Magnus Carlsen plays bullet chess for 1 Bitcoin [Part 1 of 2]

- This is Part 1 of 2 of the biggest prized bullet chess tournament in history. It's the "Agadmator CakeDeFi Christmas Arena" which began on December 21st, 2021 at 2:22 PM EST. I followed/livestreamed the games of 5-time World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen as he plays for the incredible top prize of 1 Bitcoin (~$49,000). This 2-hour event of 2-minute bullet chess includes the very best bullet players in the world, namely Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Alireza Firouzja, Andrew Tang, Daniel Naroditsky, and many more. The tournament was so big it crashed the lichess site. It will be resumed on another day with the same scores, and the same remaining time (~1 hour 15 minutes).

33:37 LOL, "Firouza, Nakamura, ... ok, Rob is in there ... and then Carlsen."
That cracked me up! Rob snuck in there just in time. 😂
Jerry is so nice spectating the tournament and giving others a chance at the prize
Our entertainment is more valuable to him than 1 Bitcoin.
Yo dude, thanks for the years of content. Best commentator in the chess scene.
"A clown? In this tournament?"
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Epic commentary
Jerry is my favorite
I was waiting for the Magnus Hikaru pair up. Can't believe it didn't happen.
Funny to see you got a crypto scam bot on your chess video just from the title! Thank you for posting consistently enjoyable videos, Jerry
Bro wanna buy crypto? This is not a scam bot
Jerry you are spoiling us. Feeling blessed rn
I'd love to watch you spectate Alireza's games
By the times this resumes that bitcoin will be half price.
It makes the tournament even more epic that there's a part 2!
in the parallel universe there is only part 2
Hi Jerry ur content is awesome 😊
👍
appreciate the material counter being back on!
So happy for all this content! Thanks, cheers from DK
Love you man! Keep up the good work.
The tournament crashed because the lichess AI couldn't believe Carlsen lost to an IM. So it's brain exploded
yayyy thank you for fixing the material display setting
Great commentary!
Spectacular commentary!
These videos are great
Azzaro25 is Anish apparently
Nepo is in the tournament as well as Jepetto
Thank you, Jerry. Great content as always.
I can't believe I'm watching a 47 minutes long chess video. Great commentary as always.
Lol your attention span is really weak.

i was like you once. then you wake up one day and realise you just spent 7.5h watching a single chess game the day before. get out while you still can!
I like your videos Jerry
Thank you.
great commentary
Where is part 2?!
Tournament crashed my dude
Where's part two?
Firouzja, Nakamura, Rob, Carlsen
a clown in this tournament?? you had me rolling jerry xD
Bitcoin price can move fast, better be ready to update the title, Jerry! 😃
I'll leave it as is. We'll see how different it is for Part 2 of 2. :)
Crazy that Carlsen would play a tournament for 30k!
@@lawlzerderp7136 Right? $51,000 is a lot!
@@lawlzerderp7136 he is not playing for the money lol, he is playing for fun.
@@tomatoisnotafruit5670 Sorry, I was trying to make a stereotypical joke about how Bitcoin's price has went up to 70k, and couldn't figure out a better way to phrase it :)
You make these tournaments fun
Wow Magnus played well... Even the last game he lost was a maybe just excitement cause the continuation was obvious but he went for a crazy sacrifice
"a clown in this tournament? I didn't expect that" :p lol
They are saying Azzarro is Giri. Somehow with Italian flag... :)
Agadmator cakedei arena??
10:39 anyone who has watched Jerry's older videos knows how much Jerry loves K-G4. Best performed when he uses his "fishing pole" tactic.
Edit: Oh, that turned out to be a great game as well. Bravo
42:15 didn’t they both blunder? hanging bishop was missed by both i think
*29...Qc6? 30.Qd2*
Black rook was hanging
Hmm, no "Hi it's Jerry" :)
Not when it's content pulled from Twitch to UA-cam :)
Booo! The crowds has rights!!
a cheater in the tournament... maybe somebody really wanted that Bitcoin.
6:03 Why not Qxa6? I don't care about the pawn, just want to defend the d3 bishop.
Starting at 5:29, you can see white white is really trying to keep the queen on the 7th rank. I guess because white didn't want to go on the defensive. Qxa6 was the move to play though, you're right.
@@seppe8156 Thanks for your response. I checked with Stockfish to confirm. Qxa6 is over a pawn advantage for white, while any other move is losing. In that regard, my "keep it simple stupid" approach seems like a success, but there is much more to the position that I did not see. After Qxa6 Ng4 (threatening mate in 1) white has to sac the exchange with Rxg4 and then evacuate their king to the other side of the board. I wouldn't find that plan and I suspect even much stronger players might not.
Whenever I hear of events like this, I always automatically think of that time when a guy bought a pizza for 10k bitcoins 😅 oops
What about the guy who had about 1000 bitcoins and threw away his laptop? He didn't even get a pizza!
@@GrislyAtoms12 Unless you convert those bitcoins into real money and have it in your bank account, it aint worth shit.
Hikaru ended up around 30 points ahead of Carlsen, nuts. And also showed that berserking might not be the best strategy in a long arena like this, maybe in a 1 hour arena would be different. But think about it, just one draw would cost you the same amount of points that you gained by berserking 6 games, a lost will cost you the gains of 8 berserk games. And obviosly you're not going to win every game in the tournament, while playing with an extra minute against all the berserkers indeed give you crazy odds of winning every game like Hikaru did, despite hanging mate being a piece up against Eric Rosen xd
The real difference is like 24 points, because Nakamura got 2 or 3 pairings when Magnus and others couldn't. It's a lot of points, but still over 1h until tournaments ends. So every top player can make come back, especially Magnus, who's after all not that bad in bullet. Ngl Hikaru has a very promising beggining.
@@fonteinbloem3067 hikaru got only1 extra game
@@manangupta1902 He got at least 2 more games, because problems started to appear after game with Eric Rosen
@@fonteinbloem3067 Magnus its a superior player indeed, the only time control in which Hikaru might be stronger its un bullet, but this its 2+0, very impressive by Nakamura let me tell you haha. I think Hikaru has played so much online blitz in the last 3 years that he has become stronger than ever.
@@amigosXcorrespondenc Imo it's really hard to tell who is better in bullet 1+0 or even in 2+0, because they haven't played any match yet in that time control (if I'm not mistaken). I would love to see their skills against each other. Maybe it will happen one day and we'll find out.

At 3:08 after RxR why didn't QxR+ ?
Black could reply by moving its rook back from d1 to d8. So it's a rook for rook either way, but I guess Magnus liked the position better with the queen not having to retreat from a8? Also, moving QxR+ would leave black with the open d file, at least temporarily.

At 12:16. "Carlsen could have TOOK that bishop for free". I sweat my a** off trying to speak English well and then you hear this from a native speaker.
21:24 cheater ** edit the account was banned but we don't know if it was for this game
Insane that Magnus was able to battle him head on throught the whole game in 2 min. time
Honestly rewatching the game, it doesn't seem to be cheating. He had a couple mistakes, and even blunders.
Magnus blundered a winning position.
My reaction to his king move was "oh noo!!" Since it was easy to see, but I guess in the heat of the moment he missed the bishop move, which would have more than likely win the game.
All in all, I really don't see LexySexy as a cheater (especially when his rating was over 2800... if he was in fact cheating, how was he able to obtain such a high rating without being caught? - think about it for a minute.)
@@_C_E_C_ true, they posed on the forums that they have appealed the ban. We'll see what happens. It's possible they were banned for a different game. It's also possible they didn't play every engine move this game.
@@andy68916 Obviously they'll only use engine moves when they're in a pickle. Using engine moves on everything is instan ban.
Who was the cheater?
Interesting choice of avatar, Meta's balls.
Even anatomically correct with one being droopy.
LOL
Will Magnus keep the streak?
???
When part 2? I don't wanna watch just to stop in the middle 😅
Watch part 1 to find the answer...
@@MrWadeBarrett yeah I did already haha
What is this berserk game thing?
You get 1 min instead of 2 mins. If you win you get more points than usual (5 for a win, 3 for a draw). Usual is 2 for a win and 1 for a draw I think.
@@anujinbrisbane Slight correction, you only get an extra point if you win while berserking (3 instead of 2 without a streak, and 5 instead of 4 with). This of course, is in exchange for having to play the entire game with half the original time and without any increment/bonus (if the original has one to begin with)
I like that you say part 1 of 2 but feel the time 2 hour's is to short... This tornament fir the first time in forever made my hear race.... I mean general on average it's atleast 3 mins per game if the players are serious
Magnus said his boyhood hero was ….wait for it…….himself……lol, he said that in an interview, and he was serious…ool
He did not say anything about hero lol, he said that his fav chess player from the past was 23 years old himself
Rob... That guy always ruins it

The game crashed because someone tried to steal the bitcoin prizes, jk.
where is part 2?
Still to be played.
heh, re-oreo.
LOL. Yes, I think it's Rio Rio
Part 2?...
Ahhh crashed tourny
So the player Jerry identified as Jobava cheated? (edit: never mind, he recanted at 34:19)
I wish the chess community didn’t have such an obscene infestation of cryptobros shilling their ponzi schemes.
Naka too far ahead, beast!
Great as always. When it’s replayed, you should consider following Alireza, or at least doing 50/50.
Love Alireza but Jerry should always follow the Dr.
I was sure Magnus rage quit. Glad to see there will be more to this tourney
I knew something was wrong as on kchessk channel Nakamura play was also 40 something minutes. Altough I tought they stopped the tournament due to enourmous amount of cheaters stealing time making it unfair for those running into cheaters too many times.
he does. So many cheaters this game, even Hikaru faced one, but that one got banned midgame and given the win to Naka. While the cheater Magnus faced, did not get banned and was given the L too.
@@Say0cean if cheater cought means win for the other player it's not so bad compansation than. Maybe they should make some sort of preliminaries for non titled players before that big price tournament happens. That would reduce number of players as well so no server problems.
@@Say0cean Relax see the scorecard Magnus was given win
🎄🙏🎄❤🎄
Lexy cheating, how is it possible to cheat at bullet? Surely the game is too quick?
I’ve seen it before, basically the computer is playing the game akin to playing bullet vs stock fish. The player isn’t actually making any of the moves.
@@bobbyray49 Not even needed. There are browser plugins that can scan the screen and take all the info from it. Or, if you can program, also write your own software to do it. This one is harder (because it's not just understanding the screen, but knowing what move is the best), but definitely possible. This would be a lot more likely, as computer moves are really simple to detect. Even mobile games detect auto clickers, so you'd expect it from an established company.
small notice again, no need to check standings every time you want to know in which place Carlsen is, it's ritten next to his clock :)
After a game ends, it automatically goes on to the standings.
Who won this tournament?
No one, the tournament crashed. Check 46:45
@@simba4chess4 That's ironic. Crypto in a nutshell
Magnus played 18 games with 17 win,
Hikaru played 26 games with 24 win. Also Magnus lost to a cheater, and Hikaru was also losing to a cheater but lichess awarded him a win for that, surprisingly same didn't happen for magnus!!
Agad wanted this to be open for all but fools wants to cheat just to play these GMs. Because if Agad restricted it to those titled players only cheating would be somewhat minimized as they could identify the players easily
@@Morphysince94 this is true. The cheater Hikaru faced was banned midgame, and he won because of that. Unlike the cheater Magnus faced
0:14 The computer already showed +0.2 for white even when the game didn't start... Cuz it's Magnus, Brother from another mother of Alpha Zero... Lol XD

Did Agadmator put up the prizes out of his own pocket?
If Agadmator is a trustfund baby, that would answer some questions I've had about him for a long time (i.e. how does an incoherent, one-dimensional-thinking, online-2200 chess analyst become so influential? I can't even watch his vids without cringing.)
Probably yes because if you are watching Antonio's videos for a long time he got bitcoins as donations and more and yeah I forgot it is sponsored by cake de fi he did a stream with its ceo
No, it was sponsored by cakedefi
Why are you this negative about a man that has nothing to do with you, your family, or your money? Sounds like envy in my humble opinion.
Considering that the majority of chess players are well below 2200 online rating I don't understand your flaming. I don't watch his videos but if a lot of ppl enjoy his content and he is spreading the game to a broader audience, that's a win for the sake of this game.
My advice: Stop being a pretentious prick.
@@dayoldeggplant My idiotometer is probably too hypersensitive. So many times I have seen an Agadmator title advertising a super interesting game--but then I watch it, listen to his analysis, and am...like..."wtf? Who is thus low-IQ buffoon?" And I feel embarrassed for the poor bloke. Then I come here to watch the same game on Jerry's channel, and I'm like..."oh. Positional strategy. Tactical brilliance. Thinking three moves abead." And I wish Agadmator could think one move ahead.
I know...I'm too picky.
Berserking doesn’t help you play more games. Playing faster does. If you berserk and only use 20 seconds and your opponent uses 2 minutes you didn’t save any time by berserking. Chessnetwork didn’t think that one out like he never does
It does help you get more points though. And IFAIK the one with the most points wins.
Without berserk, a game could go close to 4 minutes max to end
With berserk, a game could go max 3 minutes.
with both player berserking, a game could go max 2 minutes.
Essentially, berserking makes you play more games, as it forces you to play quicker. Didn't think that far did u
Berserk scores you an extra point, something that you might have considered if you've played a single tournament with berserks before writing this comment lol
