I dont understand how this podcast has only 8k subscribers in YT. It is so underrated. Im enjoining it while it lasts. Feels like that sweet, unknown fushing spot. It's only a matter of time.
Can we get a community pick topic ever 2 weeks or so. You guys put 4 topics and people vote for it to be talked about in a podcast (ie arrow weight, broahead tuning, torque tuning, saddle v tree stand)
I like the organic nature of your conversations. Guests are nice once in a while. Don’t change a thing.
Completely agree..talk to people your intrested in talking too
Try the Kuiu Kutana pant. They are comfortable and light weight
It’s amazing how many things get discussed here with absolutely no purpose, no point, no goal. what exactly do you wanna know is reguards to “what I think” about a western slam??? I think what I think of it….now what? You gonna go for your slam? Cool. But can you share why? Again, no point, no purpose, no goal, thus no meaning. So what are we doin’ here? Burning time we’ll never get back.
Nothing wrong with choosing excellence.
Nothing wrong with deciding to be orderly and organized.
Nothing wrong with being intentional and purposeful about anything we do or say.
We get the time we have, and when it’s gone it’s gone.
Love you Josh🤘🏼
Yall need to check out the Sitka intercept pant. Lightweight merino wool/nylon ripstop blend. Lightweight pants like their old apex pant but more durable and quiet.
You both should try Vuni camo out of Utah
Kuiu and sitka were founded by same person Jason hairston. When he sold sitka and founded kuiu it seems like he figured out ways to improve what he was doing. Reminds me of Dan Evans with trophy's taker and now doing option archery.
Exactly. He stepped away from Sitka because they were becoming too commercial and not what he wanted. He was on Joe Rogan before he passed
Yeah for sure I don't think many realize he founded both. It's a bummer what happened
Tim’s Hunting Slam:
Bear (brown or black)
2 Deer (any 2 of mule or black tail or white tail)
Elk (any variety)
Antelope
Difficulty modifiers:
Doing all with bow
Doing all in a year
Doing it every year for 5, 10 or 20 years consecutively
Yes it’s, “easy” but doing it every year for many years is hard. It’s attainable for even the most budget guy, but can be modified to be as difficult as need be for anyone.
I’m a noob and bought a bow at sva! Justin was the man! Had I listened to more, I’d have made different choices. I’d love to be on the pod as a total noob and my experience. Just saying. I drive a truck and will be there at some point.
8 or 9am for hunting, I’m ready for my first nap by then 😂.
Congratulations! That’s awesome! You guys keep every episode intriguing and I learn something new every time I watch, whether for archery, equipment and setup.
Congrats! I’ve loved listening every Monday morning 👍
Try the kuiu tiberon pants for hot weather. Awesome pants
There's elk all over the east coast of the United States up and down even in the Kentucky. They're almost worldwide in America
31:20, suggestion; Can we open the Fireside Chat up to Q&A maybe once a month? The brilliance of this podcast is the overwhelming amount of knowledge Josh possesses. This doesn’t discount Tim’s input in this regard, his “average joe” take on the questions will likely lead to a better understanding of the answers given.
All in all, I love the seat of the pants style of this podcast. It truly is one of the only podcasts I actively look forward to weekly and consume almost primarily via UA-cam.
Just a thought maybe others will chime in. 🤷🏻♂️
along with this I use to look forward to the pinch point with Justin Zarr but it barely lasted a year sadly
The PA grand slam is Blackbear, whitetail buck, and a turkey! Keep it simple although it is hard as hell here. Keep up the good content boys. Flying by the seat of your pants is not an issue. Keep em comin!
Yep and turkey is also considered large game animal
I live in Florida, so my input is perhaps moot; but, if I were to chose the animals for a western slam I would say: any subspecies of deer (whitetail, blacktail, mule deer), antelope, any species of Elk, black bear - and I’d be open to the argument for mountain lion. Personally growing up in PA and now living in FL it is hard for me to imagine the drive to hunt a mountain lion. I’m not opposed, but I don’t understand the population stats of western lions.
I use Crye Precision pants. Yes, they are really expensive, but they hold up and have great features. I've have a pair that have lasted over ten years and still are in great shape to least for several more years.
Tuning in from the great state of Maine! I believe Origin does make a wool pant. Love the pod guys keep it up!
I love all the podcast. Tim you have all the same curiosities that i do. And it seems like josh knows everything lol. I learn something new almost everytime i listen.
My step dad has been talking about a "Grand Slam" the last couple years, I just thought he was making stuff up. His idea of a "Grand Slam" is a black bear, deer (Blacktailed), and elk (Roosevelt). We're from Oregon Central Coast/Valley. He's a rifle hunter, but I think a true Grand Slam would be through archery if it were those three because it is all in the same 30 days (60 for bear). Just like a Grand Slam only happens when the bases are loaded in baseball, everything has to line up just right. Also I'm stealing "Piss Pounded", I've never heard that before in my life so thanks Tim for expanding my vocabulary. Hahah
Good chapter guys. To me dealership implies location, like a brick and mortar store. If you're collecting vinyl you have to have Frampton comes alive. 😁 Keep up the great work.
Good on Jocko. There is also acal clothing for day to day clothing mostly shirts and pants all from america. Good blue collar clothing as well.
In ma we can only hunt spring turkey till noon. North east birds tend to shut up once on the ground henned up
Personally if you don't mind solid color pants try the kuiu sierra guide pants. Very quiet and durable. I use them for both daily ware and hunting
The western slam is interesting idea, would be really hard to pull off though especially in states where you dont pull antelope tags every year.
Great podcast and good job Tim on the Turkey woulda been epic the “$500 bow Turkey” 😂😂🤷♂️
Crazy idea!… Perhaps try your hands at Trad Archery??? American Longbow or Barebow Recurve?… Hmmm… 🤔
Loving the idea of a Western Slam... turkey (maybe antelope instead), bear, deer, elk.
So I agree with Josh on the type if it's going to be a western slam
Congratulations on a year. MFJJ since we share a size 15 in common. There are a lot of companies that offer our size.
Agree the attack pant is amazing I wear it everyday.
Yes we have a Sitka store in Atlanta GA
Talking about fun hunts that you are nit killing yourself on you should look into Arizona Javelina hunting in January, very fun hunt, easy to have success with a group, weather is amazing, and you can have a deer tag in your pocket at the same time! On top of being a very easy and affordable tag for non residents to get
Yeah, I'd like to know what you guys think about first light compared to Sitka. This was really interesting to me Josh. Thank you because I haven't bought any good brand of hunting stuff yet. I just have some of my old mossy oak and that that was good mossy oaks stuff in Browning but it wasn't top of the line so I'm going to be buying a set here and I really enjoy hearing this from you guys. Thank you. Maybe you could inform if you know anything about first light
For your western Grand Slam I agree with Josh 100% RM Elk, Antelope, Mule Deer, Mountain lion, Black Bear. Then depending on how the year goes. Get yourself a turkey and make everyone happy. 👌🏻
I definitely think retail is close to dead for our industry. The sportsmans around us here in Utah (sportsmans headquarters) is so bad they rarely have more than 3 people working anymore. And do most business online. The only reason they are still a storefront is their FFL pickup
I wish yaw would have me as a guest average dude just getting back really in to archery and 3d at the age of 53 let’s go guys
Elk are in the East. Pennsylvania has them with a season.
WAIT, MFJJ girlfriend!?!?! we need details
No, no we don't
Those sitka pants didnt work how i expected them too. I had 2 ticks on the pants from 4 days ago
What model pant? Not all are treated
It’s such a marketing gimmick. You can buy permethrin from any outdoor store and treat all your clothes yourself
First lite is coming out with there “308” series of pants soon and look to be sweet
I have Frankensteined a decent clothing system together between Sitka, Kuiu, and firstlite and it works really well. But either company doesn't make a pant that fits which is frustrating.
But I feel MFJJs issues about boots. I have the same issue and it sucks.
I’d like Josh to talk on the percentage you can go on limbs safely like if we have a 60,70 or 80lb limbs how far can we go at home to not mess up! Example I have a 60lb bow that’s at 69lbs and has shot fine with no issues and that’s more than 10% on that 60lbs so I was just curious! I have a new alpha x 30 at 80 and was wondering how high I could go safely!
Unfortunately, I have missed more Mariam’s with a bow than I’ve killed with a shotgun. Still prefer the stick and string challenge though
Great episode!
I wear 15 ,s as well you are so right about that are they spelled crispy cause I need a pair, great content and God bless,.
Great idea on the slam it's really choice,
Kuiu Katana pants are amazing
Im traditionally a big early morning hunter and last September i was taking that amazing middle day nap on the edge of a meadow basking in the sun nap the best. Low and behold a few elk catch me slippin while im napping. So morel of the story sleep less 😂 drink more coffee
Alberta Bowhunters Association does a big game super slam every year.
Typically slams are lifetime achievement. I agree with Josh it’s too easy.
Antelope, mule deer, black bear, Rocky Mountain elk, maybe merriam. Mountain lion isn’t a western specific animal
Black tail deer I believe are far more "western" and more difficult to kill with a bow than a mule deer.
Equinox pants and shirt are treated from Sitka
Y’all should put some time stamps
Turkeys are most definitely considered big game
Ii think there might be a west. Slam
The date on Fireside Chat number 1 was April 17th so you’re way over a year
Russell Moccasin, American made heritage. Look em up.
Do a tech tip :)
Mfjj is missing out! Turkey hunting is fun especially with a bow
Mfjj is the final say to all things in his mind 😂😂
Gotta take black bears off that grand slam list. They’re hunted a lot in the East.
If it's a western slam, you need antolope
You guys need to check the boots he made Joe Rogan .. he was able to make origin boots out of the elk hide from joes last elk
Ticks are now joke, my wife actually got a red meat allergy from a tick bite during hunting season.
Kuiu kutana pants
Two legs and two wings don’t make it equal to four legged animals, nice try Tim lol
Just wear panty hose fore ticks
We have a slam here in Maine that is a turkey, bear, moose and a whitetail deer. TIM you’re wrong twice… the hunting season’s are short, hunt every minute you can lazy@$$ and 2. You definitely cheated with a shotgun!! 🤣🦃🫎🐻🦌
