What can I say that has'nt already been said. We have these recordings of great music as our keepsake so we should be thankful for that, and we are also a live to listen to them. Thank you Dexter.
hey Jan ...AS A MUCH OLDER MAN . 82 in a couple of months this song which brings back my army days in 59 still gives me the chills and ive played it hundreds of times in every venue one can think of . great song . bobby g............
Mon ténor préféré , pour son approche mélodique et son sens du mouvement sur les chords changes , constamment en équilibre sur des croches et toujours en place !
I LOVE Dex's playing, always have. I just wish he'd taken better care of his health. He would have probably lived ten or fifteen years longer and given us that much more pleasure ( I'm selfish ) .
highly doubt that. as he quit playing some 7 years prior to his death, although he was able too. Prior to shooting the Round Midnight film dexter has already abandoned playing sax, and u can clearly hear that in the film score.
cduggan7070: You mean YOU love Dexter's better than YOU do 'Trane's. Nothing is wrong with one's personal taste and preference - based on one's prior knowledge and exposure/experience pertaining thereto. King Curtis did two different rhythmic versions of the tune. One is very "up-tempoish"; the other, a ballad from a tenor saxophonist who was both earthy and soulfully smooth.
Easily the best version of Misty there is... absolutely beautiful!
Folks! As and "old" man (73yrs) today 4.jun 2016! This music Sound so new, fresh and GREAT as it did in CPH in 1965!
Jan Gunnar Olsen dexters the man!
The one and only, the endless master of the tenor saxophone, the musical giant... Never forgotten.
The late 40's , 50's , 60's and 70's the golden age of cool jazz.
Might as well be the whole 20th Cen
Just the best. I heard it when I was a young lady. I still fall in love like a teen when I listen to his notes.
It's tracks like these that make me remember why I fell in love with the tenor sax.
Those were the days ( I was there) Montmartre in CPH 1965! Dexter with Kenny Drew, NIels Henning and Alex Riel. Great music!
u lucky u
liar
I could listen to Dexter all day long. No one improvises like him...
If DExter ever missed a change, I haven't heard it. Beautiful

I saw him at Jazz Showcase in Chicago early 80s. He holds his saxophone level and bowed everytime finish the play.
I was there !!
Another all time favorite.

Dexter est si naturel dans son jeu, impossible de ne pas aimer!
Beautiful ballad. Doesn't even feel 15 minutes long.

Ultimate cool fellow.!!!
Erroll Garner, Charlie Parker, et, pourquoi pas, Dexter Gordon. Epoque malheureusement révolue...
Dexter Gordon is pretty mellow
you clearly dont know him well round. he could be hot as a vulcano and thrilling as a running train
@@MrSeanma How presumptuous of you to assume what I know or not
0:37 A phrase from his own take on The Shadow of Your Smile.
'Happiness is a nice wet R*** reed.'

The pianist is superb, almost as good as the genious composer of Misty.

i'm guessing his version of Misty is better than Coltranes coz mayB coltrane didn't cover Misty...:)
I want to talk about you changes misty changes John Cotrane
Who is number one? Coltrane? Gordon? A difficult dilemma ...
They are 11. One & One. DIG?
