Seasir has made some decent budget reels for sure! They seem to have kind of stream lined and updated some of their reels ever so slightly which is pretty awesome to see. Great review as always and cheers my friend!
@@TheConstantAngler it’s pretty impressive what these affordable reels can do. Makes me wonder what the next big innovation is going to be as casting performance just keeps getting better and better! Loved watching you catch all those salt species. Out of curiosity, do you ever eat any of them or just for sport?
You might be able to change the bearings to ceramic bearings and get it to cast smoother and lighter lures, sacrifice a bit of distance though. I just ordered this reel as my first bfs reel paired it with a mavllos delicacy rod and it's a little over $50 USD. Going to make loads of videos on it. I've been spoiled and have used my friend's various $600-900 BFS combo's as well as his $150-300 range bfs combo's. Bet i'll catch more than him with this $50 combo lol. Cheers dude you got a new subscriber. Stay tuned for my episode.
Thanks for the video, I have the Acura 50 and the bigger Dark Wolf 150 (not 50). Is the Commando closer in size with the Acura 50, or is it bigger? Is the spool compatible with the GKA 200? Thanks!
The Commando not sure how big in relation to the DW150 but it is the next size up from the Acura. I am pretty certain the spool is compatible with the GKA200 as it is with the misurelure
I've got the KK valiant 2, and i can cast those 3 grams lures very far. It was more expensive, like 70 bucks, but i don't regret the buy. I don't know if it performs well in saltwater.
I’ve used mine in saltwater. I have 2 VE2. I spray them off after each trip. Take off spool plate and take out the spool. I then wipe around the spool lip with a damp cloth to remove salt. Add a little grease or oil to the levelwind mechanism.
@@TheConstantAngler did you find a reel that outperforms the VE2 for less than 100 bucks ? I am new to BFS and it's the only one that i've got. Thank you for the saltwater answer, and in advance for the answer to my second question.
@slabslapper8507 The Valient Eagle isn’t as well made as the Zephyr but it has tighter tolerances and is a much more compact reel. Some say it is over braked but only if you consistently through sub 2gr lures. It is actually hard to birdsnest. The Commando is a fantastic reel for the money. Really smooth like the Acura but more the size of the Zephyr. Again I ended up tweaking the brakes by adding 2-3 magnets. Now it is a fantastic reel.
@@lalo1704 I use mine regularly in saltwater. I tighten the drag and spray over with a water bottle. I then take the side plate off and whilst covering the spool I spray my braided line, before wiping around the rim of the spool and frame with a damp cloth. I leave it apart to dry and make sure to loosen the drag again so as not to crush the carbon washers. When I have put it back together I add a little oil to the bearings if required or grease to the level line mechanism. I do this every trip. I don’t use it every week more like a couple dozen times a year.
Hey mate, what do you specifically look for in what would be deemed a saltwater safe reel? Stainless shielded bearings? What about the Man gear material?
Brass for a main gear is good and Aluminium can be, so most of the reels we use shoudn't be too bad. I guess because i generally use budget reels i do not worry too much. I spray them off after each trip and make sure i pay attention to the level wind plus spool and its rim. To be honest i don't have many problems but i am not using my reels day in day out and probably once or twice a month. This would be a great question for my group BFS Budget Finesse Fishing. Why not ask it and i will add it to the guides. While we are at it you are very welcome to post your videos on it mate.

I'm just concerned with the aluminum main gear..well its suposed to be brass right?will aluminum main gear stand the wear and tear? I just want to know your thoughts about the main gear.
Sorry its taken me a while to get back to you. I agree that maybe brass will last longer but alot of these reels have Aluminium main gears these days and I have not heard of any problems with them. I guess it depends on how much and what you use it for, alongside how well the gearing is manufactured. Im guessing whatever they state it will be the same as that in many budget reels. As it is so cheap at the minute i think you have little to loose. ive not experienced any problems with mine but I am not using it week in week out. hope that helps.
Got the Brownie already and pretty happy with it. Do I need another reel? Probably... d;-) Q: Does the spare spool on the Commando fit the Brownie? -would be useful. What do you think of light flourocarbon straight through? Fantastic review, thank you!
@@TheConstantAngler Pity. BTW - did a spool bearing upgrade on my Zephyr and man, it casts far better now (smaller lures and better distance) with almost no backlash issues.
@@TheConstantAngler Got my Commando and put in ceramic hybrid bearings on the spool and it is rolling much better IMO. Takes same size bearings as my Zephyr. Just a good possible upgrade to go with your magnets.
I’m not sure exactly as I didn’t measure it out, but as far as any other reel that size. It depends on the rod you are using. If it is designed to throw lures that size then good distances. It has a free running spool so probably further than others.
