I worked out. How to play this over the years mostly at the Early tapes speed but never worked out how to play the "Drum roll" near the end that you and Mark use. Where can I watch this in Slo-Mo?

There's a few videos on UA-cam, Perhaps simply search 'Mark King's' fast 16th's' or Mark King's slap technique...I just learn't it by trial and error and landed on something that works so I'm not entirely sure quite how to describe it.

This sounds more like the original " Mr Pink " though it needs a tad bit more treble & played a the timing it was recorded as Mark did play it at at a slower tempo as every Level 42 Fan's knows & once it became a regular while gigging its rarely not within their set when playing Live...
Apart from that you both nailed it & it's a great bass & drum cover that like 2 of their oldest songs has seen " Mr Pink & Love Games " become cult classics with the fans & I've never been to see them Live & both songs weren't played , as they are a must have part of their Live Shows...

Thanks for the comments. The tempo is around the same as the 1992 Guaranteed Level 42 tour speed. For the record I used the same gauge strings as MK. Definitely makes playing at the speed more doable.

      Hi ,
I had no aspirations to play bass guitar but I subconsciously stored all these amazing bass guitar & drumbeats & once I heard a specific bassist that was it for me & i dropped everything I was playing messing around with...
My main point is I never expected I'd play & absolutely love playing it & it felt natural to me but that aside I had to buy a bass guitar to start off but my country was going through another depression slighty similar to this Cost Of Living " status we all seem to be in...
I saved up what I could & I bought a bear up Columbus Jazz Bass Guitar from a local bassist who'd played in a Punk Band many many years earlier but I somehow got to hear about him selling it & though it wasn't the cheapest preowned bass guitar but I figured it'll do...
What he'll that bass guitar put me through helped me to play even better when I bought a more expensive & proper bass guitar a few years later but my point is I could hear what Mark King was playing (I forgot to mention but like many I was self taught) & I could find what he was playing on my fretboard but I could barely play any of bass lines as my City at that time only had a small City Centre with 1 Instrument Store in it but to cut this short I lived quite a few miles away from the City Centre & I knew of no one else who played bass guitar but I didn't find out for years that Mark King used 30 To 90 bass strings & I think he mentioned on their anniversary tour that messed around with strings of various slightly tighter strings but it's difficult to find out the truth on Internet Stories as many are bogus & Full Of BS...
Being isolated as I was I didn't even know I could buy lighter strings & it was after finding this out along with buying a high end new bass guitar with 30 To Strings on it that I could play his bass lines the way they were meant to but the downside was I got use doing pull offs & other techniques on those very hard & thicker gauges that I never really got over snapping my 30 or 50 strings as I was used to at least trying to do slap with heavy gauge strings & like I said I had no idea there were various gauges as this was well before the Internet started & found out certain this by word of mouth & changing to the 30 To 90 was so much easier but unfortunately by hard way of playing because of my older bass guitar made me pull too hard when playing slap...
Though I'll admit a few years ago I found i had mellowed over the year's & my approach to play bass guitar with such light strings wasn't as bad as it used to be...
I managed to obtain a nice selection of bass guitars but on some I have heavy string/medium strings , & of course , lighter strings as I don't like playing too much on 30 To 90 gauges of strings as I soon got used to them & when I tried to play my bass guitars set up with higher gauge strings I had lost the power , if you will , to play on those bass guitars as I got too used to 30 To 90 gauge & it's always good to try something like that come us on our toes...
Well it'll soon be Christmas & The The New Year in 11 days so I'll Wish A Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year For 2023 Now...
" All The Best & keep up the good work "

@Mandosami when I heard it, I immediately thought of the '92 performance, imo the best version of the song I've ever heard (they were on fire in that concert). As to the bass tone, this fat sound is much closer to the Jaydee! Love it! Mark's graphite basses don't do it for me, though I hear they're better live.

@@fragwagononce upon a time I owned a MK signature Jaydee. Was such a nice tone but I struggled with the neck thickness. What I wouldn't give to play this on an Alembic though. If only I could find one to play, let alone own! The 92 version was the best. That and the A Physical Presence live version are my favourites
