He loves that I’m out there with blue and purple or pink hair, or clothes that others don’t dig. In fact I have been pressured more by women not to dress up or have my short hair, in Southern California it is not uncommon for women to have dyed blond long hair and pressure you to join them in the ath-leisure legging and sporty clothes, but my husband loves that this is just not me. I decide for myself, he can compliment what he likes but he knows I ignore most people’s opinion regardless. Do I wear sweatshirts and jeans sometimes, hell yes. But I donKt live in leggings which is pretty much all I see in San Diego. Did I wear leggings on car trips up toSeSide Oregon this week? Yes sometimes but uncommon for me. If I do wear leggings I wea4 wacky disco designs and get compliments on them and my hair all day ☺️
I know exactly what you mean as I lived in SoCal for 14 years before moving to Portland. The athleisure definitely seemed to be the uniform for most, which is fine. But nothing wrong with breaking out of that norm!
I am back in the Midwest, fr NYC. No one dresses much the way I do, nonetheless folks smile, compliment me, chat w me over my hip-lady choices. Really a pleasure. Perhaps I am influencing others to play w color, surrealism, silhouette? Utilitarianism seems to trump all else here. I say, "HAVE FUN!"
I love eBAY too! And I think they are very fair in disputes. As far as your husband "not liking" the high-waisted look, I might suspect it is because it is a relatively NEW look, and men sometimes have trouble adjusting to new looks, more so than women, who embrace them!
