THE DASH 7 STOL EXPERIENCE - Air Tindi Full Flight Vancouver to Abbotsford

- On August 10th, an aviation enthusiast charter flight was organized on board an Air Tindi de Havilland Canada Dash 7, a short hop from Vancouver International Airport to Abbotsford, during the Abbotsford Airshow.
For many, this was the only way to fly a Dash 7 within Canada as Air Tindi uses them on charter flights up north mostly, and it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up!
About 30 of us signed up for this once-in-a-lifetime avgeek experience, flying from Vancouver to Abbotsford early that morning, staying the day in Abbotsford for the show, before flying back to Vancouver in the evening.
While I sat on the other side in seat 4A on this leg, I left a GoPro rolling to capture the wonderful wing view from the first row on the right side of the aircraft.
There were some beautiful sights as we flew over downtown Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. And of course, a thrilling high performance takeoff and a super short landing roll to top it all off.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the Dash 7 experience!

A perfect video. No music, no looking up someones nose while they explain things. Thank you for such a great video!! P.S. I don't mind talking I just hate looking up someones nose while they do it.
Ahh..the sound of dash-7’s propeller engine roaring sound from inside the cabin..a lullaby for me, my childhood memories..Thank you for uploading, great video!
You Canadians really have a cool aviation scene! I never even knew about the Dash 7 until now, and boy do I wish it flew in the states. Hello from your neighbor to the south!
Hello from your northern neighbour
Canadians have manufactured and designed the DHC-2 Beaver, a DHC-3 Otter, a DHC-4 Caribou, DHC-5 Buffalo, the quintessential DHC-6 Twin-Otter, the STOL airliner Dash-7, the STOL-ish Dash-8, and the too long Q-400.
I have flown on Dash 7s plenty of types as a kid. I have known about the plane for 35 years at the time of this post. What always impressed me as a kid was how fast the plane could get airborne and how quiet it was in flight. It was one of the few aircraft I was always excited to fly on as a kid. I have studied Aircraft since I was 3, and had a Beechcraft Baron 58 from 3 - 5 years old. Since I was the CEO of Dylan Air, Inc(company was ... even though my stepfather bought the aircraft, on paper it belonged to me.
Rocky Mountain Airways used Dash 7 from the old Denver Stapleton International Airport back in the day.
Watching the props is absolutely hypnotic!! I could stare at this for hours
They were simply outstanding. Rocky Mountain Airways served Grand Island, Nebraska for awhile in the 1980s and I flew on the Dash 7 each week for several months to Denver. A real pleasure. Such great engineering. Thanks for posting!
Loved Rocky Mountain "Scareways"! They also flew DHC -6 Twin Otters, which I'd hear flying over my house.
15:51 I love it when she comes up on the oleo's when they put the power on. All glory to the PT6A!
The STOL capabilities on this bird is crazy! Loved when the pilot announced the short takeoff performance! A report I enjoyed very much! Well done👍
I had the pleasure of flying Plymouth (grass runway) to London in one of these - £10.00 standby ticket in 1980! By far the fastest accelerating aircraft I have experienced to this day.
They do go up and come down insanely quickly - what a little beauty!
Is that why they used them on the Heathrow-Plymouth-Newquay run? Brymon?
Perfect short landing. Great one!
I was one of the people standing by the fence at 47:26, lol. I got a video of you taxiing past!
Thanks Alex for sharing. Very nice video's. Greatings from The Netherlands
I flew from Heathrow to Newquay and back on a Dash7 back in the 90s. A brilliant flight both ways and a surprising short landing at Heathrow.
About 6 mins in and love it lucky you
Ahhh...oui...Thank you so much Alex for this video ! 👍
I love watching the gear doors close. It's like a bomb door. Bombardier....
I love the Dash-7. Got lucky enough to travel aboard this gorgeous 4 engines turboprop on Air Canada ( Boston --> Yarmouth --> Halifax for example ), quite frequently... What a plane !! Sturdy, comfortable, quite silent, pleasant to fly in bad weather... It's sad that there are so few left now.... Thanks for this beautiful video
Nice one as always, Alex!
I am Colombian and I was lucky enough to travel in that four-engined plane. I traveled on dash 7 from Barranquilla to La Guajira region round trip during my childhood.
Así es, Javier. Yo también tuve el privilegio de ser pasajero en estos aviones cuando vivía en Mushaisa. Me gustaba también la escala en Puerto Bolívar que lo tomé como sorpresa.
Love the avgas smell inside cabin
Wow my favorite plane
I've always wanted one lol. Figured at with sufficient money/use-case etc, it was the best aircraft for taking a fair bit of stuff to the most places.
2:41 extra legroom. Watching this and referring to google maps for landmarks. 22:00 onwards Vancouver and Stanley Park 28:00, Port Moody. Indeed a short landing.
Great Video! Seemed like extremely short take-off!
The people in Abbotsford are very fortunate to have such a fine airshow. I very much would like to attend someday, but since I live in SW Florida that wouldn't be easy. Unless, of course, a Dash 7 came and picked me up from KSRW before the airshow and flew me to there next year!
These planes could land and takeoff from sidewalks....
If I won a million dollars, I'd buy a Dash 7. This plane's awesome.
In the 1980's up to the mid 2000's, an ExxonMobil company had two Dash 7 charter planes for workers and their families that connected from a private airport that leads to a coal mine in northern Colombia to Barranquilla and Puerto Bolívar, the latter where the coal is exported.
This model is the first thing I knew about what an airplane is and how it looks like. I enjoyed the round trips than paying for an 8 hour drive. The last time I boarded one was in June 2001 when I left the company town as a kid.
Excellent video! Greetings from Greece !
Impressive landing wow stopped on a sixpence.
WOW! They could land that on an aircraft carrier sideways!! Landed at the airshow within the performance envelope! Outstanding!
That was about 8 sec from start of roll to rotate!!!!
Love the video
Airborne by 1000ft markers, impressive.
Wow. I had this playing on low volume while dealing with a an over-excited friend's phone call. It was an interesting backdrop to something else. Then you're landing and it looked like a Mosquito was parked in a row of other aircraft ... whoa.
Great work on capturing this rare aircraft Alex and it's awesome you flew on the dash eight 300s I'm going to miss them in the future what will replace them also plan to travel anywhere else Delores
Epic video man!
16.00 to 16.17 short take off
Awesome video man
I love this Airplane 😎🧡
I'm here wondering why the #3 Engine was started during taxing?🤔
Great video!
I actually got to sit right seat in a Dash-7 . An awesome air plane . Really need to make more for regional routes .
Took more fuel taxiing than the actual flight ??
Sorry for bringing up this 4 year old thread but am curious to know what runway was that for take off and what flight plan (what waypoints) did the pilots use to get great view of city landscape, please?
Why are people taking this flight? It's a 50min drive if I'm not mistaken.
that takeoff only took like 6 feet of runway
Wow this plane is very quiet. 😮
I will be doing a video on WestJet’s fleet Alex, so would you mind helping me the 767 and Max photos and videos?
Im sorry for judging but you like elevators?
Yes that is true.
You don’t have to judge me anymore no one even.
Thing literally took off in 50ft
this is just a normal takeoff in gta
Sounds like C130
Bizarre que le pilote start le moteur juste avant de décoller ? Il ménage leurs Pratt and Whitney ??? Hihihihihi ! 👀👍😉
Airspeed alive.. rotate...
Short hop eh
Do you have to also speak French if you fly a de Havilland? I always wanted a Twin Otter.
The aircraft operator is based in Canada, where English and French are the official languages.
Pilots don't need to speak french normally, but the Flight attendants do.
I love plane but, I don't have money to fly. I hope someday my dreams would come true. Amennnnnnn.
?
Nice style engine's, ruined by big ugly exhaust on top of engine, looks like a hideous growth
