Thanks! I think it’s a lot better axe than the gb and hb, they are decent but using them was exactly why I thought there needed to be better options - definitely didn’t satisfy my axe itch ;). I think down to the person, everyone who has come on a course and used them side by side agrees.. on a side note I’ve had 2 gb axez break on courses! One the head flew off, second the handle split..and for a similar sized Swedish axe (not the small ones) it’s actually not that much more

@@BlueGorillaInTheMist about a pound and a half with the option to select (or swap) a 16 or 20” handle (I like them 20”) . Cutting edge on the “wolverine” will be close to the same as the larger “moose” axe

Haha I have made them and they are definitely better than nothing ;). Though I guess modern packs are more comfortable over the long haul

I apologize in advance, but this is nonsense. One-sided sharpening for a taiga ax does not play any role. With such an ax it will be inconvenient for you to chop. Such sharpening is relevant for knives and small, light and carpentry one-handed axes. The Evenks adopted the axes from the Russians. And before the Russians came to their lands, they used "palmа" instead of axes. This is such a machete with one-sided sharpening on a long shaft.
A Palma or “koto” in Evenki. That is what they used in the past, and one of the guys had his grandparents koto he put on a handle. Very cool, though not often used anymore. But that is different from the axes they use day in and out in the taiga. We built scores of kilometers of fence with just axes and they use them every day! For firewood, bushcrafting, etc etc. every one had a single bevel, which I really grew to like (the Russians don’t do that, but the Evenki do) And the one sided grind is extremely useful for a number of reason, though - center is available for the skeptics ;). It might not be for everyone and can take some getting used to, but has clear advantages - calling it nonsense makes me think you haven’t used it, are unaware of the advantages, or are universalizing your personal preference. It’s absolutely not inconvenient to chop with btw - especially on trees that are 8” and under - which in true wilderness situations you rarely have reasons to cut larger ones. But that takes experience and an understanding of what is actually done in wilderness living. (As opposed to, say, logging situations)
@@hobojordo I've never sharpened a blade like this, I'm afraid to spoil the axes. I got these axes from my grandfather, who was a carpenter, cut down a house, a bathhouse, a barn with one ax and despised those who sawed cup logs with a chainsaw instead of chopping them with an ax. Versatility does not mean that it is also effective. A man should have at least 5 different axes in his house, and each ax should be suitable for its own tasks.
@@nickscavenger I would of never thought to until I lived with the Evenki either, but grew to really like and prefer it for the “do it all” axe. Varied axes is, of course, ideal: but that’s not possible in wilderness living situations ala Alone and in the backcountry .. it’s hard to get people to even pack one 😆. That said, pretty much everyone on my courses who has used these side by side with the standard Gransfors Bruks and other common bushcraft axes has preferred these..
But I’m not forcing anyone into liking them: I just know I do and don’t want to use anything else ;)
@@hobojordo With axes, it's clear. What can you say about the Evenk knife? Can you make a video in detail, why such a blade, such a sharpening, etc. I used such knives and I liked it especially in skinning
