  • Rough Country 2" lift kit install on 2008 Jeep Commander. Also installed 1.5" wheel spacers and huge 265/70/17 wheels. This spacer and wheel combo requires modification to the wheel wells (found out the hard way). I believe 1/2" smaller tires would work better.
    Check out these links to the products used in this video!
    Rough Country lift kit - amzn.to/2mUig2D
    Wheel spacers - amzn.to/2hO2tx3
    Monroe Extra Load shocks rear - amzn.to/2hMaORw
    Complete strut assembly front (cheap) - amzn.to/2mSANfB
    Better quality strut assembly
    Monroe Quick Strut assembly front left - amzn.to/2HcZU5n
    Monroe Quick Strut assembly front right- amzn.to/2EMIPxw
    Adjustable ball joint - amzn.to/2AL3LDG
    12/07/17 Edit - Car just came off the alignment and camber is too negative in front. Need adjustable ball joints.

    old vid but still important lmao...Hey thanks for actually showing how and what to do so I can get the rear done...I just replaced everything up front, I mean jba uca and lower, ball joints tie rods, struts, clevis bolts...A real pain in the arse...everyone else just fast forwards through it then you are at the mercy of that...I got a WK and took me 16 hours counting store runs and coffee,eating, cigs stuff like that...2.5 inch lift gave me 4 almost 5 inches of lift...its crazy simple but everything in the salt belt is rusted (demon clevis bolt on lower control arm) I ordered two new bolts and it was the wrong one...lots of problems to run into ..its done though posting a vid todayon it...once again man thanks so much!

    You gave me the idea. I went the same way. Same rear shocks, same kit, with a nerf bar rail. I chip tuned my 4.7 though. Spacer for the throttle body with a forced air intake. And a flowmaster makes it look, run & sound good. You started me on my jeeps looks (Thanx)

    Did the same lift and same size tires with no spacers though. I'm satisfied with it since I don't use it for off roading since the huge tires rub and hit everything in the well. 🤤I wish I could do a 4 or 6 inch lift but that would cost way too much to do. Spacers will be the next thing I buy. Great vid my friend!!!

    Little update, vehicle came back from the alignment and it needs adjustable ball joint to correct too negative camber.
    So for anyone doing this project, make sure you do the alignment. Otherwise you can wear your tires out fast and unevenly.

      I have added the link in the video's description! Thanks! You can do the alignment first and see how much negative the camber is, then install the ball joint. To correct negative camber you basically need to move the top of the knuckle away from the strut.

    I suggest getting a front diff drop if they have it. I got the 3 inch RC lift for my 3rd gen 4Runner which didn't come with the diff drop but I got one separate. Took a lot of the angle out of my front axles. But great job...looks great! If I can find one of these Commanders for less than a million bucks in my neck of the woods, it's gonna be my next project.

    I put that kit on the front and I had to remove it because if the width of the lift spacers is 2", the vehicle rises much more, since the front strut assembly rests on the middle of the lower suspension arm, not on the wheel hub.
    Then hit the transmission axle in the fork when the suspension is extended.
    I put another system (heavymetal suspensions) changing for a longer forks.
    And to correct camber, I use JBA Upper A-arms for lifted WK/XK

      J E just clarifying that with the installation of the 2” lift the stance also changes, and the front no longer rests lower than the rear. I’ve attempted once already to install this lift, which is sitting in my garage in the box. I got as far as removing the lower clevis bolt( lower strut fork) bolt and it seemed to be overly seized, I did soak it with lubricant for serval days and was still unable to beat the bolt loose.. Any Inputs Please?

    • @paulgenzale7775
      @paulgenzale7775 5 років тому +2

      @@d.mclean6300 I just did mine. Call jeep and order 2 new bolts and nuts and save the headache. As for removing, I had to cut the bolts out. Then the whole bushing sleeve came out which basicly renders the lower control arm shot. So pending on miles and where your located (mine was 136k miles and from the north east, with the ammount of disassembly, maybe new lower control arms are the way to go. That's what I did. It added like 250 bucks to the project cost but I plan on keeping my commander indefinitely so it was a worth wild investment in my opinion

    Getting ready for spacers after my lift install. Thanks for the vid. Did I see you put red locktite before you put the spacer on? Maybe anti seize? not sure. Any thoughts? I was just going to locktite the lugs......which I think you didn't do.

    • @TDRAuto
      @TDRAuto  6 років тому +1

      No I didn't use locktite. I use locktite where there are increased vibration or centrifugal forces. As long as I tight the bolts right, they're not coming loose. You still need to do periodic inspections especially after throwing in aftermarket parts.

    TDR Auto, what is the modification to the wheel wells that is needed with this lift? RC recommends 265/70R17 tires with this lift kit, which is what you used. So I am wondering what modification was needed? Could it be because you used aftermarket wheels and not the stock Jeep wheels to put the 265/70R17 tires on (this could cause a different offset if the new wheel package did not match the stock offset)? I am about to do this exact job next week and want to be prepared for anything unexpected.

      Those wheels are 17x9 and offset -6 with 1 inch spacers.
      The owner cut off bit of the rear wheel wells and had to hammer the pinch wall behind it completely flat. We removed and bypassed the rear coolant lines as well.

I replaced shocks and sway bar links in the back. Does the rear of your Jeep Commander sit lower than the front?? Before I did all this work, myJeep sat very even, now it sits lower in the back. I was thinking coil springs, but the dealer can only get the right side🤔and the left side has been discontinued?? Any thoughts??

    I know nothing about suspension or lifting a vehicle, did you buy new strut assemblies and the leveling kit? Why not just longer/bigger strut assemblies?

      Because there is a significant price difference between these two.

    I heard that your supposed to get longer rear shocks when lifting.. are the monroe shocks you put on stock length or longer?

      Kevin Gerald Stock length. My friend the owner of the car was on tight budget. Later on he put on shock extensions.

      I read that the monroe 58643 shocks are longer and fix this problem without extensions...they are for a ford f150 but apparently will work!

    Question I did the same set up as you did the back look a little little bit lower than the front in the beginning for you

    • @TDRAuto
      @TDRAuto  6 років тому

      MrEamaya08
      Yes the front sits a little higher thanks to the strut where is mounted to the control arm. 2" spacers in front will lift little higher then 2" in rear.

    Spring compressor makes it easier not having to unbolt everything

    Do you need new or different shocks when adding these spacers? Or did you just upgrade?

      @TDRAuto  2 роки тому +1

      You don’t need to replace the shocks, but If they are old it will improve ride quality.

    • @TDRAuto

      The front upper ball joints had to be replaced, so 2.

    I was wondering about the upper control arms alot say to change them with this lift because the ball joint will fail and cause the wheel to fall off. I notice you didn't change this. What is your reasoning behind it? Thanks

      Donavan Garcia
      My friend did the research and requested this work. He never heard replacing control arms with 2" lift. You do need adjustable ball joints or control arms to correct the camber though if it's out of spec.

      Thanks for the reply, I didn't think so since it's only 2in the are horror stories had me worried and there is quit a few. As for the ball joints you just pop them out and put those ones in ?. Look up jba upper control arms if you get a chance they explain why you should use them with a 2in.
