My French Inspired Minimalist Wardrobe : Women's FAshion & Style
Disclaimer:
I am not claiming to be an expert on French style and I am not saying that all these points refer to every single person in France. This is just a wardrobe tour that I feel I can compare some of the french styling points I've heard made by French Women.

Hahaha!!! Back in the '80's, we used to squeeze into jeans...laying down to zip them up! Brought back memories...!!!
Haha love it! Thank you for your comment JoAnna!
Yessss! Me too. Baggy jeans were not an option.
I heavily gravitate to striped shirts too. My oldest is 25 years and is now dedicated to yard work. It will definitely stay.
I love your episodes. I grew up in Canada, went to Quebec, went to France, took 12 years of French. But never ever until I loved in the US did I hear stripes are French. I do not know where Americans got this idea or this history they have created about it, I have lived here 22 years now and every single time I ask someone why they think stripes are French, they give me a completely different answers. I should ask some friends that are from France and Quebec about the stripe stereotype invented by Americans, fact or myth, I have a burning desire to know 😃🤪🤣
Thank you Shelli! So glad you like the episodes. The Breton stripe comes from the French Navy and I believe it was Coco Chanel who made it an iconic style. It's funny because I find most things in fashion come from a hard working gritty background. Khaki coming from the English Army, Jeans coming from Factory workers, etc. But to your point maybe these days it's more of a cliche. It wouldn't be the first time us Americans blow up a cliche :-)
@@EmilyWheatley thank you! I was asking around and no one brought up Coco, I did hear possible French Navy though, and some people joked about the mime artist Marcelle Marceaux (however that is spelled, too lazy to look it up) 😆
💪🏼💪🏽🦾 yay stripes! (I do love a thin stripe and a thick 60s mod stripe too, I get teased for my turtlenecks and stripes I must say 🥰
@@EmilyWheatley Strictly speaking it is the British Army. England hasn't had a separate force for at least 3 centuries.
Hello shelli, how are you doing
What is it about seeing OTHER people’s clothes that is so fun? Peeking in someone else’s closet is always a good time. I’d love to see a video of age and how that (should) affects how we dress...aging gracefully is tricky. Whether it’s from your late teens into your 20s and 30s, or your 40s into your 50s and 60s. But surely a classic basic wardrobe would make that easier. Maybe it’s just the tweaks and little add-one that could change depending on ones decade. Maybe you could explore that🧐🤔🤗
I really like that idea Sharon. Thank you for the suggestion. :-)
I second that idea. I'm in my sixties and surprisingly dress quite a lot like you, Emily, except slim jeans instead of skinny and similar small tweaks. That's what I love about your and the French style: it's not only timeless, it's ageless. No surprise, since it's the French that seem to value and admire maturity in women unlike the youth obsessed US. Would also love a video where you speak to this topic. Love your sassy vibe, too! Keep em coming.
@@christinaoldham6614 Yes! That is the other thing I love about the French, celebrating maturity, well said!! Well ladies, I think it's a great idea as well to do a video about age and fashion. Will definitely add it to the list :-)
Christina Oldham we should compare old lady notes!🤪😂🤪
@@sharonstanley259 Indeed. Since we both watch Emily, I bet we'd have a lot in common. I always have to chuckle when I see how women of our age or actually younger are presented in old movies: black dresses and hair in tight buns. Oh, how times have changed, thank goodness!
Great video. Glad to see I’m not the only one that keeps mental notes of length of ownership of pieces in their wardrobe 😎.
Haha right, I love thinking about my long term relationships with my clothes :-)
Loving the dress game! 👌🏽
Thanks for sharing your personal wardrobe.
I like my pants tight fitting usually, but I just bought a neutral pair of wide leg denim that will go with everything and I love the look!
Love that! Good for you for stepping out of the comfort zone.
You are a total denim Jean specialist! How you can identify which is which when folded on a shelf!! Impressive!!
Haha yea, obsessed. I know each ones wash so that's how I identify them :-)
Hello Victoria, how are you doing
i'm going back and watching some of your videos. :D This was awesome! Gotta love the French!
Fun! Glad to hear you liked it :-)
I love peeking into other people's closets.
Yea it is fun!
Great video! 👏I have similar pieces too but with khaki shackets and shirts thrown in for good measure! 👍❤️
I need to get more Khaki for sure, such another great neutral to have.
Great video! Thanks! I like the blazers and cardigan sweaters. I don't have too many of them. I will have to add them to my wardrobe soon! :)
Thank you Jessica!
She said, "It's like casing a sausage"! Ha ha ha! 🤣🤣🤣
Can you add another closet or free-standing wardrobe somewhere? You should have your own, especially as fashion is your biz.
Thank you 😍 love it. Just received my Everlane jumpsuit love it.
Yay! So glad you love it!
Just wonderful! Thank you 🙏🏼🌸🌺🌼🙏🏼
I look awful in black. I´m to light. It´s as if I were sick! But navy is my colour! ♥
Yes, good alternative choice. I love Navy too!
Me, too, so I often put a white shirt under it.
So similar to my closet contents, except I can't wear stripes across - I'm 5' 10" and a UK size 14 so I'm a bit of Valkyrie and they just make my boobs look even bigger!
Oh yea girl, you have the opposite problem of me, I'm an itty bitty chested gal. What is your favorite print to wear with a larger chest?
I don’t wear much print to be honest. Definitely none in the tops department and maybe a few prints in dresses but I rarely wear them. I’ve got a couple of Temperley London dresses which I always wear with chunky boots (too girlie otherwise) and a couple of Les Reveries - and that’s it and they are small floral print. Always a small print, never big, and always v-neck but not too low. I get them on The Outnet As too pricey otherwise - but I haven’t bought a new dress since leaving London.
@@MsDeMandeville I loooove Temperley London and I love the idea of wearing them with chunky boots. Thanks for your feedback, it's good to hear how other body types style.
I’m busty, too, but I wear striped tops, anyway, I just make sure they’re not too tight there.
I’m always embarrassed when I see other women’s wardrobes, I have so much of everything! But, I love and wear everything, so I tell myself it’s ok.
Another great video. Learned a lot.
Yay, glad you liked it!!
You don’t have to button your jeans ….you can zip as far and they will go then tuck the button part and the other under ….
Awesome 🙏💕
Thank you! :-)
BDG jeans have a broken belt loop, need a quick re-stitching.
having a romantic relationship with your clothes! I feel that so hard.
Right!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one :-)
I like your lipstick color. Do you mind sharing?
Of course! It's BareMinerals Matte Liquid Lipcolor in color Naughty. It is my favorite lipcolor by far, stays on for such a long time and it doesn't dry out the lips.
Emily Wheatley thank you so much. I love your style. Very modern and trendy.
@@sueza6322 Thank you for such a nice comment. Hope you like the lipcolor :-)
Know about that tight jean thing
Awesome video! I am as addicted to beige, tan & cream as you are to black.
Such good neutrals as well. I need to get more Beige and Tan! I do have some cream and love it, but if I'm not careful with my make up it washes me out :-(
Where are the outfits in the (misleading) thumbnail?!
Francophiles !! OUI !
You crack me up.
:-) Thank you Yuko!
Thats where you spend you money$$$ on shoes❤️
Haha oh yea, definitely!
"There is no-one who doesn't look good in black."
~laughs mirthlessly in soul sucking beige~
Meet moi; the muted warm colour palette.
Me too as a autumn colour type black is awful on me
Strictly speaking black, especially next to the face, only suits around half the population, possibly less. The rest of us can only risk it with a bit of cosmetic help to avoid looking ill. Even then, some people still cannot wear it.
I have your lamp in my dining room
Ahh love that! The white arc one?
Get rid of those too-tight jeans, why suffer? Looser jeans are more in-style anyway.
Something wrong with hair...
No to black. You can wear it beautifully, but with my low-contrast, slightly warm colouring, I cannot. I look like hell and at least 10 years older. High contrast stripes are another no for me. They completely wear me and look awful. On the other hand, olive green looks amazing on me. A girl has to play the hand she's dealt.
You're so right, wear what works best for you. :-)
@@EmilyWheatley I just discovered your channel and love your videos. I'm binge watching them all.
This is not french at all. French women are VERY feminin and what you are showing us is more like some sort of boy-style. I don`t want to sound rude but I think you have never been to France.
