Recorded by Bryan McCulley on 3 January 1996.
She was a friend...never had a bad thing to say about anyone...one of the best human beings I have ever known..
What an incredible talent, makes me sad watching her as Ive just discovered her. So sorry for your loss.
@@lindasampson2877 So sorry for OUR LOSS !
You are so lucky to have been friends with her. I am so sorry for your loss.
She was the best "person" I'd ever met...never had a bad thing to say, about anyone. A breath of fresh air, so to speak...
I think you were very fortunate to have known her, and thank you for sharing such soulful memories about her... ❤
Bryan McCulley deserves to go down in history too for his role in videotaping this. Without him this would have been completely lost. Thank you Bryan!
Besides her voice, one thing I admired about Eva was her uncanny ability to choose the right songs to cover. She had a very good ear for a good song, no matter what genre. You can tell she genuinely loved music and singing. I am so very sorry she is gone.
Me too. Few like her. Maybe it was good she was unrecognized by the Music Industry. We, who heard and listened and loved her...we will take her music on.
Indeed. Almost every song she covered sounds like it was made for her to sing.
She didn’t “cover” songs-she sang the hell out of them.
❤❤❤
I've been listening to her for over 20 years when her Songbird CD came out and she still blows me away and rips my heart out at the same time ...Everytime I hear her...We were very blessed to have had her and like a true artist she became famous after her death....I think she would've liked that....Thanks for the music Eva....💕💕
"Cover Artist?"....originals should pay homage to this interpreter of classic songs!
Couldn't have said it better.
Sting called Fields of Gold "her song" when he heard her rendition...
YES!!! She Reminds Me Of The Brilliance Of Bonnie Raitt...Her Blues Are 🔥🔥🔥! Eva - You Left Us TOO SOON!😢🙏🙏🙏🕊️
@@brianmi40 SECOND!!
She takes a song, massages it, chews it up, and spits it back out-and it's wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than before
Supremely talented.
Gone far too soon.
Amazing Cover of an Amazing song! I am a punk rocker, who loves 'Talking Heads' but was raised on the music of 'Al Green'! dx
WOW... Eva does the best version of every single song she performs. Unrivalled talent
Eva should be in the Hall of Fame where she is the ONLY member. She's in a class all by herself. Eva Cassidy, I was not aware of you when you were alive... and I will regret that for the rest of my life.
Attending this event would be the perfect use of a Time Machine.
Very clever comment! I couldn't agree more.
It should be compulsory as a first trip in a time machine.
Is there room for one more???
AMEN JOHN..! whew ..She was the best of the best! .. I've been a singer for 52 yrs... just small stuff cafes, restaurants, etc a10- 20 gigs a month.. I"m still at it.. Age 70 now.. but I still had 10 gigs a month going ( until PANDEMIC struck... lost all my gigs overnight starting March 10th (but just last week some places are booking music again (keeping my fingers crossed! At my age? WHO knows if i can get back in the rotation tho.. Time will tell)!
EVA! The MINUTE i found out about her (most folks learn of her via word of mouth and something hits you and you want to get her music asap! That's Just what happened to me. I was doing a backyard afternoon gig for someones birthday party in 2003 or so On my break someone told me about Eva and something about the way he talked about her made me feel compelled to hear her music On way home I stopped and picked up her "Songbird" CD . I opened it and put it in my car player and headed home. i loved the songs and her playing; I was bowled over! I wanted to keep driving so i did. Then Somewhere over the Rainbow came on .... I had to pull over... I was in full blown TEARS.. I mean full cry! She hit my heart so so hard!
.. that week and any time anything came our about her or was for sale on Internet I bought it. Her other CDs, the book about her, (her cousin put together I think), I got a copy of the BBC Documentary about her and I was on her cousins "webblog" page abut her. . I JUST wanted to know as much about Eva as I could.
When i heard there was filmed footage on UA-cam of Eva singing where she recorded " Live at Blues Alley" was over the moon happy . Finally i could see HER singing and playing (THANK GOD FOR whoever filmed that)
ALL I COULD THINK was how i'd give ANYTHING to have a " time machine" and be in that audience!
What a spark of light she was, what a talent . I do agree, as her mother, and others have said,, that NO WAY would she have liked what goes along with "FAME" ..Someone with that sensitive a nature, who naturally taps into the most precious human essence. .. should NEVER be in a business that often throws them to the wolves.. the "star-making machinery" (as Joni Mitchell so aptly put it. Joni was sensitive but also made of steel ) EVA was sensitivity personified though I believe.
It could have ruined her and that would have been horrible to see such a sensitive soul get shredded to pieces. She did her job--- leaving us with knowledge of how deep music is ingrained in all living creatures.. IT's so deep we know music was here long before any planet earth or humans existed. Ah don't get me started on the magic of music. LOL..
Anyway thanks for whate you posted John. I totally agree! And EVA, we love your girl.. thank you thank you thank you! In some other life I hope to meet you.
@@SUZANNESHEAMusicComedy Loved your comments. Eva was one of the best ever. That she had to die of bone cancer so early is beyond sad. A phenomenal talent gone way too soon.
Great talent. Gone too soon.
What an incredible and singular talent she was! She was ‘unboxable’ and beyond genres- a transcendental voice with a matching authentic personality. They offered her the world, if she had only conformed to their commercial vision, but she had the strength of the spirit and the moral fiber to remain true to herself and her music.
As Joseph Campbell would say, "That is the Hero's Path".
Absolutely, if only she'd gave in a little and not been so stubborn, Eva could have set the world on fire with her vocal abilities. I love to listen, she sings wit ease...effortless!
@@CAM0244 She did set the world on fire for those of us that could hear. I'm happy the path she chose.
@loop1479 Her name should've been up there in the spotlight as a Legend/Icon. (To me she was)...that's what I meant when I said set the world on fire 🔥...She wasn't given the world renowned recognition she deserved. I really enjoy listening to her beautiful voice!
I don't know why I love you like I do
After all the changes you put me through
Stole my money, my cigarettes
I haven't seen the worst of it yet
I wanna know boy, won't you tell me
Tell me how can I stay here with you
Won't you take me to the river
Wash me down
Take me to the river
Put my feet back on the ground
I don't know why you treat me so bad
After all the good times that we've had
You're sixteen candles that burn on my wall
Now who's the biggest fool of us all
I wanna know, won't you tell me
Tell me how can I stay here with you
Won't you take me to the river
Wash me down

Put my feet back on the ground

And you can tease me
Till I can't take it no more

How can you not love this songbird? R.I.P. Eva!!!
That was a very important night in musical history.
Steve Gibbons Those lucky people who were in that room that night!
Yep. Definitely yes!!!!
May be dead but by God, she is gold,..he best, will LIVE FOREVER.XX
She's the most creative female blues singer of all time!!!! Can't stop listening to her!!!
Most of her songs wasn't original, she took others songs and put her spin on them. Nevertheless anything she song no matter who originally did it, Eva did it better❣
Me too.
Eva was a master of so many musical styles- and a darn fine guitarist as well.

Thank you for this! I'm a big Eva fan and you posting the lyrics is a wonderful tribute to her and her music.
It impossible. I've heard one song by a coincidence. And you know what? I'm here for 2 hours. I love her! She was definitely special. Mayby God needed her for his choir in heaven.
There's still so many that don't know of her. A TV miniseries would be very cool. Her voice though, no actress could do what she does.
I did the same thing except it's been 3 & 1/2 hours & counting!!
@@lorihearonbowman609 I'm up nearly 9 I think+counting. She is amazing!
🎸😇
absolute perfection in her voice! and ability to play guitar/piano! incredible!
Eva Cassidy you have just blown my world apart what a voice wow wow wow. I am flying high from listening to you sing that song. Absolutely smashed it xxx
Smiles, hi Suzanne 🌺 😊
GOOSEBUMPS!!!! Darn it's midnight and I have to work tomorrow, don't want to stop listening. Love her guitar arrangements and her voice.
The music industry is so dumb. She turned down several offers because they wouldn't let her pick what songs she was going to do and how she was going to do them. Reminds me of an interview with Waylon Jennings. The interviewer asked him if he had any advice for budding musicians and he said "Play it the way you feel it." That is exactly what this incredible woman did.
Why did she have to go??? So much talent in all every style
She gives this one the full treatment...…..groovy band as well.
Rest in Peace Eva 🕊 Love her music. Amazing talent! Beautiful voice! ❤
Her version of Over the Rainbow is unmatched.
Smiles, hi Kathy 🌺 😊
Brilliant. Gone much too soon.
I hear a bit of Janis Joplin in her harder songs. But Janice could never sing Fields of Gold or Songbird like Eva. She is gold.
I never saw her, but I miss her so much..
SOOOOOO MUCH TALENT, AND SHE COULD HANDLE THAT AX AS WELL.R.I.P .BEAUTIFUL ONE .R.I.P EVA.THANKS FOR SHARING YOU GIFT WITH US ! J Deuce RnR Toronto Canada
Wasn't she just great . And left us with a parting gift of her talented performances, just wonderful .God bless her and keep her safe .
Eva was the bomb! What a voice...and so much passion.
Her voice and guitar takes me to another planet.....sooooo talented! Great band!!!
Just plain COOLNESS !!!
What magnificent talent. Any song, any genre . She left way too early. Love EVA..........! RESPECT...!
Smashed that out of the park, the county, the country and into space ;o)
She was absolutely amazing there was nothing he couldn’t sing. So sad she had to leave her life so young. R.I.P. Eva🙏🏽🕊♥️🌹♥️
Smiles, so so amazing Brenda, feels really great listening, how are you doing? 🌺 😊
She rocks my soul
Eva is simply amazing with her wide range of voice modulations.
Incredible!
The good rev. Al would surely approve. Her musical sensibility is scary good. The back up players did it right as well.
Eva Cassidy gained another fan in November 2020. This is my first time hearing her sing and I am in awe. May her voice live on forever.
Me too , 2021.
Welcome to The Magical Worldof Eva🥰 for me it was the 90’s
My God Thank you for this. Raice Macleod and Chris Biondo unhinged and in full force. This is the first song I loved from Eva Cassidy Band. I heard it in a small clothing shopping store inside Greenhills Shopping Center in Makati City, Philippines in 2001. Had to ask the store clerk what he's playing.
Listen to these guys on the live version of Stormy Monday, same album. Fabulous. Eva's awesome, so are the fellas. I hope they're still out there.
@@williammiller4653 The Nightbird recordings are incredible. What a singer, what a band!
Audiophile sound...and on this performance? Out of sight.
She has the band just slinging rhythm at the listeners,
then she jumps in with an incredibly inviting conversation.
good description
Eva, you already took the listeners
to the river of melody with with your
speed boat. It's a mesmerising
journey indeed.
She directly channels what Pirsig refers to as "dynamic quality".

Great version. Sang it myself; Mark laurens Take me to the river.. Please 👍
Awesome performance.

Effortless... I love her.
I just discovered her for my first time 3 weeks ago and I've been listening to her songs for like 50times and I'll be listening to her song till forever.
Yes, you will!
Nobody can sing a song like Eva. Amazing talent taken far to soon.
She died way too young ... Cancer took her away way too young... ❤️
It shivers to have the knowledge that a few months later she was already dead, during a concert without knowing it....
If we only have her audio - even just audio - of her singing Black Sabbath's Paranoid, oh man.
She is now one with the music 🌻
Eva take us to your ever flowing
river of music,melody and songs.
