OMG!!! Ok, so I've been struggling with chords on the guitar as I've never really done them much, just finger picking, but a coworker said the ukulele was easier. I got it tuned up and this is the first song I've ever played fully through on either the guitar or the ukulele!!! And I've had the guitar for years!!! And I just bought the ukulele and here I am day 2 and I know 4 chords already and kept up with your play along even with the hard part where it was 2 tap strums then switch!!! Like, actually playing along as you sing!!! And I kept up!!! I've never done chords before!!! I always avoided songs with chords because they were too hard on the guitar!!! Day 1 and I was reliably getting my fingers in the right spot, and day 2, I'm here doing the whole song! Thanks man!!! I'm gonna look and see if you have more, especially if you have the whole entire song. I like that you have it on the screen and you also tell what's up next. I'm not even looking at my fingers as much now except the G6 and I don't have to keep looking at how to form those 4 chords since I remember. I'm so proud of myself thanks to you!!! Oh, and EZ because you made it easy!!! THANKS!!! 🎉❤ 🎶 🎸 🎵 🪕 🎼❤ 🎉
What?!? Day 2!!!!!!! Yaaaaahhhhhhh! That’s so amazing foreal! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Now that you got those four chords and that strumming pattern down, you can play more than 20 songs! Promise!
@@JJMilare lol, maybe. First I want to get down strumming while singing. And before that, I need to learn the song well enough that I don't need to look at the lyrics or listen to you to hear the tune, lol. I have heard the song here and there in passing, but since I got a ukulele, I decided this was gonna be the first song I learned 😆. Sometimes I have it then I do 5 instead of 4 and mess it all up or I stumble over the lyrics. I don't usually sing and play anything, so that's a whole new thing I'm training myself to do. Especially hard since I'm looking at both the lyrics AND the chords to play at the same time now. I would probably be further along if I did this every day. I just picked it back up today again and decided to add singing to the strumming. Also been messing up my F chord while singing because I'm playing in the dark and not always judging the distance well enough for the tabs... and... you know... adding the singing to it, lol. But I can totally play along with you no mistakes and I made it through the song with... occasional errors while playing and singing in the dark with only my phone to light up the room.
@@AliciaBrownSugar oh yeah! Singing and playing is another hurdle too! But as I always say, practice makes permanent! 😀. It will definitely take time and the more you do it will get easier. Sometimes I do stumble with my lyrics, timing, and strumming when I learn a new song. When I'm trying to learn a song, no rule of thumb is if I can play it 7 times without mistakes, then I got it!
@@frednawrot4197 oh much mahalo for that suggestion! I don’t have one yet! I was looking into starting one but I got really busy :). Maybe someday. I shall let you guys know in a future video if I ever do tho!

Came across JJ’s video and started to dig a little further into other posts. So happy I came across his UA-cam. I am a beginner and his videos have been super informative. Mahalo.
Thank you for making tutorial to teach this required song for ukulele player in easier style. I have been learning to play ukulele for 19 months (self-taught with UA-cam tutorials). But, I am a senior. I waited very late in late before I started learning to play a ukulele. I think I am ready now to learn to play this song. What part of hand do you use to get the tapping sound? I can get the tapping sound by opening my hand to tap after every upstrum. But, that requires too much movement.
It's never too late to learn ukulele! 😀 I am glad you are learning! For the tapping, what I do is I keep my right hand half open half closed and tap the strings with the outside of my finger tips. Sometimes it's my nail or the fleshy part past the nail that touches the string but thay way I don't need to open my fingers all the way.
@@JJMilare Thanks for more info. I don't want you to think that after 19 months of practice I can't do any strumming. I just can't get into the groove of doing chucking, muting or tapping or a roll strum. But, I am pretty good at playing a standard Island strum, modified Island Strum (like in Bad Moon Rising), Cowboy strum, bouncy folk strum (Lava), and 3/4 time strum.
@@phyllismorris94 oh I don't think that at all my friend! I am just happy to help at all! And now at 19 months you have a good variety of styles under your belt!

Wow yes really easy for first time player and I also have the same ukulele you are holding also.
yay I am glad you were able to learn it!!!. I like this ukulele! How do you like it?

Yay! Much mahalo for coming and learning here and mahalo for the kind words!
i bought an ukulele today ... i hate this song but my mom likes it so now i'm learning it ^^ good luck to all ukulele beginners ^^
Aw that's good you are learning it for your mom! How is the learning going?
@@JJMilare i practiced for 6 hrs on that day but my fingers have been hurting so bad ever since^^ so i could only practice for a few minutes every day after that T.T but thanks a lot for asking
@@Mortal-san oh wow 6 hours! Yes your fingers must be sore. I would say even 30 minutes a day would be good. I like to go for consistency rather than length sometimes. Maybe that will.help your fingers. And also you will develop callouses over time so that will help too. 😀🤙
@@JJMilare thanks a lot i'll try to do that but i just got really excited when i first got the uke ^^
@@Mortal-san no worries! Completely understand! It is exciting I do agree! 😀
I’ve been trying to play the Ukulele and my grandpa says when I learn how the first song he wants me to play for him is Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Thank you for the tip of using G6
in place of Em.
I never heard of G6 before.
It is easier than Em. I think it even sounds better in this song.
Glad you like it! I use the G6 a lot! 🙂🤙
Very easy to learn from you and thank you very much ❤️❤️
Much mahalo ! I am glad this was easy!!!
I have always struggled to keep a natural regular strum pattern going in this song. Thanks for this brilliant video. BW 🌹

Yeah! Is this your first ukulele?! Would this be your first song on it too!!??
@@JJMilare Yes my first Ukulele and no not the first song I've learned. My first song was "I'm yours" . Playing Ukulele is fun and easy to learn (ok, I can play guitar). I love it!
Charlotta Karotta ah yes I’m yours is a pretty popular one too! Oh and you play the guitar! Ukulele must have been a breeze to pick up. Did you know that if you capo you’re guitar to the 5th fret, that’s the ukulele tuning? 😁

This is a great tutorial. The strum is a challenge. I’ll keep working on it. Thank you

Maybe you can try to do a random chord while doing the strum, then when you feel ready, switch the chord, then switch the chord again when you are ready in the same practice session. Awww much mahalo for those kind words!
Loved it❤ so ez
Thank you for making tutorial
to teach this required song for
ukulele player in easier style.
I have been learning to play ukulele for 19 months (self-taught with UA-cam tutorials). But, I am a senior. I waited very late in late
before I started learning to play a ukulele.
I don't want you to think that after
19 months of practice I can't do any strumming. I just can't get into the
groove of doing chucking, muting or tapping or a roll strum.
But, I am pretty good at playing a standard Island strum, modified Island Strum (like in Bad Moon Rising), Cowboy strum, bouncy
folk strum (Lava), and 3/4 time strum.
@@phyllismorris94 oh I don't think that at all my friend! I am just happy to help at all! And now at 19 months you have a good variety of styles under your belt!
@@JJMilare Yes, I have added to my
repoitoire of songs I can play and sing
on soprano & concert ukulele quite
an interesting diverse group of songs.
For Saint Patrick's Day I picked up
"Whiskey in the Jar" & "Dirty Old Town"
both with Cowboy strum.
I am playing the Modified Island Strum on "Looking Out My Back Door"
Most recently I learned "Singing the Blues." Sung by Marty Robbins & others.
@@phyllismorris94 wow! Keep learning new songs! That's do awesome! What is a modified island strum?
