I am a 74 year old Stroke victim (Right Hemiperesis) + Heart failure + Died 2 X 30mins NO heart beat from Multi organ failure and Resusicitated; Though I have a genuine Disabled Parking Blue Badge, I always allow Wheelchair Disabled people preference to use vacant Disabled Parking Bays in preference to me using the space. Others needs are more than mine. I enjoy a very generous Australian Age Pension and have heaps of spare time. Love thy neighbour! I feel much better being nice to others. It makes my day, a happy day..... From Perth, Western Australia.
As wheelchair drive i give all Respect to people acting like you. Most people have no idea how difficult it is to move along in a wheelchair evey little step or hole is a obsitcal sometimes they parking so close to my car that i cant get in it and have to wait for the driver to move his car.
Stop the holier than thou attitude. If you need the space, USE THE SPACE. ENOUGH. I have a Blue Badge in Canada. I use it. DAILY. If there are no spaces, I leave.
I have done the same, but people have seen me do so and gave their standard space that is closer, my local ASDA is good though, they have 8 spots close to the door but they have enough 16ish a tiny bit further away, it works.
So the government intend to spend £55 million on abuse. That is abuse of public money in its own right. The charity, Motability, paid the CEO, £1.7m with a £2.2m bonus. They have a £2.6bn in reserves. That is serious abuse.
I have a legitimate blue badge and every day use it recently I have been assaulted physically and verbally by several things that are supposed to be humans for questioning their use of disable bays, outside Asda , Lidl, also Aldi first assault happened in Asda Prescot road in Liverpool by a thing driving a Tesla who undertook me to get in a parking bay when I pulled him up about the disabled bay he said that his mother is disabled and he was shopping for her she had sprained her ankle3weeks prior he then told me to mind my effing business and thumped me in the stomach.????Mentioning this to the security staff I was told that they don't police the car park. Second time in recent memory was verbal assault by a thing aged approximately twenties who was sitting in his car with his partner eating an asda sandwich again I was verbally attacked he then made an aggressive movement to open his door his passenger opened his door and came at me from his side. The latest one was at aldi Liverpool when again my partner mentioned the infringement of the schemes rules She (my partner)was attacked with the drivers telephone ,I stepped in to calm the situation down and got a torrent of abuse and was told that my accident caused by my military service should have killed me (thank you ). What can I do to stop this anti social behaviour?I have been told by the police that they cannot enforce the blue badge system. What is the point of going onto the scheme if it is unenforceable?

I am 77 years old and I am disabled and have great difficulty walking. The blue badge parking spaces are often filled with young very fit people. It is obvious they are not disabled and are probably using their relative's blue badge, Young mothers believe they can also park in the disabled parking bays. The blue badge system is so abused, especially by young people.
And they wont add more because of greed, they would sooner fit more standard spaces just for that few extra quid in parking fees. More disabled would use standard ones that are closer, problem is they are not fit for purpose. We no longer have the minis, maestros, morris minors etc they were designed for, cars are bigger especially those with a battery. I would do this if there was more room, just to save aggro, of people judging on what the see not what they know. However I have seen people fight back and just park over 2 standard spaces and good for them.
Everywhere is a problem for blue badge abuse , believe me I see it on a daily basis especially at my local supermarket who don't seem to care and are paying lip service to those with disabilities.
What happens about people from overseas holding an international disability parking permit? Last time we visited, we discovered they're not recognised in the UK, and you have to apply for a local one at every single council whose territory you visit.
The latter is wrong, you only need one badge for the whole country not sure who told you that. However I would look into some channels next time make a few calls it could just be as simple as asking the embassy, as even if you applied it takes around 6 weeks and they probably wont give you one.
@@CassieLou-v9r I'm talking of ten years ago, and that was definitely the situation then. If things have improved in the meantime, I'm pleased to hear it.
Its an everyday occurrence, fraudulent use of badges is preventing actual disabled people from using designated spaces and the favourite excuse is I've got a hidden disability which some people do have but is also a convenient excuse for those pulling a fast one. Perhaps putting the photograph on the front of badges would deter some fraudsters as it would be immediately visible that the user is not the owner of the badge also there are so many badges being issued and virtually no extra disabled spaces being provided, maybe the criteria for getting a badge needs toughening up.
I see it most days , my disability is obvious, others are not so obvious, but equally as entitled to use a blue badge , ....then there are people who by various means have access to a badge , but no entitlement to use it , appealing to their sense of fair play is pointless, a fixed penalty of £2000 , and the badge being permanently cancelled might help cut down on its misuse, ...harsh, I know , but if you do not do it , it will not effect you , and it will help genuinely disabled people

Disability isnt always visible to the eye Paul. That is a very silly thing you said there. Why do we have abuse. No 1 reason is free parking. Take away all the freebies (of which there are plenty) associated with the blue badge, that should free up a lot of disabled parking bays. Blue badges should only be issued to people who require extra space to exit their vehicles such as wheelchair users and perhaps with one or two other exemptions.
