Great job guys, thanks for making this video. Wood Tamer is the best company to deal with for all my carving needs, their service and advice is next level 👌
Very useful for me to learn this info. So, now to search your followup video and see the difference the grind makes. What do you think of one sided bevels? As in flat on the left face for example, and a 25-30deg bevel on the other side?
This is very helpful! My question is, if you don’t want to eventually end up with a concave shape, would you sharpen using a flat stone versus the wheel? I’m very new to all of this 😁
The beauty of a flat over hollow grind is that it is easy to maintain a sharp edge with regular stropping and an occasional touch up on your choice of flat surface sharpener. Once the hollow disappears and starts to become convex (over time with stropping and sharpening) I just take my axe back to the wheel and grind it to flat over hollow again.
Great video!

Thanks 🙏 this is very helpful…
My pleasure
Flat over hollow will turn into a flat grind if you sharpen by hand only. Once it hits the tormek you can get it back to flat over hollow.
Good explanation, Chris. Does this principle apply to knives too?
That was really helpful, thank you!
I’ve always wondered about this!!
