It's unfortunate that this song never made it to the studio. I think that it's one of the best versions. Lost gems like these were only experienced live. Thanks for sharing!
This clip make the hair stan up on the back of my neck and gives me goose bumps. I feel so fortunate not only to have lived on the earth as the seam time as Maestro Dexter, but to have seen him twice during this period when he came back to the states and made the Homecoming double album. This shit swings so hard with so little effort. Burning with total efficeincy. Thanx for the posting!
Starting off with a classic: on green dolphin street! Dex is the greatest tenor I've heard! He makes simple sound uniquely his, and brings any piece to life! We love you Dex! You are a landmark in history, and a milestone in jazz!
Well, anyway, there I was reading "On the Road" again and saw Dexter Gordon's name mentioned but this time I had also noticed an ad in the Boston Globe that Dexter was back from Europe and going to play at Paul's Mall, a small Boston Club. On one of the coldest nights I've ever gone out in, I took my two younger brothers to the club. The band was this band, and we watched a show that would be something that none of us will ever forget as long as we live. You never know.
YOU SAW HIM during the recording of "Dextor Gordon - Homecoming, Live At The Village Vanguard" ??? DAM IT! I have that double cd. wish I could have seen it. Too young Though Its My Favorite Spot in NYC... Did you take picutres? hidden? WOW
I was at this show. I think I was 17. One of those musical experiences that change you life.

Happy Birthday, Dexter - still celebrating so many great performances
Thank you for this jewel!! Absolutly gorgeous from the very ancestor of Coltrane!!
it was recorded, however, and quite awesomely, and for that i am greatly greatful
Man when they hit the turnaround towards the end of Dexter's solo, it's like I'm in church!
Killin'!
Back in the days, I was at Paul's Mall every night. Great spot.
what beautiful Art! Loved to have been there long ago. Great video Mati377 !
Fantastic!! long tall Dexter.
I was just thinking the same thing...man, I love Dexter's tone.
I thank you for making alive my man DG ...
Dexter had the best sound of all the tenors-not a note wasted-also wrote some great tunes.
"Stranger In Paradise" @ 4:05 or so! He was the great at quoting other tunes in his solos. What a cool guy!
Grande saxofonista, muito boa a execução.
Love Dexter! What else can anyone say......
That incredible voice has gotta have something to do with his legendary tone!
ojo por ojo ....acorde por acorde! magnifico,el aterrizado Dexter globedon. wall mapu
Where’s the rest of tune...??? 😩 Beautiful solo by Rufus Reid, Dexter trading with Eddie Gladden, and the hugely epic Coda.

... wish the camera guys had thought to adjust that angle on Dex where he's completely blocking Rufus Reid. Jeez, Rufus is the invisible man!
Dang. Dexter had a deep voice.
