- Making Staghorn Sumac tea during a day hike. Wild edible warning. Don't eat or drink anything unless you know for sure and I don't count. LOL! Also had a failure with the Squeeze bag so used a Smartwater bottle as a backup.

Great video! Guess what this weekend going back to loft mountain skyline drive and I am going to camp over night. I am very excited. Thanks again for the videos.😀
A planned accident? Brilliant way to introduce people to the backup system for the Sawyer. And, I for one, learned about a new tea. Keep smilin'
Nope just happened. The bag totally failed and this is a first for me. I am sure it was back flushed last time yet seemed harder than usual. I prefer the Squeeze over the mini on a side note. Edit to add I learned of the Sweetwater Squeeze combo on the Appalachian Trail . Seemed like the preferred setup.
Excellent one! I love woods wisdom. I don't think you will ever run out of interesting video ideas. Did your pack feel lighter and your gait lengthen? Did song rise from your heart? Was you aim true? Enjoy!
Thanks!
Staghorn Sumac tea is awesome. Thanks again, Kevin!
Thanks. I know you made some.
Quick and fun. Thanks!
Thanks!
No ants on the sumac, it's a great day lol. Sawyer failed, I don't trust plastic generally anyway. I love your foraging content especially because they are in my area also...and of course there is the mutual appreciation of the sacred bacon.
Thanks!
Is there a particular ripeness to wait for? I grew up watching this weed take over my parent’s yard and never thought it was worth anything but kindling!
The redder the better. Good source of vit c, but not right after a rainfall. Nature's wild lemonade.
The more red the better.
I catch myself looking at plants and saying “I think that’s xxxxxx” . The only problem in that is the word “think”. So.......I just leave it alone. It might be different in a dire situation but I really need a class in local area edible stuff. Thanks for the video Walker.👍
That's the best policy. Thanks for watching!
Walker, the old timers called that plant poison sumac. I was always under the impression it was poison, am I wrong, and if so, how do you know it's safe?
That's what I always thought, about that being poison sumac. I'd be interested in the Walker's response! 🤗
Poison sumac has white flowers. Staghorn sumac is an excellent source of vit c, but not right after a rain fall. It is the wild equivalent of lemonade.
Poison Sumac is a totally different plant. It is a vine similar to Poison Ivy. Google it.
It's a different plant. Kate L is spot on about Sumac. I think it's a coating on the red clusters which makes the lemonade like drink hence also why it's best foraged not just after heavy rain.
White Sumac is poisonous , this type is fine, excellent source of vitamin C. We used to make ‘Mountain Lemonade” from the tiny red berries.
Thanks for the video!
How do you tell the poisonous sumac from the non-poisonous
Poison sumac has white flowers.
Kate L is correct. Different flowers.
Love sumac tea .yup mine did the same thing and lol I carry a 2 liter soda bottle rolled up
Thanks for watching!
Excellent 👍🏻
Thanks!
I've had many of the bags fail on me. They really need to do something diffrent. It seems that they always fail around the neck.
Yup, good filter but the bags suck. Throw away those bags and get yourself a Platypus Big Zip with a quick disconnect hose. Holds more, easier to fill, works much better in a gravity feed setup.
Thanks how this one failed.
Sawyer squeeze will give you a stronger grip than a married man if you catch my drift 😳
Now that's messed up,but come on guys how do you man up!
I got one of those water filters but I can’t find it anywhere and it was never opened and I really don’t want to buy another one because they are a little pricey
You sound a lot like me
Good thing you had a backup bottle. I’ve never heard of this tea, does it have a strong flavor, or a mild one?
Like lemonade. It's good!
He had a plastic bag containing them :P
@@Raberuji Use them for everything. Underrated gear item.
Well that was interesting I've never heard of that stuff before! Good video brother I hope you have an awesome day thumbs up~John
Thanks!
a sock, a t-shirt. When you have to drink....
Thanks for watching!
You know didn't come back birds in engine
Two is one and one is none.
Very very true!
What happened to the Walker?
He died
Walker, thanks for sharing, I always thought those were called poison sumac , and avoided them , atb brother 👍
The poison sumac has white flowers.
@@katydidnt3906 thank you for the clarification, now I can't be mistaken , I have the red ones all over , but even avoided coming near them , atb 👍
Ditch that Sawyer and get a Katadyn Be Free. So much easier to use.
