    I just started my Bachelor of Cyber Security and Information Assurance yesterday all thanks to you, I hope I can graduate in six months. I finished all my general ed classes and went straight to the core classes of the degree. I used Sophia learning and Coursera to finish all my general ed courses to use as Transfer credit. I would watch this video a couple of times just to make sure I can get as much done before starting. Shooting to finish by March 2023. Hey Denisse. I would try to get CompTIA Security+ (or at least study the material for it) before enrolling. That curriculum will provide the foundation for information security and will make a lot of things more easy to understand in the future. For free content, I might recommend professor messer. For some nice paid content, I'd recommend CBT nuggets!

      CBT Nuggets Security+: www.cbtnuggets.com/it-training/comptia/security-plus
      In addition to this, for fun, I'd recommend listening to All of Darknet Diaries podcast episodes (if you find that you like them). Super entertaining, and really gives you insight into the world of cybersecurity.

I definitely want to enroll into this program. I just started this week by taking some external courses with fundamentals of this area on HarvardX, edX and Skills academy. Merry Christmas Josh, I hope you and your family have a Happy Holidays. I'm just now seeing this video, after speaking with you on your other video about "How to get a Degree in 6 Months| (WGU Bachelor's or Master's." It was about obtaining some CompTIA certs, if I transfer to WGU. RIght now I'm trying to get my B.S. in Cyber Security, I was planning on transfering to WGU afterwards to go for my Masters. Now I'm thinking about transfering next summer to WGU to go for my B.S. there and then my Masters. I have my A+ and Net+, I would like a chance to get the other ones under my belt. The school I'm in now, most of the professor don't believe I should obtain certifications for the career field in cyber security. Now, I'm considering to go to WGU in the summer, by then I should have 114 credits. Can you give me some advice on this matter, or should I transfer before the start of the Spring 2022 term?

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 роки тому +1

      Happy Holidays to you too! Thank you so much!
      _>The school I'm in now, most of the professor don't believe I should obtain certifications for the career field in cyber security. _
      I wonder what their reasons for this is? Sounds kinda strange that professors would say this. As to whether or not you should transfer, I would at least get in touch with an enrollment counselor and have them evaluate your current transcript to see what things look if you were to enroll. I tend to recommend WGU to people since you can save so much time and money. I think certs play an integral role in getting that first job. Of course you can get by without them, but they help so much initially.
      Check out this video if you haven't already: How to get into cyber from zero (checklist): ua-cam.com/video/a83ASGn_V_s/v-deo.html
      FWIW a BS with Certs is generally _much_ better than a BS and MS with no certs. Best of luck!

    I'll be starting this degree on November 1st. I really appreciate this video. I'll be transferring the A+, N+, and S+ in so that should save me some time. I have a feeling the Project+ is going to be one of the first certs I'll have to go through in this degree.
    What are your thoughts on that cert, and as far as the test goes where would you rank it compared to the other comptia tests you've taken in terms of difficulty?
    Thanks for the content I appreciate it.

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  3 роки тому +3

      Hey Justen, congrats, and good for you bringing in all those certs. Project+ sucked a lot for me and I really struggled with it mostly because it was so boring. It wasn't that hard, being a CompTIA cert, it was just super hard to study. Maybe like a 4/10 difficulty. These days, I would probably use Anki to study and commit the boring stuff to memory. Assuming you have the time, I might recommend beginning to study for it now, so that once you register, you don't have to spend your precious time-in-term studying for it, and you can just take it immediately. Google for this and see if you can find anything good: PK0-004 site:quizlet.com
      Best of luck!

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  3 роки тому +5

      Hey Bruno! Yep, that's the same one. What I did for it, is just study a bunch of random practice questions I found on the internet prior to enrolling. Then once I was enrolled, I just immediately took the cert for free and passed it, haha.
      Here is somewhere to start: quizlet.com/561875974/ceh-v11-flash-cards/
      In addition. just make sure you know all of the nmap commands, and maybe check out what other people on reddit are saying about it.
      Reddit posts: www.google.com/search?q=passed+CEH+v11+site%3AReddit.com&oq=passed+CEH+v11+site%3AReddit.com&aqs=chrome..69i57.4458j1j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
      The same kinda strategy can be done for the Forensics class, as it's based on CHFI. Best of luck with it! And thanks for viewing :)

      Hey Anthony, thanks for watching! This is definitely a good degree to go for, as it will teach you a lot of the basics of IT as well as a rounded body-of-knowledge for cyber security. The only caveat to this is this degree is a bit more difficult than most of the other BS degrees that WGU offers due to the sheer number of certifications. If I was seriously considering it, I might try to get CompTIA Security+ on my own to see if it's something like doing (self-studying security stuff and see if you enjoy security in general). I’ve been saving up money now that I can work full time at a restaurant but plan on enrolling next winter. But I wanted to know what I could do in the meantime to get better in the field. Should I learn to code? Which language would be better to learn?

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  3 роки тому +3

      Hey Raul! Congrats to you! To get better in the field, in the mean time, you could:
      a) Study the CompTIA Security+ curriculum from Professor Messer (free) or CBTNuggets (this one costs money)
      b) Do some beginning courses on HackTheBox.
      c) Do the eJPT (junior pentester) course from INE.
      d) Listen to Darknet Diaries podcast, just to get mentally into the field
      I always recommend people to learn code, as for the language, if I had to pick a language on the spot, I would probably recommend you learn python. However I will say, when you learn one language, it becomes super easy to learn the next one. The hardest thing about learning programming is more conceptual and less to do with the language, so once you learn one, it's easy to just jump languages.

      Hello! Doing the Accelerated program (BS+MS) is going to be faster than just doing the cyber BS alone. The cyber BS is a bit tough because of the certs. If you really want to get a masters degree, I would probably go with the accelerated program. If you really feel like going hard into cyber afterwards, you can just pick up some extra certs (such as PNPT or CISSP, etc.). I honestly wouldn't recommend getting a second masters degree unless you just want to have it. Hope this helps!

IMO, that bootcamp is too expensive unless your company or the govt is paying for it.

    I was considering going into WGU's master's in cybersecurity program, because I already have a bachelor's degree in health, but I'm considering going for WGU's bachelor's in cybersecurity. I'm currently studying for my associate's degree in IT and I wasn't sure if I should just go ahead and go for their master's degree because it would make me more marketable, but I also saw that the bachelor's in cybersecurity program has a NCAE designation but the master's does not. Do you think this designation and the certs from the bachelor's program would make it more marketable and valuable than the master's?
    In my situation where I already have a bachelor's degree, do you think the master's is better because it could save me some time?
    I'm also currently working full-time as an IT support specialist so I'm not sure since it seems like the master's program would have some advanced concepts and I just started working in IT.

      Hey Ngoc! I will say the BSCSIA (bachelors) is better than the masters in almost every way. The masters curriculum really lined up well with my 100k+ cyber jobs that I've had, but I feel the curriculum is more suited for after you're kind of already established in your career. I don't really pay attention to accreditation for IT degrees honestly, but the NCAE on the BS is a plus. However, the certs the BSCSIA offers are REALLY good, and that degree itself will help you more than the MS at this point, IMO. Having said that, since you already have a bachelors and area already working in IT, you _MIGHT_ just want to pick up some certs instead of doing a whole other BS--it's basically up to you though. I have a double bachelor's myself and I don't really regret it.
      Another option is, skipping the BS, getting a couple certs, then getting the masters, just to have it. Sorry, I said a bunch of nothing, but I hope this helps a bit haha.
